Death Grip | Tekken 8 Zafina Combo Exhibition

As Azazel's vessel, the mystic Zafina goes through great lengths to quell the evil that lurks within. She tries to contain it, but Azazel's rage seizes the very fabric of her being. It is then, through no fault of her own, Zafina ensnares her victim with a deadly clutch.
She boasts a new arsenal of attacks in this latest installment of Tekken. Combos I enjoy making, and I hope you all share that sentiment by watching the video.

It seems that Zafina benefits from the heat mechanic quite a bit. Her self-inflicted damage gets nullified when activating heat, reaping the reward of solid damage. Personally, I think her movement remains intact by Tekken 8 standards. She's weaker than the former, but I still like her.

Sorry. I primarily make combos that are showpieces. A display of creativity and not practicality. There are sample combos in Tekken 8 geared towards those learning a few combo routes for Zafina.

I was in training mode and found that if you go down this route at 0:39 for a regular wall splat combo, ending the combo with TRT 4,3 does 68 dmg (which from what I've seen is her best wall combo dmg with no heat). Just to clarify I don't mean the re-wallsplat combo shown in the video. Just a regular combo. Also cool video! Edit: I just found out that TRT 1+2 breaks walls,balcony's, and activates wall blast for guaranteed b1, 1+2 for great dmg. So change the wall combo to TRT 1+2 if you are near one of those walls.

Are you saying fresh wall splat to 1,4! TRT 4,3 is better than fresh wall splat to df4,2! Uf1, df1,2,1?!?!

@@ayosgsauce No. Upon further examination it's more situational than anything. I found that if you were going down this combo route, WS 2 to bound at the wall then doing uf1, df1,2,1 does more damage (and breaks walls). but if you were going for the regular route (with the TRT df1 ender) if you hit the wall before the df1 ender and you're already in TRT, going for TRT 4,3 gives you more damage and you should go for TRT 1+2 to break walls if that's the case.

😂 she's no beast. Everyone else in the game can do all she did for wayyyyy more damage and I'm a Zaf main. She's fun yes but she's weak as hell and isn't any beast, ok maybe beast of the bottom tier

I would say Zafina in Tekken 7 was strong, but not overpowered. Her evasiveness and movement are the clear standouts with the character. The same can be said for her Tekken 8 iteration. With newer tools at her disposal, she's more of a threat than before. Some of those changes, in my opinion, are questionable. Having some of her moves automatically transition/locked into MNT is annoying. Her combo damage is a bit on the low side, but that depends on how the combo is made. Zafina's real damage comes from her slow launchers like f+3, counter hits and wall combos. Overall, I think Zafina is fine and still viable. Not as weak as people claiming her to be because of the Tekken 8 differences from 7.

@@Reyalp-Lla allow me say make some corrections to this. Although she isn't completely trash, she is honestly not playing Tekken 8 the way others are. First off her most damaging options come with cost of losing her. Her best normally are all linear and have almost to no tracking like df1, 3 or Scorpio stance 1+2. Her best neutral option(B1+2)was locked behind a stance which makes it nigh unusable now since it's really reactable up close. So Zafina had gone from the character who side stepped other into the character that's easily side stepped. Her most damaging routes don't even compare to 90% of the casts basic combos and note she loses health for this combo route. She is extremely fun and being a red rank with her has been fun but the higher I go in rank makes me realise why there aren't a lot of High rank Zafina players. She doesn't have any stand out quality honestly and would need tweaks and buffs

@@90sPotato It's only been two weeks and the time to discover her full potential is still out there. I've mentioned her low damage and said it depends on how the combo is made, along with other factors, determines the damage output. Yes, some of her normal launchers are linear (example: f+3). For moves like this to be successful, it depends on timing by the player, using it as a keep out tool. Other moves, like d/f+1, are primarily used for poking, block punishment, and whiff punishment when in range. Get too predictive and it will be sidestepped. The same can be said about her stance mixes. Using those tools in a pattern isn't good, and it's up to the player to create a mental stack to keep the opponent guessing. SCR 1+2 reduced tracking wouldn't matter when the opponent is hesitant to respond. Using Zafina in Tekken 8 requires a different approach and understanding.

The only reason many consider her bad is because, for every character that came from T7, there was a visible improvement or change coupled with the T8 system and how they play around the new mechanics. Although the game is still new, it's apparent what characters use the system well and she's lacking at the moment. As you said though, it's still early so let's see

Yep. The timing is kind of strict. It'd hit sometimes and count as a combo but won't do the tornado animation.

She's not as strong as her Tekken 7 counterpart, but a competent player can still work magic with her. Besides, the game is still early and there's lots to be discovered.

Combo damage is relative to how it's constructed. Even characters with low damage output can hit heavily in some situations. In this video, you'll see that these combos (although they're just for show) dealt close to or above 50% damage. That is a lot, considering the total health points is 180 in Tekken 8. But that's how the developers designed Zafina. They want players to use her in a particular way, and not rely---although available--entirely on combos.
