Fun little story here. Alex Webster, bass player and main lyricist for cannibal corpse, is also one of the nicest guys from a metal band i ever met. This actually describes a lot of metal musicians. At fests it's like they are on stage and next thing you know - they are in the crowd enjoying the next show and signing stuff. I was once standing outside the club and talking to friends and some other people discussing Arch Enemy or something, we discuss other things and everyone laughs. Suddenly some guy comes up and pulls one guy aside and tells him: "Come on... Duty calls." He gets pulled up on the stage and turns out he's a vocalist for some foreign band that opens for Arch Enemy. You hang around longer and people from the band just start mingling. Especially the bands that play both bigger stages and smaller venues as well.

Geraldo Rivera, riding the wave of the original satanic panic into the 90s said "if you listen to White Zombie you will become a criminal and a drug addict." Legendary actor and former NRA spokesperson Charlton Heston spent alot of time and money trying to cancel Ice T's Body Count in 1992 before there was even a name for what he was doing. Many senators tried to get labels to drop Cannibal Corpse the first time around and senator Joseph Lieberman (D, Connecticut) spent years trying to get Marilyn Manson cancelled and dropped from Interscope Records as he blamed Columbine on him. Senators also tried to get Eminem dropped from his label for saying "faggot" and having songs about murder. Now, fast forward to 2024 and leftist generation Z clowns are trying to cancel Cannibal Corpse for lyrics from 10 years before they were even born as if it's something new and noble.

I think there's a very distinctive cultural difference between the "cancelling" of then and the "cancelling" of now. Take for instance Christian groups protesting Marilyn Manson shows, along with some of the other examples you gave, what was the outcome? It only made the bands popularity grow.
