We have some of the finest craftsmen in the business. They can turn on the CNC machine faster and better than anyone else!

In fact, the CNC only does the ruff they still have to do the fine sanding, painting, drying the wood correctly, installing the frets and sanding them correctly. Install the nuts perfectly... Then pleck machine for fine tuning if they have one...

14:21 - works on the guitars just after they've been painted, but doesn't take his damn ring off to avoid scratching them

Exactly my thought.. Working in a cutsom shop with no real knowledge of how to set up a truss rod ready for fret level filing (you need a Notched straight edge that avoids the frets so you can see if the neck is level before you level frets and crowning) and he knocks his ring on a finished guitar at 14:42

Sorry to break it to you guys but all the major companies use CNC machines now. The necks and the finish work gets the most "by hand" work these days. CNC definitely makes guitar making more consistent.

I fell in love with a Dean Back in 1974 or 75....it was the best playing guitar I’ve ever played. And I didn’t buy it. Why I do not know. It was so grand an experience. The pick-ups screamed and the neck was perfect for my smaller hands. Ebony frets only... hey I love Leslie West...Mountain man I saw them in 1970... “Mississippi Queen...” no rosewood fret boards. And only Ash or flame top maple.

Hey guys! You create the best guitars in the world! I bought a black Dean Razor Back. Wow...... it’s fantastic. I love playing it, and I love it more when the audience sees it. The compliments that guitar gets! It’s all the time. I have rack loads of Gibson’s and I’m sorry, they have to go, bar two. The rest will all be replaced with various Dean guitars. It’s the audience choice, and it’s all about them. What fantastic workmanship. What fantastic designs. These guitars are different which is what we need to stand out. If you are reading this comment, for God’s sake consider getting one, you’ll be glad you did. They are a dream to play and will do wonders for your image. Thanks, an, good luck!

I've played several deans and they play awesome, but I've always been on the fence about buying one. After watching this, I've decided to make the purchase. My problem with them has always been the outlandish paint jobs and the 3×3 tuners on that boomerang head stock. The D.M. models I really like but just plain black for me. Dean has came along way, and for my opinion no human hand can be as consistent and precise as a C&C machine. The problem with using them, is like the guy said a decimal in the wrong place or a bit breaks, then it becomes a quality control issue do they scrap it, if it can't be repaired, or let it go thrue. I choose to believe dean does the right thing.

People are usually turned off from the term "Import" when it comes to guitars because 7/10 they're crappy quality, but Deans, Import or Domestic, are fabulous guitars, although my MIK Razorback needs a better setup, my friend set that shit up for .13-.68's but I can't play thick strings, I prefer hybrid .9-.50s, but the tension with those on my Razorback is too damn high, even in C# lol
@slaughtered777
@slaughtered777 10 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! People do get turned off by the China sticker (which I removed after about a year lol). Thought I think you went a bit overboard with a .13 - .68, those must be some fat stings! My .09 - . 42 setup has been constant (on D standard) since day 1, and never disappoints :) I'm pretty sure the materials used in the China made Deans are perfectly legit, just the assembly took place there.

Finally found my Guitar of choice..and sticking to Mainly DEAN now perfect rockin'name.. *Stealth Thoroughbred* exactly what it is..does..sounds like.. already have the basic DIME ML.. Just Bought mine..and hands down one of the BEST GUITARS I EVER PLAYED.. been playing for over 35 Years..teaching Guitar Drums Bass and FINALLY..this is my Guitar of choice price wise..? well worth it..under a grand for what this can do The Most Versatile Guitar in my opinion..for ME.. Played the classic Gibson Les Pauls..Fenders..you name it.. oh look another guy playing same old Gibson or Fender and such..super Guitars for sure but if you want to stand out from the crowd and be different like I always have..this is the Guitar for you my fave body shape I have to say is the Gibson Les Paul..so there ya go which are still way over priced..especially since they are using cheaper wood since around..2012..EPA got a hold of them..well that's another story no disrespect to the man Les Paul..but todays Gibsons are seriously Over Priced I think its because its really the only Guitar that when you do resell you can get most your $$ back..and they know it..more about the name than Guitar we all have our choices and sounds and opinions.. sick of the same boring look.. step out and be original..this is the one for you.. for me..its my sound and now MY Guitar Brand I can go from Heavy stuff like Slipknot..who I just saw..classic Corey kicking out that douche Toronto have it on video Ozzy..CRUE..Metallica..Maiden..GnR..System of a Down..PANTERA..of course..Slayer..on and on to classic rock..Zep..Hendirx..Montrose..VH..Uncle Ted Nugent..on and on I love the Active EMG's 81_85's.. and will be getting another.. the neck pick up position is so rich with feel and waves of wylde sounds of course depends what ya play through..tried many different ways yes that's ME with my Heroes Motley Crue and The BLS FAMILY..Brother Zakk Wylde.. Dreams do come true.. still would like to try the Wylde Audio Guitar line.. was not even set up and stays in tune incredible feel and sound.. love the satin finish..so no sweaty slip neck on back for me as soon as I grab hold of a Guitar I can tell right away if its for me get this one.. special Thanks to TUNDRA MUSIC here in Hamilton,Ontario less than a grand for this..loaded with my specs Love it getting another for different tunings.. Dean makes the highest quality USA guitars I have ever come across. I cant believe how in the last 16 years of awful Gibsons, more people haven't come across how good these guitars are. Especially for the money. I have the usa models, a dime sledge, a namm show thoroughbred, and a dean hardtail. All 3 guitars vastly surpase their rivals. I have owned and sold several Les paul customs and standards. The only guitar that even comes close to deans quality is my 91 lp custom, but dean still destroys its. I have a korean dean ml that is exceptional as well. I have even had a few chinese MLs and they were great players too, again vastly superior to any epiphone. Get your wings today.

to me at this point with the global economy and how things are done. regardless where the guitar is built. they are pretty much all using the same process. what makes a great guitar, different than a cheap one. is in the fretwork, and setup. sure hardware etc matters. but if you have a guitar with a proper setup. its gonna be a joy to play. all the big boys use CNC machines regardless of country. rock on.

I've just purchased a Dean USA custom made guitar for delivery to the UK. I've bought Gibson custom shops guitars as well as Fender custom shops guitars; I won't enter the debate about who makes the better quality because I feel that can be down to an individuals interpretation, but I know one thing, I'm like a kid waiting for Christmas in anticipation for my Dean custom shop. I have never felt like that about any other guitar. Yeah I now Japanese made ESP's have a good rep as do Gretsch, but for me, and yes they have their issues sometimes, American guitars just have more soul.

From what i understand if you order the artist model, there is no room for alterations. If you do a custom build starting with a stealth body, you can build anything you like and dress the frets however you like. You can play with custom form on Dean's site. The dean usa guitars are out of this world. I buy one every time i have the chance, they are gonna be worth a ton in the future. Cheers!

Very first scene in the "custom shop" tour is......? A C&C machine! :) Seriously... I don;t think big companies even know what the word "custom" means anymore... May I suggest to anyone watching this video to check out "Crimson guitars" to see what an actual CUSTOM shop is...
@peterp1126
@peterp1126 8 жыл бұрын
+Marvio Botticelli custom means custom - not serial production.Custom means that you have your own idea to make your own guitar,original shapes in it etc.Your guitar is original,different and you can use CNC machine for that - its very accurate.Custom dont means Hand-build
@marviosantos
@marviosantos 8 жыл бұрын
Peter P Agreed, but do you think Dean is doing that? Call over there and ask them if they could make you an one off guitar in the shape of a fish, with chrome finish, 9 strings, etc.. etc... They would probably even say, yes, for a couple of million dollars, sure! :) These companies are just not setup for a real custom instrument. Custom to them is the customer picking what kind of woods and pickups, maybe pre-dertermined neck/body shapes. But stray from whatever your "choices" are and they'll throw their hand in the air
@Diggerdog2nd
@Diggerdog2nd 8 жыл бұрын
Your right but that's as custom as a big company gets. For a rock star that they want to see playing one of there guitars they'll do something crazy but for you & me we have to go with a small company. I have a old friend that has built a lot of guitars for people & told me I can have whatever body shape , neck, custom pickup I want. I like it better that way I think. I own 4 Deans & like what they do anyways so me personally I don't want something different from them.

Say what you wish, I'm with the OP, and I understand fully what CNC ( and it is " CNC " btw ) is and isn't capable of, what they can and can't do. I've worked with and on them for many years. What they can do, for example, is deliver to you a basic, and depending on the quality of tools and bits attached, scheduled maintenance adherence, etc., a decent cookie cutter guitar. What they'll never do, for example, is create, or even help with at any stage, a Stradivarius. Give me the skilled human artisan over a machine any day. I'll gladly pay the difference...

i think the machines are needed to keep the duration down; it's fairly impossible that a worker can do such a complex body like a ml alone in less time and without mistakes, the wood is expensive and if you fucked it up you can throw it away - and every worker get's his hands on the guitar to make them even better (also they dont showed how the paint the guitars) and not everybody can afford a guitar for 7000 $ which is only handmade - DEAN GUITARS RULES !!!

It outside the shop. They have another company paint them. They are high quality finishes. One of our community members has had 8 built in the past couple years, and they are amazing.

custom means unique and what you want.. Not handmade. They never said they were hand crafted and hand made guitars.
