Lorelai was so cool and wise and mature in these early seasons. I just watched the whole show and by the last season Lorelai was like a crackhead

It’s understandable Rory didn’t want to talk about it as she had to process it

Dean was awful. Pressuring someone to say "I love you" and dumping them for not saying it is emotional manipulation.

he broke up with her because he thought she didnt love him, that is readinable.

@@TheSmallsfordnah. No. Dean is Rory’s first boyfriend. In what world is it okay to expect her to love him 3 months into it when she’s never even dated before?!
@TheSmallsford5 ай бұрын
@@amywonderland9297 i’m not saying that she was expected to love him 3 months in, even tho she did. I’m saying he broke up with her because he didn’t see the point in going on because rory literally said nothing so he thought she didnt live him.

Dean did Not break up with Rory people. When he said, "I Love You", she froze and replied, "Okay.". At that moment she panicked and they argued, then he took her home. Rory saw that her Mom couldn't make a commitment with Max and followed that example. She was scared, shocked and taken a back at everything. While Dean did expected the feelings to be returned, he could have handled it with a little more tact and tenderness.

@@m.layfette6249 he did break up with her tho. yes even tho his reason for breaking up with her is justifiable he couldve been more understanding

i feel like people forget that Dean is 16 or 17 and his values are different, he is a family man, and he really wanted a serious relationship with Rory. I don't think he ever forced her to say i love you back, but he probably saw that as "oh she just doesnt feel the same way as I do, so why stay in a relationship if we don't want the same things". He couldve def been more understanding but he is literally still a kid, no one was that mature at 16 or 17. By the end of their relationship Dean started to get a sense of how he was reacting wasn't right and always tried to apologize to Rory for example him getting mad about Harvard. I definely think rory wouldve made Dean a better person in the end. I don't think he was awful i think he was just a kid. And I think thats why he married Lindsey at a young age because he wanted that serious family life. I think if Rory and Dean stayed together throughout the show, they would've been fine and rory wouldve been a completely different person, but also kinda unrealistic.

"His values are different" is a blunt way to say it's okay if he's a misogynist. That doesn't change the fact he's manipulative, reactive and potentially violent. He cheated on the wife he married with a different girl on his mind. He hit things in front of Rory and Lindsay, and also yell at them, to the point Paris had to lie because things were escalating so much. And the worst part is... Dean NEVER apologized. Rory ALWAYS had to apologize... for taking care of her future and having plans on her own. I'm sorry, you just don't justify people's actions just by their age.

@@ibetterbearoundyou 1. Dean is not a misogynist. if I think that staying home and taking care of my family is not a bad thing does that make me less of a feminist? Dean never says that women HAVE TO stay home and cook meals for their family. He says that he thinks its nice because his mother used to stay home and cook meals before she started working. And in his eyes, it looked like Rory and Lorelai were bashing on people like his mom. Rory only sticks to one side and Dean offers that there are two sides to the sides and he is right about that. But never does he say that all women should just stay home and care for their families. If anything ur the misogynist one for thinkings its only okay if women just worked and shamed other women who do want to stay home and take care of their families. Or maybe you just skipped that part of the episode where Dean says he doesnt think women have to stay in the kitchen 2. Dean has apologized. When he got mad at Rory for focusing on activities for Harvard instead of spending time with him, yeah it was a dick move. He realizes that too and apologizes to her later saying that he loves the fact she wants to go to Harvard and he doesn't understand why he felt that way. 3. age does have to do with emotional intelligence and that peaks usually when someone is in their 60s, and dean isnt even 1/3 of the way there. And im not saying that just because he was young makes it okay, I'm saying that he acts that way because he is young. And really i was only talking about the breakup in the comment. But no age doesnt justify WHAT he did or HOW he reacts, but it does play a big part on WHY he acts that way. It would be different if he grew up still being an asshole, but in the spin off series, you can tell dean has matured and now he has a new wife with 3 kids and another one on the way. And he is not as angry anymore. But yeah he was terrible for having a bad temper. SO idk maybe go rewatch the show cause i feel like youve missed out on some parts.
@DwynTwoАй бұрын
@@corgisharks Why are you adressing the only thing she didn't mention here? The comment didn't say Dean was a misogynist because he thinks it's great that his mom used to cook, it said that Dean was a misogynist because he was a cheater and a hothead, and now add to that this scene where he throws a temper tantrum just because Rory isn't ready to say "I love you" back yet. How wonderful that we can explain misogyny away with things like "Oh, but he's young" and "Oh but he doesn't mean it like that"; that way, misogyny doesn't exist anymore! Listen, Dean is a wonderful character because of how flawed it is, but let's please not deny blatant sexism when we see it.
