Soichiro is very metronomic, if you notice.... he's almost exactly on the beat, and stays steady the whole time. As soon as Light comes in, the steady beat disappears, and he swings the beat to his will.... Even when they sing together, he's not exactly on the beat with his dad. He's literally crossing the line.....

I really love 1:51 - 1:55. Light is echoing his father, but he doesn't repeat the entire thing. Mr. Yagami says "You don't load a gun, close your eyes, and shoot" - implying that Kira shouldn't shoot/kill in the first place - while Light says "you don't close your eyes and shoot". If you'll recall from the song Hurricane, Light compares the Death Note to a gun ("writing is the gun; I only have to aim"). When he says "you don't close your eyes and shoot", he's not saying that Kira shouldn't shoot _at all._ He's saying that Kira should "shoot" with eyes open, and a clear vision of his target. Thus, it's another subtle reflection of the fact that Light is only going along with the investigation for himself. Externally, he may be repeating what Mr. Yagami says, but internally, he's scheming for his own benefit.

When you think about it, Soichiro's strong sense of justice must be something that Light also inherited. But it could be, that because Soichiro raised Light to have this strong sense of justice that is one of the the reasons why Light started to write criminals names in the Death note. So in a way, Soichiro, while trying to teach about justice to Light, actually advanced the likelyhood of Light becoming Kira without knowing. The thought "criminals must be bunnished" that Light learned from his father mixed with his black and white vision of the world cave Light the moral reason to justify his deeds.
@melindamelton56125 жыл бұрын
Also given the fact that the Death Note influences it's user, twisting Light's mind and reasoning, in the beginning Light only killed criminals,but as the series went on Light killed everyone who was against him,even though they were innocent.
@fabulousmyriad2674 жыл бұрын
I always felt that Soichiro's maturity and humility made him a good lawman. However, Soichiro 's example of complete devotion to the law and family may have led to Light's excessive hubris in his own charm & intelligence which in turn led to his distorted views of justice. It was boredom and curiousity that led Light to using the notebook, instead of trying to work on his personality flaws or build meaningful relationships with the people in his life.
@TsubasaOfTheSword3 жыл бұрын
I think this idea is greatly reflected in the song, “Honor Bound” where Soichiro questions if Kira could be “some insane, unfeeling, monster somehow raised by me”. He feels that if Light somehow is Kira, that it’s his own fault as a parent.

Light, L and Soichiro always made a good and really interesting combination IMO Light is a corrupt, power hungry mass murderer who firmly believes he's doing a good to the world, and manipulates or kills anyone standing in his way to achieve his vision of the New World. L profundly disowns the actions of "Kira" and puts his life in danger to trap and stop him, yet he also manipulates people in the middle and breaks the very laws he's supposedly protecting, justifying the means to an end just like Light did. And Soichiro has probably the strongest moral code of the three, with the ends being irrelevant to him if the means are unacceptable. Even if by doing nothin or chosing the inefficient road, he's not willing to ditch his moral code and become the very monster he's trying to stop.

You know what this reminds me of? In D&D, I loved the Alignment System: Not just Good or Evil, but also Chaotic and Lawful. Not every hero counts as a “Hero” (Most soldiers are just killers), and not every villain is heartless, (All For One still loved his brother despite being evil. I love how there are kind villains and cruel heroes, and how the line between them is almost imperceptible. That’s basically what Death Note is about: The “Hero” of the story isn’t the most pleasant, neither is the “Villain”, (AKA L), evil...

my alias I absolutely think that Light is doing the same thing in this. He's agreeing with his father but he's twisting. When they sing together Light mirrors everything his father says until he skips over the line you don't load a gun and goes straight to saying you don't close your eyes and shoot. Because he agrees with everything else his father says. Like yes you don't kill someone as a substitute. Yes you don't close your eyes and shoot. But he has no problem with loading a gun. Because in hurricane he made a point to say he was handed a loaded gun that all he has to do is aim. And then he doesn't even repeat or alter his father's line about not killing someone just to read the signs because he instead replies with it not being better than bad that good defines because in his mind when he kills people to test the death notes ability he's also punishing them so it's not killing someone /just/ to read the signs. And he feels that L had no problem killing his actor just to read the signs. I think just by looking deep and hard every line Light sings shows more of his characters brilliance.

In the anime, Light could have been a vaguely relatable character, or at least understandable in some way, because his reasoning was allegedly "make the world better for decent people," even if he continuously failed at it. But then there was Sayu's kidnapping. Soichiro was willing to trade the most powerful weapon in the world to get his child back. Light considered killing Sayu. At that moment, Light couldn't even lie to himself about why he was being Kira, because if he wasn't trying to make a world his family could live and be safe in, what was it? Like he said, he wanted to be the god of the new world, and he gave up his humanity in pursuit of that goal. Of course, the musical is very different, but this is the thought process I had listening to this song. Light crossed the very line he claimed to have put in place.
