1:04 In X-Men (2000) Magneto and his brotherhood of Mutants did hide out on an island. It was the place senator Kelly was brought to and turned into a Mutant but we never saw the island again. 2:31 Dazzler is so cool she as the ability to manipulate sound into light and energy beams. She used her gifts to become a major Pop Star in the Marvel universe. 3:18 Back during her first appearance in X-Men #1 (1963) Jean was introduced as Marvel Girl a title she held onto throughout the 1960s and into the 1970s from my understanding. I can't recall when the name was dropped but I think it was around the time of the Dark Phoenix Saga (1980) when she went by Phoenix and later just Jean Grey. Also calling a grown woman "girl" got alot of backlash in the 1970s so characters like The Invisible Girl of the F4 were renamed to The Invisible Woman. 5:23 Oh yeah Moira MacTaggert is the wife of Banshee in the comics and the show. She's also Scottish while Banshee (Sitting beside her) is Irish. I can't recall if she and Charles had a thing in the comics but she cares for him alot. 5:47 Max Eisenhart was revealed to be his real name with Erik Magnus Lehnsherr being an assumed identity, never brought up in the films. 9:47 This guy on the right is actually Sebastian Shaw who was played by Kevin Bacon in X-Men First Class. The movie showcased a VERY differant take on the character to the comics with the fact he's the leader of the Hellfire Club being the only thing the film took from the comics. Sebastian Shaw in the movie was like three differant X-Men characters mixed together, beside him is also Emma Frost who was also in First Class. 12:51 Rogue during her early years as a member of the Brotherhood of Mutants encountered Carol Danvers, known as Ms Marvel and later Captain Marvel. Rogue infused with Danvers when she touched Ms Marvel even sending Danvers into into coma for a while. For the films they didn't have the rights to anything beyond The X-Men so Rogue never got the chance to gain these powers.

They somehow managed to combine 3 of the most horrific comic moments into a single episode, and do it flawlessly. As a not so funfact: 16 million died in that attack in the comics. Also the girl you said was like Jubilee is called Dazzler. She was supposed to be in the original series but was replaced by her to appeal more to kids. A person to learn with them. Oh and one more thing. Go back and look at the sky when the fire works were going off. The Watcher was there. He only shows up for important events.

FYI, this show is loosely based on the comics in the 1990's. You might be happy to know that Gambit and Rogue got married in the comics a few years ago.......also they found a way to be able to touch each other. As far as rogue being able to fly and having super strength - before she became an xman she was a villain. She absorbed Ms. Marvel(Carol Danvers) abilities and unintentionally was able to permanently keep the super strength and flight. The movies aren't the best source to refer to on the characters because they aren't the source material.
@mikecameron66676 ай бұрын
This episode is one of the best pieces of Marvel media ever.
@NathanielWhitehead-vg3lc7 ай бұрын
In the comics, Rogue permanently absorbed Captain Marvel's super strength flight, memories and conscience. This left Carol in a coma for years. The reason the live-action films (produced by FOX) didn't give Rogue those abilities is because 2 decades ago, Marvel was facing bankruptcy. So they sold off the live-action rights to most of their characters to other media companies. The Hulk was sold to Universal. Spider-Man to Sony, and The Fantastic Four and X-Men to FOX. Marvel held on to most of their Avengers characters. The Marvel company itself was then purchased by Disney. Since Captain Marvel was still owned by Marvel, FOX couldn't use any storylines for Rogue that involved Captain Marvel. A few years ago, Disney bought FOX. So now, Marvel has regained access (through other business deals) to all of the characters they originally sold off, so thats why we're getting new X-Men content from them of how the characters powers and personalities were in the comics.

Not sure if you saw the original show at all. When Prof X was on his death bed, literally, he spoke to each of his xmen telling them something perosnal. I saw a comment on another video mention how the Prof last words to gambit hit harder now since he told him, "how many times must the scoundrel prove he's a hero, before he believes it himself," or something like that. Another fun fact: not sure if you are into the comics, I just watch random reactors from time to time, but the events in this episode arent just tied to days of futures past. The sentinel wiping out mutants on genosha is from E is for Extinction. Cable mentions he is coming so most likely it isnt Cassandra nova, Prof X evil twin essentially, who sent that sentinel to genosha in the comics. I have a three hunches but i dont want to potentially spoil anything real big in regards to the main villain. I think they are using both days of future past and e is for extinction events into one. Cable is the key. I also think they will also do age of apocalypse

12:52 No, unfortunately. In the comics also in the original animated series, the reason she can fly because when she was a villain, she absorbed Captain Marvel's powers (Carol). Usually when Rogue touches someone, she temporarily has their powers. However, she held on to Carol for so long, the powers permanently remained in her and Carol was in a deep coma. Rogue felt guilty and left her life if crime. She was also confused since Carol's memories were inside her mind. That's when she ran into Professor X and join the X-Men! I really hope we see Rogue do this to Captain Marvel in the MCU! 💪

Okay sorry I am late to the party, But good reaction to the show. In the comics Rogue has Super strength, Flight, near invulnerability, along with her original power of Absorbing the powers and life force of anyone she touches. Along with powers, Rogue can also absorb some of their memory. While she was part of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, she followed her evil mother (Mystique) and she absorbed Carol Danver's powers and memory. Thus she gained the Super Strength, Invulnerability, and Flight. Carol Danver's (Captain Marvel) went into a coma, myself and most comic book fans would love to see this version of Rogue in the MCU, one thing it introduced Rogue as a grey character, and two, Captain Marvel is very annoying, or maybe just Brie Larson herself. I hope this answers your question, why the Fox Xmen Rogue never flies, and she only has one basic power- absorption.

The creator of the show, Beau demayo, has said that the depiction of the genoshan genocide was in large part inspired by the 2016 Orlando pulse nightclub shooting. He said that the feeling of a safe space for queer people to be themselves being invaded and massacred heavily influenced his approach in writing this episode and the reactions to it in later episodes. Mutants have often been used as an analogy for oppressed groups, whether it be by race, sexual orientation, gender identity or religion, so his experiences as a black queer man heavily affected his storytelling here

Episode 5 is a masterclass in emotional manipulation. As an X-Fan, you experience the thrill of victory, the sting of defeat, the weight of loss, and the glimmer of hope - all within a single episode. Not Captain Marvel, but Ms. Marvel. Carol Danvers didn't take on that name until Marvel Studios started plans to make a movie about her, and obviously her costume back then wasn't really appropriate for a powerful female lead, so the guys on the comics book side had no choice but to give her a new costume and name.
@UrsusObesus2 ай бұрын
Rogue didn't fly in the live action version because her only mutant power is to absorb the powers/memories of others. Usually this is temporary and depending on how long she is in contact is how long the powers last. In the comic book, she started as part of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and got her flight, super strength/speed and invulnerability from absorbing the powers of Ms. Marvel/Carol Danvers. She almost killed Carol because of how long she remained in contact with her and actually stole her powers and memories because she remained in contact so long. She became an X-Man because she was switching between her personality and Carol's constantly, so she went to Xavier and the X-Men for help. This really is never shown in the X-Men cartoon series because it was set in the 90's and Rogue joined the X-men in Issue 171 from 1983.

Just a primer on Rogue's powers: she basically absorbs powers and memories whenever she touches a person. The only reason she can also fly and is super strong and tough is because she held on to Captain Marvel (yes, her!) for too long and absorbed her powers permanently (back when she was still working with Mystique as a villainess). This did not happen in any of the live action movies. Also, captain Marvel did go into a coma, but she did eventually get better. Her history is wild in the comics by the way.

Looks like we're getting the radicalized Scott Summers, and remember Rogue in this series has the powers of Ms Marvel, that she kept from back when she was with her "evil mother", so Rogue is pretty tough. Don't know if she would have survived that Tri Sentinel blast, but she's pretty durable. I dunno, Gambit looked pretty dead, Magneto too. Though Shaw and Emma were nowhere to be seen during that attack. Watching this reaction made me notice something with Valerie Cooper, with her reaction to when she heard Rogue would be joining Magneto on Genosha, not going to spoil too much but I don't think she's who she appears to be. That's some other person!!!!

@nedzed36637 ай бұрын
@eingoluq Yeah, I noticed that too, and that could be due to her just being human, and they scanned her as such, ignoring her or using non-lethal on her. But that weird emotional reaction to the news about Rogue, plus mentioning her "evil mother" in the same episode? Could a shapeshifter fool the Sentinel X-gene detection? Does it change at the genetic level enough for them to register as human? I dunno, decades of X-Men twists and turns, reveals, etc, in the comics might be having me reading too much into this, Lol. I'll be keeping an eye on Valerie from here on out, though

A promise was made. We will not live our days wondering if we could have saved more. Habe keine Angst.

You are correct that Rogue didn't have super strength and toughness or the ability to fly in the live-action films, but that's because she was still a teenager who had just discovered her powers. Remember that when Rogue touches someone, she begins to absorb their power and then she can use it. If the touches them too long, she absorbs the powers permanently. In the comics, she completely absorbs Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers) powers giving her super strength and durability as well as the ability to fly. We just never got to see that version of her live yet. Here's hoping for the MCU version to show an adult version of Rogue with those powers (or hell, she could steal the real Captain Marvel's powers in the MCU since we have a current Carol Danvers).

Even Moira McTaggert died in this episode.

if she dies...she'll just reincarnated back to her same life with the same memories....but it would be in another timeline.

@jetlorider2818 Moira is just a regular human who happens to not to be bigoted towards mutants and at one time was Xavier's girlfriend. So I have no clue as to WTF you are even talking about.

Marvel Girl is Jean’s codename, like Cyclops is Scott’s. She didn’t go by Marvel Girl in the original series, they’re retconning it here by saying she doesn’t usually use it ig.

This is based of Rogue in the 80's comics where she had permanently absorbed Carol Danvers powers

2:47 I agree with this. But I think he knows that she is scared of forming a committed relation with him so he plays it off nonchalantly to not pressure her

Rogue got her power to fly and super strength from Ms. Marvel/Captain Marvel in the comic books and 1990’s show, but Carol Danvers wasn’t in the Fox show, so she didn't get those powers.

Magnus is Magneto’s middle name. Most people seem to call him Magnus. Only close friends seem to call him Erik.
