I loved Dean's response saying that for society to get used to seeing men show affection to their sons, it has to be seen more often. I believe that as dedicated listeners of this podcast (particularly male listeners), we should all use this knowledge to practice daily habits showing love, care and empathy where it is safe and acceptable to do so. On another note, I really admire the person running this KZbin channel. You meticulously respond to these comments in such a caring and engaged way to make sure all of our comments can not only be acknowledged but deeply valued! Thank you for setting such a great example for how all podcasts should be run!

Wow wow wow!! I found this so refreshing. As a POC and someone who definitely leans far left, I found this episode to be really groundbreaking. I was definitely uneasy in the conversations about race and policing, but was still able to learn from Dean. Kudos to Jamey on how you challenged him while still meeting him where he was. And thank you Liz and Justin for being amazing allies as the conversation went there. Justin, "Learning in real time"! Ahhhh! I learned and gained a lot. The "how" of this episode from all 5 was the key for me. Very good to address things and know these conversations can happen without dissolving into camps and anger. I feel for Dean feeling the pressure to take care of his family. His softening there at the end... he can be assured that when he teared up, it is just love and appreciation and caring I for one feel, and his man enough is in full capacity. Jamey, working from the inside out! Yes! Liz, I found that your presence, as the 4 men had good consultation this time was a great way that it worked out. So much good stuff! Many happy thank yous.

As many have stated, this conversation was going to be a challenging one to listen to. Hell, I can only imagine what it was like having it. But the important thing is that both "sides" were willing to come to the table and discuss ideas, knowing that it could be uncomfortable in doing so. I felt that Dean was authentic here, even in what I didn't necessarily agree with. I think a huge part of this is just the fact that closing out people with differing opinions won't get us anywhere. If we patronize them and act like everything we say and believe is right, how do we ever elevate the conversation for one another? Appreciate the episode, ME team!

Yay Jamie - you attempted to keep Dean Cain honest. Just my opinion, I think Dean, like everyone else, has issues. He seems angry and said multiple times that he is taking care of his parents and many other people; seems to need other people or himself to think he is a good person. Sincerely, don’t want to be judge mental - just the feeling I got from him.

He didn't sound angry, he sounded tired! And as someone who can relate completely because I am legal guardian to my six God children plus taking care of my 75 year old mother it's exhausting at times. And you're trying to do the right thing by your kids. I think this is what he is point was. That as a parent/caregiver, you think of everyone else first and then yourself. It was fantastic that Christopher told him to take care of himself after he got his parents settled in Vegas! 🥰🥰

Forgive me if I am missing context because I am commenting as this is coming up while I’m watching the video. At 38:21 where Dean says “it’s more training” I was reminded of a social work webinar I just watched where a black community organizer said, “why do you need special training not to kill black folks when you don’t need it to not kill white folks?” That really changed the way I thought about that conversation, and maybe it could change someone else’s mind too.❤

Amazing episode! I love the way jamey introduced a "controversial" topic nowadays. It was very exciting for me because its always a little, maybe scary or hard, bring something that you know its controversial, especially if you know that the other person has different opinions, but it was amazing listen and learn with this, its difficult to do this currently. Dean seems an amazing men, with integrity, i like the way he express his opinions (i like his friend too, i enjoy the surprise guest, it was organic, hahaha). For me it was interesting feel all my assumptions about things i saw in the episode. I dont know any of you, but i was like: oh, here we go again, he is telling this to not be uncomfortable blah blah blah. Its curious seeing my own biases. This was amazing, really really amazing. Also, it was very interesting seeing that, at the end of the day, you can dissect things in two basic levels: individual and political/social. For example, i see cancel culture as a social movement that tries to eliminate something because its "bad". I dont see, like Liz, cancel culture as a only an individual decision that each person make (for example, i decide not consume something because doesnt match my values). I see that now cancel culture its something bigger than individuals, and in some ways, the power that has it could be good but its complicated and dangerous. Its always the same question: who decides what its good or bad? Who decides that this have to be canceled? Black people? White people? Companies? 100 persons? 200? Why this is not progress? What lens you are using to approach this? Its complicated and an interesting topic. For me, it doesnt exists the perfect society or politics, because humans are imperfect and we always have diifferent interests. I think the magic happens when all of us have enought to live well and free, and listen to each other to appreaciate our needs (and this is increible difficult to approach, but we have to try i think without damaging others). Thank you for this amazing conversation! I love your podcast and the amazing and safe space you have created to speak about things that currently are so polarized. Thank you for the subtitles and for everything beautiful people! I love you all! Lots love!

It would be nice if you had more guests like this who didnt necessarily have the same mindset and views as all three of you. Hearing from people that agree with you is fine but you'll never change anything or move further than your own thoughts and opinions if you're not challenged to hear them and take them into consideration. It would also be nice if his answers weren't constantly interrupted so maybe he got to finish a full thought. I applaud Dean for knowing he was coming onto a platform where he would be the only one with a majority of his opinions and viewpoints and still wanting to have an open conversation even if he would be the one challenged the most.

@@WeAreManEnough "Treason to whiteness is loyalty to humanity". - Noel Ignatiev Though I'm not thee original author of the comment, and only responded in affirmation of a shared sentiment…I feel compelled to respond. Though I appreciated Mr. Cain's contribution to the conversation about being "Man Enough", with regards to sharing love between fathers and sons…the conversation went sideways when it came to acknowledging Systemic Racism and it's adverse impact on Black Lives. It seems that whenever issues that adversely impact Black Lives is broached on public platforms, there's an attitude of "let's see what thee other side has to contribute to this discussion". It's dehumanizing to Black Lives, when crimes against Black Bodied People are reduced to fodder for intellectual debate and discourse. Sure, anyone can say or agree that "Black Lives Matter", but does their health, happiness, and well-being matter just as much? I'm astonished, appalled, and disgusted that as a society we can witness the murder or ritual sacrifice of unarmed human beings, and because of thee amount of melanin in their skin…rather than decrying such acts as crimes against humanity we say, "Wait, let's talk about this"? But I guess that makes sense, when deep down many only see Black Folks as 3/5ths human anyway. I'm grateful to Man Enough, for their contribution to the discourse of healing Masculinity. What's become very clear to me, is that there is a long way yet to go with being "Man Enough" to draw a hard line on discussions of Racial Equity and Justice. In this discussion, I watched Jamey squirm in his attempts at seeking or establishing a diplomatic common ground. I appreciated Liz, as she had enough presence of mind to critically question how she did or didn't show up as an ally. And alas Justin, did what one could expect from a White Man. He spent a significant amount of time making excuses for his friend's ignorance, vs holding him accountable in a skillful way. And Mr. Cain literally manifesting the "one black friend trope" was the peak of cringe 😬🤢🤮 Sure, this podcast and forum does a great job of answering the question about what it means to be "Man Enough". But when are we going to address the proverbial shadow of thee elephant in the room…."Are Black People Human Enough"?
