Not a day goes by that I don't miss this band in any or all of its incarnations. They always managed to find the best of the best players. Being from Altamonte Springs myself, where Chuck lived and died, I felt a pretty close connection with this band and Chuck was my main inspiration in picking up and learning to play guitar back in the '80s. I saw them at least 12 times live, in various hole-in-the-wall bars around Florida, but never in a stadium setting. I often wonder what they might sound like today as Chuck was interested in heading a slightly different direction with his writing and playing. RIP Chuck Schuldiner and Sean Reinert.💔 You live on through your musical legacy and in all of our hearts.
@morganfarlie3 жыл бұрын
That is INCREDIBLY touching and I'm so glad to meet someone who lived in the same place Chuck did! You're very fortunate to have seen them so many times and I'm glad you enjoyed so many incarnations. Sadly, I'm JUST a bit too young to have seen them, save for MAYBE on the last tour in 98 when they came through NM, but I was only 14 and had just started my metal journey. I have more material to discuss and release about my thoughts on Chuck's potential future that I'll be releasing over the coming months as I too miss this band dearly in all its iterations, if you couldn't tell XD And a sad reminder that Scott Clendenin and Ralph Santolla are ALSO not with us anymore :/

@@morganfarlie I was fortunate to have been in my teens during the Florida Death Metal explosion of the mid to late 1980's (I was born in 1970). So many great bands came from within a few miles from my home. Death, Deicide, Cynic, Massacre, Morbid Angel, Obituary, Atheist, Disincarnate, Six Feet Under... The list goes on, and I saw them ALL in small bars and clubs from Tampa to Daytona Beach and all points between. It was a great time to be alive, lol. So I could have had the chance to see Death at SOME point in there...if my parents were VERY open minded as I was between the ages of 9-11 XD Still, I like thinking that Chuck or some of the band stopped by to grab a soda at a gas station or something on their way to Tampa and Morrisound to record Symbolic :P

Gene wearing those shades while playing the skins is beyond brutal. Chuck goes without saying lol I’m 40 now and as a musician/artist, I’ll always idolize that man. Chuck changed lives with his music, and considering it was pioneering Death Metal, that’s really saying something. My Symbolic logo tattoo tingles when I hear shows like this one! Cheers for the upload, fellow metal brother! 🤘🤘🤘
@morganfarlie Жыл бұрын
Hey, I couldn't agree more! I think Gene is one of the most important METAL drummers of all time and he has always oozed cool and played VERY often with his shades on. I'm 38 myself and though I don't have a tattoo of the band, when people ask me what I believe in I tell them the following, " Have you heard the good word of our Lord and savior, Chuck Schuldiner?" Thanks for watching and commenting!
@Blackmetaljulian Жыл бұрын
iirc some musicians wear shades due to stage fright, it’s easier to focus on the task at hand instead of getting distracted looking at the 1000 eyes in the crowd. of course gene hoglan is so badass he probably wears those sunglasses in bed just for the cool factor :D

Chuck, Gene, Bobby…. And I can’t tell if that’s Kelly on bass. It’s 1995. So it’s probably Kelly. Not sure if Steve was doing any live shows with them at this time. And it seems too early for Scott - Wikipedia says he didn’t join until 1997, I doubt he was doing shows at the time. Maybe someone more informed can let me know. Also, I’m only two songs in. Maybe Chuck introduces all the members later in the set. But regardless WHICH bassist it is, that’s one fuck of a lineup. But I could be biased as “Symbolic” is my favourite Death album.
