Thanks for this video. Yes, i stopped collecting for years while I was raising my boys. I'm now in my 40s and back into it. For a while I was feeling like dolls were mainly for kids and I was too old for collecting, but I got over that. I really do enjoy dolls, they truely are therapeutic, and I don't care what others think anymore.

BROKE IT DOWN! I started collecting 4 years ago by accident as coming into the doll community from my daughters while we were relaxing on vacation in Maui. I thought the photos were amazing! Taking it to another level, I was dealing with massive stress at work and needed a venting outlet and this was very therapeutic for me which turned into a hobby that I love to this day! This has kept me calm, humble and very blessed with my dolly universe of friends!

@BrokenDollyTV3 жыл бұрын
Clearly she is not aware of the scale of the doll community... so many adults who have been collecting since childhood and never stopped. Nothing wrong with it. That's like saying only mentally challenged men play video games as adults. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 grown ups are allowed to have fun too. We just forget to admit to young folks how much we stop ourselves from having a good time because of the fear of what other adults may think of us. But the truth is, Many adults admire those of us bold and confident enough to do our own thing. Stay fearless.

this is why I'm somewhat of a closeted doll collector the only time I felt ok being opened about it was when my grandmother was alive because she was a doll collector as well even more than I was. I was more of an accessory and fashion collector but I do have dolls that are like family to me.

I notice people can be really judgemental when they don't understand something or it's unfamiliar and unusual. I stopped telling others around me about my doll collection because they didn't and still don't get it. I realised that it's my money, I don't need anyone's approval on how to enjoy that money. It's not my mission to convinced them my hobby or passion for doll collecting isn't abnormal. Going out and gossiping, getting hammered and being skint isn't my bag. When I wake up the next morning my dolls are still there, that bottle for them however, remains empty. It's true, physical items don't make a person whole, but it can give comfort bringing happiness to said person. And if these people want to laugh or mock others who collect unusual things, says more about them than the collector. 💯

Good tips. I think the main thing is to be calmly assertive. If people see that you seem otherwise “normal”, and you’re not trying to hide anything, they will likely move on. Also, do be honest with yourself if it is indeed turning into hoarding or becoming an addiction.

4:52 Now, I don't want my main living spaces to have dolls, I want a designated spot , like a refuge, a quiet place to enjoy & admire them. Then I can bring people there who enjoy them too, but not get pushback from the other type who may be visiting. 👍 But, to each their own, I would never insult someone in their own home, especially someone I'm fond of. *edit* You're so inspiring! Good advice about curating one's collection. I have a diverse doll collection and it really doesn't have a theme but what I do to keep the hoard under control is only keep what I can display. So when the hoard grows too big, I donate, sell, or give away some of the dolls.

Thank you for the video! This is something I've encountered too, to some extent, which is why I tend to create spaces for my doll collection downstairs in my home office, where casual visitors won't ask so many questions. But speaking of questions 😊 May I ask about your two Asian male dolls (they're standing to either side of the Korean lady at 15:40): the man in the white robe with his arms crossed in front of him, and the older gentleman with the topknot and facial hair? I've never seen these before. Are they available in the U.S. at all? They're so expressive, I love them.

😁 I am so blessed to have wonderful dolly friends all over the world. This community and hobby reminds me we are all human and can relate to one another in some way. I appreciate every time someone tells me they are inspired to spend time with their dollies. The best thing about personalizing our dolls, no matter how small of a tweak we make... maybe an ear piercing, maybe an outfit change, or a new hairdo... those personal touches open our minds to be in a creative zone. Imagination and creativity is essential to be productive as adults. We get burned out easier when we don't stop to "play" and take time to do what makes us individually happy.

I have 2 1:1 dolls, they're 5'5" 75lbs and everything costs about half as much as 1/6 stuff lol. It's nice coming home to these beautiful customizable sculptures every day. I feel like my family would understand. MS and the medication have disqualified me from a romantic relationship but I still admire the inherent beauty of the female figure. Just got a looks gtd91 curvy barbie because tbleague doesn't make AA bodies or sculpts.

Or you can pause the Barbie on the elephant! I've been an active doll collector since I was 10 years old. There was a dry spell that we went through for I want to say 5 to 10 years where Barbie was the only full size fashion doll that was available in the mass markets. And she was kind of on a downwind in my opinion for a while, with all the amazing fashion dolls coming out right now she seems like she's climbing out. But that being said I believe my collection has grown a lot since the LOL OMG fashion dolls came out. And has since become a little bit unorganized. 😬 There was a time that I was strictly only collecting coleco cabbage patch kids. That was my focus but it took over! I don't know how to have restrictions. But it's always been fun for me

😎 whatever works for you is the way to go! I think we all go thru spells where our collection becomes out of control or just a hot mess. 🤣 then we get spare time and little by little bring order to the hobby. Personally I always collected the doll I wanted and left the others alone and I had all races of what was made in the 80s barbie (and my black friends marked up the ones that were or thought were Asian) and one stole my collection because her mother couldn’t afford them and she was not behaving enough to grow her own collection-her mom stopped buying them for her entirely after she stole mine by the way- but now I have older ones more than my childhood collection and select new ones.

Good questions... I don't know if people get upset about the diversity in my collection... never directly except once along time ago when a viewer insisted I was racist AGAINST white barbie cuz I didn't like Millie. 🤣🤣🤣 Nonetheless, I'm sure this happens to other people because I have heard of it. And I think its total nonsense. Dolls are art, they represent fantasy or reality. By that logic, men should only collect male figures and women should only have females figures... right? People get worked up over senseless issues these days. I think people should be free to collect whatever they like. Sometimes I have dolls that are supposed to be one race and I change their race to fit the story I have for the characters. Art is freedom. Anyone who concerns themselves with what other grown people do with their money need to find a hobby. As for teens or kids, they get a slight pass because they usually don't know any better. When they are older, they usually realize how silly that kind of thinking is.

I don't personally collect barbie but my sister (she's not a collector) got me a Barbie doll and because it's from her I kept it because she cared enough to gift me something. Still not a barbie Barbie person tho .

I totally get it, sometimes it's the sentimental attachment that makes something special. I have a barbie from the 90's era, which i would never have added to my collection because i have no interest in those dolls. but my daughter's favorite teacher gave it to us as a gift, so she is special.

Buenos dias, Gypsy- I am an adult doll collector of 40 years. I know why we collector dolls. It is fun and relaxing. It is not weird. It is not strange. I am also a believer and remember reading Jesus saying "Suffer not the little children to come unto me". This is the child in me remembering those best times of my life. This is how I share myself with Jesus. My dolls are all Catholic like me, so in my 15 doll houses you will see lots of Catholic "things" such as statues, crosses, Bibles, etc. Peope collect what they want to collect. It makes you happy, so be happy. I am a doll crafter- I collect dolls, create doll houses, make doll furniture, make doll clothes etc. I started my collection for my 46 year old daughter when she was a little girl. She was a tom boy and did not care about the dollies. I care. Just enjoy your life!!! Also, I limit myself to 100 dolls and sometimes share with friends, so they have their "mini-me".

You're one of the lucky ones who people accept exactly how you are. Its a blessing. I wish more people had that experience.

They made Barbie extremely sexualized when they first made her, I agree

Parents complaining for so long is why barbie looks like she does today. Remember how even in the 90s the bodies were very boobilicious? 🤣 that didn't stop people from buying them for their kids. So when people say dolls are for kids, I just look at them like they need to read more. 😏

No their gonna judge you no matter what size your collection is and guess what its their damn issue and insecurity.
@BrokenDollyTV3 жыл бұрын
Anytime someone judges others, regardless of what for, its definitely a reflection of their own insecurities. I think this plays a role in why they attack people who overtly collect... it bothers them to know someone can be cold enough to admit they love doing something very unusual. That takes a level of confidence and bravery. And those who judge others are normally lacking that trait.
