There are two cuts for these movies: The individual extended cut for each one and the Grindhouse cut. The Grindhouse version cuts some parts of Planet Terror and Death Proof so they could be put together without tiring the audience and justifies it with "Missing film roll" in the screen, or something like that, which is pretty funny and adds to the 70's trashy Drive-in/Grindhouse experience, in my opinion. And the Grindhouse includes intermissions and special trailers inbetween the films, directed by friends of Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez, like Eli Roth, Rob Zombie and Edgar Wright, and they are fucking hilarious, including one with Nicolas Cage. The Grindhouse cut is 3 hours long, so I highly recommend you watch it some time, like in Halloween.

The way I see it, the movie is cut off before they can deal with it. The editing proves that the movie is called "Thunderball" but has been cut up into "Death Proof" by an unscrupulous exhibitor. The fact that the movie ends really abruptly indicates to me that there was probably a coda that the editor cut off because he wanted the movie to be shorter so they can run an extra showing later in the day. It makes total sense that these badass ladies would drive the rickety car back and pick up their friend (who is likely boring the shit out of Hillbilly Guy by telling long-winded stories he doesn't want to hear), so the way I see it, the movie is cut off before the story is done and that's the point.

Jungle Julia was a radio DJ. You even hear them on the radio in Planet Terror saying RIP to Jungle Julia.

The concept of the Grindhouse double feature hearkens back to the far away days of the Drive-In Theater. I'm not old enough to remember myself but from what I heard from older family it was all about getting together with your friends for a cheap movie where you could go park and be rowdy and watch something violent and raunchy. One of those nostalgia for a time you never got to experience. But this event did come out while I was in college and I did go see it in the theater. It was fun, but people were understandably less rowdy than at an outdoor venue.

I don't know how I forgot about this classic. I was on the edge of my seat when I first saw it, and re-watched it a few years ago, and it's still great. Kurt Russell was also in Breakdown (1997), which I thought was a good suspense/revenge style movie that's worth checking out. (Although it also starred J.T. Walsh, who sadly died in 1998.)

A good racing movie is "Rush", which I enjoyed quite a lot. But then Ron Howard is one of my favourite Directors.

I saw them in theaters back to back, opening night. All those commercials were shown as well. It was an incredible night.

This is my favorite Tarantino movie and I really got a kick out of all your reactions from "Death Proof" . This was just as much fun watching your reactions as it was watching the film. I am very glad you loved watching this film. Thanks Brandon :)

Oh! Brandon I don't know if someone else mentioned this but the way "Stuntman" Mike knew about "The Poem" was because Julia is a local D.J. in Austin . Julia was talking on the air about her friend Butterfly and the bet was open to anyone in Austin who would come up to Butterfly... hoping to get her friend a good time while she was visiting . Julia did explain to Butterfly about the bet at the bar Butterfly was given that margarita . That's why Mike was talking to Butterfly about being wounded... her feelings were a little hurt that she didn't get the attention she thought she would .

Fun Fact: On Zoe's Stunt scene, since she is a stunt actress, the first takes she tended to cover her face, as a stunt usually do when replacing an actor, then tarantino said to her that she dont need to cover, and the rest is that awesome stunt scene.

Jungle Julia is a radio DJ in Austin. She said the whole thing about Butterfly and the poem, lap dance, etc on her radio program. That's why stuntman Mike knew about it. All of it was broadcast on air at her radio station.

Not sure if it's been mentioned. 5:43 Director Eli Roth. He directed the fake trailer "Thanksgiving" that I believe is between the two movies.

I owned a '71 Nova just like Deathproof - excet mine was white. Mine was also re-built as a track car; it got 6mpg on high-octane fuel!

That Chevy Nova he drives is awesome. Great video

Lucked out and saw this in a lower budget theater (similar in tone to an actual grindhouse from the day) that was absolutely packed. Entire place was cheering by the end of Death Proof.

I was 13 when I snuck into the movie theater to watch the double feature. I finally understood the saying, “keeps you on the edge of your seat” during the last 20-30 min. Such a great car chase!

To answer your question, yes you got one ticket for Grindhouse and saw both movies, the fake trailers before and between each movie. It was a long time in the theater but such a blast!!!

Maaan one of my favorite moves, I'm surprised you didn't cached the parallels between the two groups, like when Stuntman Mike talks about the movies he's been in and then, the second group of girls talk about the same movies because Zoe and Kim are stuntgirls, giving the first hint of how this is gonna play out.
