This is one of those Death Battles where the winner won the battle, but lost a lot in the process. Discord tricked Bill by warping them out of the puppet dimension in the weirdness bubble (watch them emerge from Discord's portal rather than the bubble they entered) back to the Nightmare Realm. By doing so, Discord cancelled out Weirdmageddon, causing everything and everyone in Equestria to revert to normal. If he could kill Bill afterwards, great. If not, he's already trapped him and stopped Weirdmageddon. In short, Bill was looking to win the battle, but Discord was looking to stop/reverse the PLOT of the battle and save his friends, even at the cost of his life. Even that last part doesn't hold a lot of water, as it's been mentioned many times that as long as there is chaos in the universe, Discord will eventually remanifest his body and spirit, just not quickly enough to win a death battle.

You make very good points there my friend. It’s the way of “only way to win is to lose” & that’s what Discord did here. There power sets are so equally to each other & when they gonna toe to toe their personalities are so equal as well. Discord knew how to get the better of Bill after possessing his body or gone inside his head for a bit & that’s when he knew to win was too lose

@Sammacias5 Actually, their personalities differ in the sense that Discord is genuinely a playful, more "benign" kind of chaotic, whereas Bill is far more sadistic and cruel with his brand of chaos and anarchy, but hides it with his quips, wit and sarcasm. Also, the key to Discord trapping Bill was getting the triangle's full attention on him and away from Weirdmageddon. Engaging him in a fourth-wall shattering battle was the perfect way to slip in a portal back to the Nightmare Realm with Bill being none the wiser, as Bill was too focused on winning the Death Battle.

Eh, Bill himself has said (I think in the AMA?) that "dream demon" is an appellation given to him by others. He sees no reason to correct people but it isn't perfectly accurate, any more than "alien" is. Heck, arguably "alien" is more accurate, since Bill originates from a different universe.

For people saying bill won the battle but discord won the war you're wrong, bill won it's that simple, discord at most prolonged bills takeover. Abd for those saying discord will comeback aswell. Thats only been shown when his body has been destroyed, not his spirit. As they say thenselves destroying discords spirit will kill him, and even if he does come back they'd eventually fight again except bill wouldnt fall for the same trick. Stop riding discord, yes what discord did was honorable but he still lost accept that fact and move on
