Peter Schiff: “US and EU will have Argentina-type inflation”

Paul Buitink talks to Peter Schiff, founder of Schiffgold, about the increasing global debt levels. When Paul asks which currency is in the most trouble, Peter responds that's it looking bad for all and especially for the US dollar. It's just because of its world reserve status that on the surface the dollar still doesn't look as bad as the others.
He believes that debt will increase in both the U.S. and the EU, with politicians prioritizing reelection over the economic and public well-being. This unsustainable trajectory, he warns, may lead to Argentina-style inflation, because politicians won't dare to default.
Peter talks about the endgame for the current financial system and the role the dollar and gold will play going forward.
Peter remains skeptical about the value of cryptocurrencies like bitcoin. In his view, a cryptocurrency only has real value when backed by a tangible asset such as gold. Without such backing, he argues, cryptocurrencies lack inherent value.
Peter says you have tot protect yourself with gold and other non-printable assets. The US presidential election results will not change that since both candidates will bring more inflation.

Keep your money away from the banks I foresee a recession lasting 2-3 years, and if inflation continues to surge, the Federal Reserve will likely raise interest rates soon. Inflation is causing various issues worldwide, such as food shortages, scarcities of diesel and heating fuel, and significant spikes in housing prices, leading to a potential financial market crash. This global downturn could have long-lasting repercussions. Given the current inflation rate of approximately 9%, my main worry is how to optimize my savings and retirement fund, which has remained stagnant at around $300,000, yielding almost no gains for quite some time.

Numerous opportunities exist to achieve substantial profits at present, but executing high-volume and nearly flawless trades requires the expertise of real-time professionals with an ISDA Agreement. This agreement allows investors to participate in sophisticated trades, exclusive to seasoned individuals, and unavailable to amateurs. Attempting to be a high-stakes trader without an ISDA is akin to trying to win the Indy 500 riding a llama.

Our economy is like a flailing fish, fighting for its life. The normal state of the U.S. economy is actually very bad. Because of this it goes into convulsive spasms fighting to grow any way it can out of desperation. Tricks, gimmicks, rule changes try to stimulate the economy and prevent it from falling but they only bring temporary relief to people since, when you factor in inflation we are declining.

Wow! What a great video. you so well articulated. Monetary and Fiscal policies should work hand in hand to have a full effect, but we live in an era where government just doesn't care, it will spend and double-down and spend more and more.. it just doesn't care, and it would debilitate the monetary policy. The sad outcome will be likely BOTH the transition to a digital dollar CBDC that will give ultimate control to the government thus shrinking even more the independence of the central bank. At some point the central bank will have no actual meaning left. Honestly, it feels we're not too far from it already..... I would buy Bitcoin and buy hard assets like gold /silver as a store of value while also actively trading...The only wild card for us investors is to actively engage the market by trading, it's about playing it smart and steady during trading...managed to grow a nest egg of around 100k to a decent 432k in the space of a few months... A Chinese economist said, "the West has 1 day Democracy (Election day)", but many days make a meritocracy work (China's 30-year economic miracle) also: "The Chinese state guides capital and private entities towards what it believes are national strategic priorities, rather than allowing them to simply focus on generating greater revenue." Jack Ma founder of Alibaba & Ant Group thought he could prioritize profit; he was reminded that is not the Chinese way? President Xi Jinping was sent to work on a farm in a rural Chinese village in his youth to instill him with a sense of reality, he saw the importance of local ideas being able to percolate up to the top of the governing body to help all other villages in China.

Peter check this out. I'm a 100% Disabled Veteran (Actually my VA rating reaches 180% but that's VA math) and after being in Iraq for 7 years when I came home I was basically forced to retire from my Federal Law Enforcement position which is a FERs Disability Pension tied to Social Security Disability. All together because it's all tax free Im compensated 6 figures with 3 separate healthcare's and zero co pay, plus lots of other benefits - like I do not pay property tax in Michigan and school and much more. So let's say I receive around $150k to $175k per year in compensation for injuries and illness. I am so afraid it's all going to fall apart I don't spend any currency or own a home or have any debt. I take all the currency and buy physical Gold and Silver. But my buddies, the guys and gals I served with spend like there's no tomorrow. 5,000 sq ft homes on 10 or 20 acres, fancy expensive cars, all kinds of toys like boats, dirt bikes, snow machines. Their houses are furnished very nicely, they go on cruises and spend in lavish vacations and have one divorce after another. I know what they make because they are the same as me - VA disability, Federal Disability Pensions tied to SSD and the same healthcare. But I'm scared the dollars are going to be worth way less, the benefits are going to be cut, the toys and cottages won't be able to be sold and under water. I sometimes wonder if I should just live the happy lifestyle they are before I die or save and protect myself incase it all does fall apart.

You have it so bad and grip so much It makes me puke with your stupidity. I can say this cause I’m a 100% Vietnam veteran agent orange, benifits ain’t worth what I had to kill to get them, and all the death I had to walk away from. Get real and try sharing the spoils!

Why don’t you find a happy medium? Living in fear of everything being taken away is something every person could focus on and in the process, create for themselves a miserable life. We never know how many days we have left on the planet. If you died tomorrow in a freak accident, all your gold would be taken away from you anyway. My advice would be to spend money on getting yourself set up in your own home where you can live sustainably, not relying on the gov for anything. Then you’ll have the peace of mind that if your benefits were stopped for whatever reason, you can still feed yourself and have a roof over your head. Spend a 1/3 of what you have on a home (and say 10 yrs worth set aside for house related expenses like council taxes, etc), a 1/3 on provisions, tools, animals, tech to equip your home so it can run off grid and things to survive long term in a SHTF scenario, and allocate a 1/3 to investments. If you get yourself set up so that long term you can support yourself /survive off the grid, in your own home, this will alleviate a lot of anxiety about benefits being withdrawn as ultimately, no matter what happens, you’ll be fine. Then in the short/med term, use the returns on your investment money on a toy for yourself, if that’s what floats your boat. True happiness doesn’t come from material possessions anyway. Peace of mind comes from knowing you’ll be able to take care of yourself, without any help, should it come to that. Purely my two cents. But worrying about what you could lose tomorrow is no way to live happily today.

Hard assets such as real estate can deflate in certain parts of the country when they overbuilt and prices went too high, then the bottom dropped out of real estate in certain areas and many foreclosures happened. Some houses lost 60% of the value. The people that bought these homes at 60% decrease actually got a lot for their dollars.

No Argentina-like inflation, as the dollar will not collapse. FED will be forced to raise interest, the US government will raise taxation, inflation of basic products will increase, middle class will collapse by rising rents, collapsing commercial real estate, rising mortgages..... So, in the end the rich will live in encircled cities (like MIAMI already; a beer costs 15 dollar) ) and the working poor (30-40% of population) will live in slums, with zero buying power. O, BEAUTIFUL FUTURE UNDER THE RULE OF BANKERS.

I was in my early twenties in 2008. Peter Schiff helped me understand the mechanisms of an economy. I binged his videos, those of Irwin Schiff, then Milton Friedman, Sowell, Hayek, Mises, Buckley. I then bought some gold and binged the books of these thinkers and teachers. Nothing comparable was ever taught to me in school. Looking back, it seems to me the western nations are worse off in every metric compared to those days. Am I wrong?

Wouldn't you say that one of things that helped USA is that after WWII, it was the only country that was not destroyed. Unless we have another big war that leaves USA untouched, I think it will be harder than is being made out to be. Also don't you think others are aware of this.

DC is adding $1 trillion to the $34.5 trillion national debt every 100 days now. Furthermore, annual interest on the debt so far is more than $1 trillion (in 2007 it was $400 billion). Personally, I believe America has entered a debt/interest payment death spiral, and most can't see it or are in denial. You need look no further than the effects on the American consumer in terms of inflation and lack of good employment opportunities.

Fast forward to October 2024, sitting next to a business guy on my way to Miami; the gateway to Latin America He told me of all the effort they spent constantly repricing goods and services and impact on consumers and business.
