One of my favourite aspects of the Legend of Zelda series is its ability to run the entire span from utterly horrifying to downright delightful. Something Ocarina of Time really takes to its extremes, and does so without ever feeling off. One of the many reasons it became such a legendary title, it was truly a game almost anyone could play and enjoy.

You mentioned your appreciation for the NPCs. Yes, during this era and on the SNES as well, the NPCs mostly played A significant role. I loved that about the old games. They don’t say stuff just to say stuff, they can give you hints, backstory, give you items, and clues to where to go next. I miss that kind of stuff in games.

At 33:12 you mentioned one of my favorite parts of Zelda, and something I’m so sad they took away. I love the progression and getting certain items or equipment that lets you access new areas. Also like in this and Link to the Past where the item you get in a dungeon usually is what is used against the boss. I miss that. I like BOTW/TOTK, but I don’t care for the open world, do anything in any order, go straight to the final boss stuff. It’s just not as fun to me when that’s the case.
@HeroOfHyla6 ай бұрын
I totally agree. BotW is hundreds of tiny little bite-size chunks of content, with no expectation of anything mattering for more than 10 minutes or so, presumably to make it easier to pick up and play on the train or something. Same problem i had with Mario Odyssey.

This was so pleasant to watch. I just found your channel from this play through, what a find! You're playing more intelligently than I did at 8 years old in 1998 that's for sure. The spirit of adventure, and the feeling like anything could happen or be around the next corner is a high I got from this game that I never truly found again until exploring all the unmapped caves in tears of the kingdom last year. Also, you mentioned in a previous episode how good all the music and sound effects are. I'm sure you wouldn't know this, then, since you're so new to the game, but they're actually SO good that there was a KZbin video years ago from a person who was blind and able to play this game without issue, through careful movement and listening to the sound cues alone, listening to Links footsteps stop and then striking with the sword to check if he was stood next to an NPC, a wall, or a rock etc because everything makes different sounds when you try to strike it, or interact with it. I wouldn't go looking for it until you've finished the game, but it's worth seeking out if you want a really wholesome watch later on.

9:05 as mentioned in my comment to your Shadow Temple video, here is an example of these blocks not changing location from point A to point B, but rather from point A (past) to point A (future). This is one of the very few locations you can directly access the same location in both the past and the present and therefore observe how the blocks actually function. So to the point made in your Forrest Temple video re: why would the Song of ‘Time’ have an effect on these blocks, it is, in fact, not just random, but actually fits in with the songs intended purpose.

I've played this game so many times that I just _know_ how to progress, and watching you play I keep stopping and wondering "how is someone supposed to know what to do next?" Like I can't remember ever talking to that Goron who gives you the hint to play Saria's song in front of Darunia.
@caistigh20624 ай бұрын
I think parts of this have to do with how stupid YOUNG most of us were when we played (me at least) Maybe we talked to that guy, maybe we didn't. But I sure as shit wasn't smart enough to connect the forest song to Saria my first go around EITHER WAY. Then, the second time I already KNEW so I'd beeline to Darunia, no clue gathering required. Additionally, we miss things that he'd find. I definitely did NOT know you could stun beamos with a sword. That would have been SO useful in certain circumstances
@coloradodafronteira4 ай бұрын
I was thinking about that too. I don't remember how I did this Darunia section the first time I played it, and now I simply just know what to do. I wonder if the "intended" solution is to listen to that Goron that gives the hint, then go through the shortcut to Lost Woods (following the forest music), learn Saria Song and then go back to Goron City through the shortcut again. That would make a lot of sense. I always go back to the forest as soon as Impa leaves me by the castle.
@caistigh20624 ай бұрын
@@coloradodafronteira I do think that's probably the intended way as well, and likely some semblance of what I did too the very first time. Though, I don't think I talked to the Goron. At least, not to the extent of the connection clicking at least. I wager what I did was go to the Gorons, explore around and eventually find out about Darunia's door. At that point "Triforce=Zelda's Lullaby" is already a thought process so I probably spent half an hour playing it for Darunia to exhaust every song until I tried Saria's song. But yeah, now it's more like; Zelda's Lullaby achieved, go get Saria's, and probably Epona's song on the way for convenience, back to Kakariko, Suns Song/bottle etc etc, Darunia and Dodongo's with little side tracking unless I'm planning to 100%

Because of the n64 controller’s weird layout, it’s rarely touched or known about, but you can turn the in-dungeon map that you get on and off with it. It's usually mapped to the L-Bumper by default on modern controllers. You can also change the settings on the main menu so you can *hold* the Z-Trigger to target something instead of tapping it and having it stick. I find that to be more natural.
