Death Guard vs Tempestus Scions | Warhammer 40,000 Battle Report

These battle reports are really helping me with my mindset. I've had a horrible time dealing with losing games (or having my sports team of choice lose) for pretty much my whole life. But seeing you folks display sportsmanship and have a good time no matter who is winning is helping me shift my perspective.

It can be tough to pay more attention to the experience during the game, the highs and the lows (because a high for one player is often a low for the other, so playing with friends you can at least be happy that they also get to enjoy playing). Often people just fixate on the end result, instead of enjoying the experience, and seemingly have way less fun while playing. Most people's brains easily fixate on negative things (negative bias if you want to research it yourself), and put basically no importance or weight on positive experiences. It's a tough nut to crack, but if you put conscious effort towards focusing more on the positives.. the world eventually becomes a little brighter, and things like tabletop war games are often a little more fun ^^

You get nothing for winning. Make a point to find joy elsewhere in your hobbies. Just like if your sports team wins you don't get a trophy or a cash bonus with them.

@@keithrogers6876 I would agree but there are just some armies that are not a fun experience to play against. Such as necrons, you wont have fun playing against them. As long as you have a game where anything and everything is possible then it is easy to enjoy. if you are facing a broken army I always say good luck cause it wont be fun.

I just started playing 40k a few months ago and I feel this. I have won ONE game this entire time. I gauge my "success" on how much fun I have.

@@andyseverance1519 thats fair but its hard to have fun when you do a bunch of rolls and then everything you do is undone with a CP or their mega death units walk through your army and one shot your commander

The Militarum Tempestus is such an underrated subfaction of the Imperium lore and game wise. I love them since their 7th ed mini-codex debut, and I am glad that you brought them some well earned glory on the battlefield.

Yeah, they're really overshadowed by Kasrkin right now. I wish they either gave them a more unique battlefield role and more options to flesh them out as a full on subfaction like they are doing with Kroot. Or just rip the bandaid and move them to a standalone Agents of the Imperium codex where they could be the basic battleline troop unit. I'd be okay with either to be honest.

Which is why I really want to run a psian jackal army as they are a scion regiment that specialize in hunting eldar and who would've thought 65 scions is really good

As a fellow Scion enthusiast, I remember that mini-dex. Always wanted to try out the Air Cavalry formation in that book. Never was a huge fan of the Taurox lol.

The small descriptions make this so good! The Taurox primes don't just move, they trundle, churn mud, and park, ready to disgorge their Scions. That's real storytelling.

Great battle report gents but...there's always a but...at the 39:55 mark, the scions who had to disembark from the destroyed vehicle should've been auto-battleshocked and hence could not have used the Over-watch strat to shoot at the Helbrute. Plus the Helbrute has a 2+ save so even if you ignore the fact that the scions could not have shot at him, the Helbrute would've had a 6+ save.

Great report. The production quality is so high and the painting is brilliant. Always enjoy Scion armies. I know guard need fixing themselves really to some extent, but like tau, it would be good to have more variety in their lists to represent humanities many worlds and infinite variety.

23:30 as I remember, ferric blight increases ap by 1. It also increases ap by another 1 next to corrupted objective, but only on 6 to wound, not always, though it wasn't a thing in that round

7:13 Taurox should have a save because smoke gives cover. Also it would be AP -4 with the additional minus because I am assuming you brought the Death Guard ability to worsen saves by 1 and since the Hellbrute shot at the Taurox it made its save 1 worse. The smoke would make it AP -2 so it would get a 6 up save because its save is reduced to a 4.

Don't forget that the Helbrute applies both contagions to a target of your choice that you hit after hitting with an attack. Doesn't make sense to shoot it after other units when you could have started with it and worsened the toughness and save of your target for everything else going into it. Also just saying, the one at 39:50 still had a 6 to save against the melta since it was ap-4, and considering you got the 6 for the deadly demise, you may have gotten it. You also rolled your lethal hits you made at 41:20

Old 9th edition rule. There is no cap on aircraft in 10th ed. Instead they just gutted aircraft ruleswise so you don't have a reason to bring a lot of them, outside of narrative considerations. Which is one way to fix them, I guess!

Nice narrative game. I love my tempestus glory boys but holy hell they are useless against any kind of T10+ armour, as a standalone force they no good.

Meh, I agree if the only thing you put on the table is 75 tempestus models and a few taurox, but even just a little bit of mix makes them unreal. Add a full squadron of 3 armoured Sentinels and an armiger warglaive or even a Leman Russ. A full compliment of tempestus models runs you 810 points, plenty of space left over for 360-380 points of Sentinels and either a warglaive or a Leman Russ. hell, add 2 warglaives or Leman Russ, or 1 of each. Sentinels can be reinforced so you'll never be truly without anti tank potential.
