I absoutely love his celebrity roasts and wish I had all of them on DVD.

I've loved Dean my whole life; but mostly for his music (live is the best)... I also knew him as a "film actor" and a person who had a "variety show" (available from Time-Life, and their subsidiaries). I never paid it any mind until I found "The Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts." It was then that I realized the spectacular nature of Dean. Well done video, Heath!

OMG, just watched this, and if you weren’t my hero before, you are now throwing in a Dino episode into the mix. I am obsessed with variety shows and celebrity guests.

So what other variety shows are on DVD that might appeal to me and other viewers watching this video? The Paul Lynde Halloween Special just got re-released on DVD last week, so I need to pick that up. Shout Factory is releasing Rowan and Martin's Laugh In, too.
@ericgrigs6 жыл бұрын
You will love the Paul Lynde Halloween Special! Campy fun and then KISS shows up for a musical number. Still waiting for seasons 4 & 5 of the Muppet Show. Laugh In is good but can be uneven, I find certain seasons are better than others. But Sonny & Cher and The Captain & Tennille had ones and there are some great one off ‘specials’ through the 80s but you’re right so many are tough to track down and will probably eventually be lost because the music rights are too complicated to bring to mass market now.

Hey pallie, likes Heath, how remarkably refreshin' to find 'nother dude joinin' the Dino-movement. Never was, never will be anyone as cool as the King of Cool...oh, to return to the days when Dino walked the earth. Thanks for your energetic efforts in bringin' more pallies into the Dino-fold. Likes thrilled your potently persevered 'til you got the Dino-discs that you desired. Know that your vid has been put up this very Dino-day at our humble little ilovedinomartin conclave.

Man it was a long night last night, waking up and watching this brought a smile to my face, and that was before having coffee. I've never watched the Dean Martin Variety hour, but strangely I do remember those early 2000's infomericals for the mail-aways. The change up was nice, you really did put a lot of work into it. I'm going to steal the Jimmy Stewart joke.

Thanks, brother. I’m glad it made you smile. I wanted to talk about my quest to collect these DVDs in a fun way instead of just showing them to the camera. Hopefully people who have no interest in Dean Martin or the variety show will still enjoy this. I love taking the channel into unexpected directions and keeping things varied.

Any day Heath. I've enjoyed your impressions these last few weeks this was a clever way of putting them all together. Somedays the quests can be a pain (for me it was the summer of Masterworks), but it really adds to the hunt and you appreciate the treasure a little more if it was hard to get.
@CerealAtMidnight6 жыл бұрын
The quest is definitely a huge part of the experience. Did you ever get your Masterworks mess worked out?
@justmason76726 жыл бұрын
I did get they ebay part sorted out yet. I had the same problem with you for volume 1 at chapters.ca where I ordered it with a a 1-3 weeks delivery time and after about a month they informed me they were unable to find it. I have them all now extra volume 11. Side note too I ended up getting the "Rarities volume" with Dr. Doom this week. It's hard to find.
@CerealAtMidnight6 жыл бұрын
Nice on the rarities volume! I never got too deep into Masterworks, though I do have a few of the Barnes and Noble softcovers. I should list them on eBay as hardcovers and then deny it when someone gets upset. But really, those are beautiful collected editions that not only hold their value, but increase, from what I’ve seen.

@Romeroland6 жыл бұрын
all of that in less than a month?! I know the feeling of the hunt, hunting them and getting them. Great vid again.
@CerealAtMidnight6 жыл бұрын
Yes indeed! And almost all of it came in huge lots, so I didn't have to work very hard to piece it together, either. Two eBay lots got the entire 29 disc set of the mail-away DVDs, and then the four Time Life Volumes were easy to snag after that. I agree, the quest is a huge part of the thrill!

Cool stuff. So what got you hooked on the Dean Martin Show? We are about the same age and that is a bit before our time. I do remember the comedy roasts from the later 70s, but never saw the Variety Show.
@CerealAtMidnight6 жыл бұрын
Well, my interests lie in pop culture of the past, retro stuff, vintage cool. I was watching Johnny Carson DVDs and Dean Martin was so effortlessly cool in that environment, I just started researching his sixties and seventies work outside of movies and music. That led to the variety show and will eventually lead me to the roasts. Now I’m kind of fascinated with the whole movement.

could you please provide links for the uncut dvds, not the greg harrison presents versions. Thanks!

Sure! Here's the various DVD collections produced by Time Life. The Best of the Dean Martin Show Six Disc set: amzn.to/2DaccZ2 The King of Cool: The Best of the Dean Martin Variety Show Six Disc set: amzn.to/34gYGi1 The Dean Martin Variety Show Uncut Three Disc Set: amzn.to/2Ok4cLz The Dean Martin Christmas Show 1 Disc: amzn.to/2KPsSZU This is everything from the Dean Martin Variety Show that Time Life released on DVD. The first set has several different versions, including a one disc and two disc version, but the six disc version is the way to go. Also, these sets don't take into account the Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts, which are also from Time Life and are equally confusing to collect in their entirety. I've got the full set and will be doing a video down the road. By the way, these are our affiliate links that I've provided, so if you order using these links, we get a small percentage of Amazon credit based on purchases.

Guthy Renker = Items one sees at 3:00 a.m. for purchase on a TV infomercial, and they have to have them... They never knew a person would go to ebay for 2/3 of a set. ;) I know, I know.

From all of the places why Cosco? I'm so used to "I will catch you later" at the end that I felt almost cheated with "bye" :D
@CerealAtMidnight6 жыл бұрын
I have no idea why Costco! It seems really strange that they had the pull for something like that. And yeah, sorry about the "catch you later" missing at the end. It felt weird to me, too, especially when editing. I should have had Jimmy Stewart sign us off. It sort of just ran out of steam and ended. I was like, "well I guess this is done!"

I still buy some VHS tapes, but usually only if they’re movies that are unreleased on DVD or of they are really rare cult or horror movies. I think they’re 50 cents around here.
