Why would anyone believe reliability would fall? Toyota isn't new to hybrid engines. The Prius, like it or not, goes 250-300k miles with ease. The tech isn't new. It's just new in a Tacoma.

willing to wait 2 years+ for a Toyota is exactly how Toyota knows they have the consumers by the balls and can do whatever they want. They also know they can get away with it as the #1 automaker in the world. People putting down deposit for a Toyota then wait a year or more is insane. They can't even meet demands and yet they're introducing like half a dozen new model lines in the next 5 years? They're just trying to saturate the market interest with phantom products so people won't shop other brands while they wait for "production" and consumers are eating up the "wow" factor.

What makes it even more funny is that Nissan has been building trucks here in the US since 1983 (both Titan plus Frontier and even going back to the Hardbody days). Not even Toyota can claim that going back that long. Frontier is still a non-turbo good ole' V6 which honestly is icing on the cake at this point.

@@newwavetheo Nissan started the whole thing with the Datsun 220 in 1959. The 520 thru 720 were so popular that they set up shop here for the Hardbody. I have a 1987 Hardbody KC with 427,000 miles now. Owned it since 1995. Oddly, it has a "J" VIN code which indicates "Japan.." I didn't know they were also built outside the US and brought here. I've been driving Nissan since age 10! I do NOT understand the negative opinions on them. It's like Nissan makes one mistake like the CAR CVT and they are all garbage forever, but Toyota can build Tacoma frames that literally rust in half, and all is forgiven and forgotten, like some high school football jock who can get away with things no one else can. The Nissan trucks have all been die-hard workers. The "million mile Frontier " on the TFL channel is amazing. I paid $2500 for my truck used, with 204,000 miles already on it. I didn't plan to keep it 30 years for sure. But since then, I have not put another $2500 in repairs into it, unless you count tires and other wear stuff. What an insane value. I recently drove it 10 hours to the ocean and back. I feel like I'm getting away with something, driving past repair shops and seeing trucks in there with repairs that cost more than my whole vehicle. I checked out the new Frontier at the dealer. I can't afford it, but it's the only one I would buy or trust at this point. But where is the 6 speed stick? Nissan manuals seem to be a lifetime transmission. A big loss for people like me who NEVER want to replace an expensive automatic.

I don't "need" new everything like most sheeple think they do. 59 years old, and the only new vehicle I ever purchased off a showroom floor was a Honda 200x ATV. $1500 at year end clearance. Agreed, here in Australia a midsize Toyota Hilux pickup 4x4 sells for $71,000 which is $20,000 more before Covid hit. They now sell the fullsize Tundra pickup V6 for $150,000. A Toyota Landcruiser sells for $150,000 also. We are all getting ripped off both here in Australia and America. 😢

My dad owns a 17 Tacoma sport in silver color. He wanted to check out the new taco, so today we went to the local dealership to checkout a silver 4x4 sport with the TRD upgrade package. MSRP was 52k and change, plus a few grand more on some BS add ons from the dealership. My dad just retired, and he happened to really like this new taco, but unfortunately, he cannot afford the new truck at about 55k plus taxes and financing on top of that. He is keeping his 17 taco, either way, his truck has 30k miles. I my self have 17 taco pro, I like the new truck as well. But these damn prices are ridiculous for a mid size truck. But I agree with what you are saying, my next truck or vehicle, might not be a Toyota.

I just traded in my Tacoma for a Ridgeline, I don’t tow or go off-road and I couldn’t be happier I didn’t realize how bad the Tacoma drove until I got into a Ridgeline and it’s about 8k cheaper with the same options as the Tacoma.

I can remember in 1998 purchasing my first Toyota Tacoma from 18K. It was the 4cyl version 4x4 with single cab and two bucket seats. It had a manual transmission. I was young man serving in the Marines and going to College. I loved that little truck. I went on from it to having a family and transitioning to the 4Runner and eventually a Lexus LX. The prices have gotten out of control. A friend of mine was set on getting the new Taco when it came out but the sky hight price drove him to look else wear and ultimately go the Nissan Frontier. Reliability and Quality are huge for Toyota but they need to remember price is equal important. You can't price out the average consumer. They are the loyal base.

I tried to buy a TRD Pro Tacoma from a dealer 50 miles from my home. They scheduled me to come in for a test drive. When I got there, they didn't give me the time of day, wouldn't let me touch the vehicle like it was the only one in the world. When I was obviously not happy with being told I could drive the truck then denied upon arrival the price jumped up with a 5k markup... I left and the next day I bought the new 2017 ZR2. I've never set foot in a Toyota dealer since.

Ford has 2 different V6 turbos coming for the Ranger and you can still get a V8 in the F150 so please stop with the government made them do it excuse. It’s just a management choice. If anyone can afford to do it and pay the penalties it’s Toyota since the taco is hecho in Mexico while all other midsizers are made in the USA. They just decided to put the turbo 4 in everything because it would increase scale and reduce costs.

Like Dodge for example was given credits by Tesla so they could build all those V8 and superchargered models. It’s not a simple “well Ford can do it” issue it’s more complex than that. The EPA is the issue.

The amount of yellow iron in mining to make the cars, copper for wiring, lithium for the batteries, etc made by diesel yellow iron equipment out weigh the “green energy”. Not to mention how do you safely dispose of all those batteries when they are used up? The US already has some of the strictest emissions, environmental regulations. We live in the same big blue planet, we can be as green as we want, the emissions from China and other foreign countries still affect us. Toyota, like most other manufacturers, has required dealers build Taj Mahal facilities that increase overhead that customers pay for 2. Shrinking gross margins from the factory force dealers to find others ways to make profits 3. Too much focus on high tech loaded vehicles that customers are convinced they must have and thus pay for 4. Too many layers of dealership employees add to overhead customers must pay for The only way to force meaningful change is to stop buying these products at these insane price levels. Just say no.

Noticed the local Toyota dealership, the first ever in my city, and one which I have bought several vehicles from are starting to do some remodeling. Seems Toyota wanted the owner to build his dealership to certain specifications which he was not willing to pay for. He sold it, to a conglomerate company with bigger pockets. I am not seeing any more commercials from these local dealerships that were a staple of our community anymore.

Im in Europe and I find the above RRP dealer pricing quite shocking. Here dealers tend to try to shave a little off the RRP or offer sweeteners (free carpets,insurance etc.) to make the sale. When I have bought a new car I do not expect to pay the sticker price. Different culture I suppose.

You Sir have hit the nail RIGHT ON THE HEAD!!!! Try this one for size.... we purchased a NEW 2005 Toyota Tundra from Burnsville Toyota in Burnsville MN in 2005. It is a SR5, V-8 TRD, Double Cab, 4X4. We left General Motors after a lifetime of loyalty. Chevrolet would not fix a defect in a NEW Chevrolet Z71 4X4 so we told them to pound sand and traded for a loss to get our Tundra. We fell in LOVE with our new Toyota, so much we purchased a second one a few years later. Fast forward to the RECALL/REWORK where the NTSB forced Toyota to do for IMPROPERLY coated frames from the factory. The Recall gave Toyota 2 options. One was inspection and spraying the frames, the other is the Frame Replacement. We brought our Tundra in to Burnsville Toyota for the Recall/Rework. They inspected the frame and SPRAYED it rather than replacement as as an option in the NTSB Recall. Shortly after the dealer performed the rework, the coating they sprayed on was coming off with RUST on both the coating and Frame!!! For MANY YEARS we have asked BOTH Burnsville Toyota and Toyota Motors of America to perform the CORRECT Rework and replace the Frame as outlined in the NTSB Recall of our Tundra. For years, BOTH have told us to pound sand!!! They tell us the Rework has been performed and that's all they are going to do. Since the spray coating started to fall off showing rust, we have asked the dealer (same one for all service, repairs & warranty - purchased from them) to inspect the Frame for the rust issue and report on the invoice. It was hit or miss weather they would do it or document it. The LAST TIME we brought our Tundra in was for the routine oil change service. I had noticed not one, but two (2) large RUST HOLES in the Frame of our Tundra. This is EXACTLY what Toyota had to do the RECALL for and why we were asking THEM to REWORK, THEIR DEFECTIVE Rework, and replace the frame. After the Oil Change service, as the Service Writer was walking me to our Tundra, I was looking over the Invoice checking for the frame inspection. They listed the request and the only thing under it for Work Performed was three letters. They were NVP. I asked the Service Writer if the Frame as inspected for the Corrosion issue that caused the RECALL. He informed me that it had in fact been done for us. I asked what they found and as told it should be on the Invoice. When I told him it said "NVP" he said that's No Visual Perforation! It was at this time I, being Disabled, and having to use a Cane to walk, stuffed my Cane tip in one of the holes and said "oh really, what's this". The Service Writer took a look, his eyes got huge and left saying he'd be right back. He returned with the Service Manager. This was like the 3rd (or so) Service Manager to hold this position since they SCREWED-UP our Tundra and performed the WRONG REPAIR/DEFECTIVE WARRANTY REPAIR! He looked at it and asked who wrote it up. The Service Writer said he did. Then he was asked who worked on it. The Service Writer told him, to which he said that Tech is NOT qualified to do a Frame Inspection. The Service Manage left and came back with an updated page for our Invoice indicating rust had been found. WOW..... this is bad, we have been telling them this for many years and now a Service Manager is taking notice! I asked for him to champion a Frame replacement for us with Toyota Motor Company USA. He said he would and then follow up. Weeks went by and nothing so we called. ONCE AGAIN, POUND SAND, they did the Recall/Rework and that's ALL they have to do! A DEFECTIVE Frame from TOYOTA during the manufacture of this Tundra ALONG with the WRONG/DEFECTIVE Rework has left us with a GREATLY DEVALUED and UNSAFE Toyota Tundra! YES, for the KEYBOARD warriors in their Mom's basement that will say I'm a moron for thinking Toyota will do something on a 20 year old Truck I say this, Toyota & Burnsville Toyota BOTH screwed the pooch on this one back when this truck WAS COVERED under the Warranty/Recall. BOTH Toyota & Burnsville Toyota have shirked their responsibility in the DEFECT/issue. BOTH did WRONG and NEED to make it right! BOTH performed DEFECTIVE work! If they performed the correct repair, our 20 year old Tundra with 110,000 ACTUAL miles would be worth what the outward appearance suggests. The truck is in EXCELLENT condition for a 5-10 years old truck, let alone a 20 year old one! Word of mouth.... BEST or WORST advertisement a company can have!!!! NEW FRAME AT N/C Toyota..... you can still make it right and SAFE!!! Happy & SAFE customers is what you want, RIGHT? STILL waiting after all these years Toyota!!!! Do the right thing!!!! A loyal customer shouldn't have to endure this treatment. I live in Canada and my 2014 Highlander required replacement of the lower control arm bushing at just over the 3 yr but still under 60 K kilometres. I was going to be on the hook for the repair, so decided to send a letter to Toyota's president in Tokyo. Result: the repair was done by the dealership at no charge. Nice, but I don't think that most owners have the time to do this to get satisfaction.

I had two Tacos but I decided to get a 2024 Honda Ridgeline Black Edition instead of the new Tacoma. I got it for 1500 under msrp and I am really enjoying it. It drives so much better than the Tacoma and gets better gas mileage. I don't go off road, so it is the perfect truck for me.

This is the most honest video I have seen you release. I would add that you left out one major error Toyota made besides all the ones you mentioned. They rode the "shortage" lie longer than anyone. Ford, GM, Stellantis gave up the lie well over a year ago and produced millions of vehicles. Toyota, the world's largest car manufacturer claimed until just a few months ago they could not get parts when all other manufacturers who are smaller were getting them. We all know about scale. Toyota can scale bigger than anyone, so that proves they lied and rode that lie longer than anyone. For this lie and their greed, they do need to be punished. May you continue being this honest.

I just purchased the 2024 Tundra 1794 and I love it more than my 2020 Ford F150 Limited. Love the cool features on my new Toyota. Yes I paid $78.000 out the door with 100.000 mi warranty and cool running boards…hey I get it, you don’t like V6 twin turbo as much as I do (Ford eco boost is exactly that) but you can’t escape the fact that it’s an amazingly cool truck.

As I write this morning my new 2 month old Limited, I-Force Max Tundra is in the shop with major computer problems. The dealership has no Idea how long it will take to repair? I am now driving around in a Used Dodge Ram Truck that the dealership is letting me use . My 5th Tundra has failed me like none before. I should have done like Untamed and bought a used 2021. It makes me sick to think I have a truck that is no better than the Big 3.

I have recently purchased a 2024 Toyota 4Runner. The main reason for purchasing this is because I know the reliability is there for the next 10 years plus. I do not put much faith in the new four-cylinder turbo. I do not want an engine that is turbo charged. The reliability will not be there no matter what you do more moving parts that wear out faster.

I was planning to get a bigger vehicle and was eyeing a Toyota, but not a fan of their current business model, over-promise + under-deliver. Why make more new models when you can't even pump out the old ones fast enough? Sounds shady to me. Waiting 2 years for a car is insane, imagine the computer industry did that? Pre-order a 2 year old CPU and pay cutting-edge price? This gives them the greenlight to develop products they can't make and force the consumer to hold their breath. Time to stop buying Toyotas. Already lost me. I've been a fan for 20+ years. Had Tundra's, Tacoma's, 4Runners, Lexus'. Converted multiple friends and family to Toyota over the years. But the 2023 was a turning point for me with my last experience. 2023 Tundra was a lemon with electron issues. Kept taking in it, took it to another dealership, reached out to Toyota USA, and they did not help me. Had to go explore new grounds with bitter taste in my mouth, and GMC landed in my driveway. I am now an advocate against Toyota through and through.. I will continue to influence everyone I know from Toyota with my latest experience with Toyotas latest changes.

All these people poo-poo’ing 4 cylinder engines must have forgotten the Tacoma was originally a 4 cylinder. Turbocharging is a bonus of free horsepower and torque. This technology has been around for many years so I don’t understand the fears. The charge air is aftercooled and with electronic engine controls melting pistons is taken out of the equation. This engine looks like a clone of the Supra engine just slightly bigger. My wife has the supra model engine and it’s been flawless in reliability.

This uptick in prices and downturn in reliability has a lot to do with the Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards (CAFE) implemented by the current administration in the US. The automakers may not be banned from selling cars but they could be fined billions if they violate these MPG standards. They pass on their fines and any hasty eco-tech upgrades on to us….thus instead of the bullet-proof 3UR-FE V8…we get a hybrid platform in the Tundra and Sequoia that up’s manufacturing costs and production courtesy of the US government.

One thing that i found kind of disappointing with Toyota these days is its new vehicle supply in 2024. In terms of new inventory, its still too low while the competition seems to have figured out its supply chain issue and double and even quadrupled their supply since 2022. Toyota’s desirable models are still not immediately available in most dealer locations. You have to be placed in a waitlist for months to buy a new Toyota for around MSRP & even paying markups in some dealers while the competition are piling up their supply and offering discounts thousands below MSRP & low APR . I’ve heard so many Toyota loyalists who’ve has left Toyota and ended up buying Mazda, Subaru, Honda etc because these competitors offer immediate availability & attractive incentives.

You are absolutely correct that they could use dealer allocations to reduce or curb overpricing. THere's actually a list out there of dealers that charged over msrp during the pandemic. One thing that you didn't mention which I would have thrown in was Toyota's well-documented production hold backs in order to (presumably) increase scarcity/demand/pricing.

I paid $45,000 for my 2020 trd off road crewmax. Msrp was $50,000. $5000 off was the norm. Thankfully I got it a month before the world changed forever. Looks like I won’t be buying a new truck for many years.

I'm a more traditional Toyota car owner. I started with the 2000 Avalon ($25K) and put 250K miles on it and the car was in excellent running shape afterwards. The next was a 2012 Camry for $22K which I still have and I have a 2018 Camry for $25K. And I am casually looking to replace the 2012 but am in no hurry. The local dealership has not had a great supply of cars for several years and I'm waiting until they have more models on the lot. Most of the models on the lot are high-end Hybrid AWD while I always just buy the cheapest model. The local dealership has been great on service - and they are getting more efficient at it. I don't really get why people spend $50K to $75K for vehicles but they seem to be a lot more common than folks like me who just want to by inexpensive, reliable cars. My local dealer sends me offers every month or so and I just ignore them. My approach to buying is to wander around the lot when I'm there for service. As far as hybrids go, there's a $7,500 tax credit for plug-in hybrids. If Toyota did one of those on the Camry and the cost of the Hybrid system were less than $7,500, I'd take a hard look at it. I'm not a Toyota enthusiast. I just want a boring, reliable car that lasts forever. And that's what I see on the Camry. I've heard that this is the case for the Corolla too.

A 55,000 dollar truck purchased in 2018 would be about 70,000 dollars in 2024. And i would imagine the addition of hybrid technologies has pushed up the manufacturing costs. BLAME THE GOVERNMENT.

I was in the market to pay 75k cash for a car, now I'll just keep driving my old accord. The whole industry is a joke. By the time they make a new Toyota with a 2 year wait, maybe I can buy the same model 3 year old used model for cheaper. Buying new cars is just so dumb right now, might as well get rid of the dealerships, they're selling air at this point.

Im with ya on this. Been a Toyota fan since 2001 when I got my first 1999 Taco. The arrogance of a lot of dealerships and build quality of the newer trucks is disappointing and pushes people away. My 24 and 23 Tundra had a lot of interior rattles as well as the bed would made all kinds of noises on rough roads. The truck did have upsides for sure though. The power and drivability with the 10 speed tranny was nice. We still have our 2022 4runner with no plans of getting rid of it. With the intro of the 24 taco the 4runner is the last of the great toyota trucks. The last truck built to last as you say. If im being honest it's extremely disappointing. The brand is now just like other brands with the new trucks.

My daughter and myself both purchased the last years of the naturally aspirated V6. She bought a 2023 Tacoma TRD Off Road 4x4 and I purchased a 2024 4runner Limited 4wd. We wanted longevity, reliability and simplicity.

That’s part of the reason I liked my 2022 T4R OR-P and why I bought my 2023 Tacoma TRD OR Access Cab. My regret is selling my 4Runner. I’m not going to be able to buy a 2024 4Runner before the 6th Gen. I am most likely going to get a lease return 2023 GX 460 or if Untamed can find me a nice low mileage Land Cruiser Heritage.

The V6 Turbo was only introduced because the EPA is demanding manufacturers increase gas MPG every year. I am really glad I kept my 2014 with the 5.7, best engine ever made in these trucks. I would take a hard pass on a V6 with two turbos, one is bad enough.

As a dealer tech I've already seen the engine needing rebuilt for the new gen tundra. I imagine the new tacoma will be the same.
