This wonderful and famous Prelude faced me with the question, what kind of mysterious evening is this? How can I depict its atmosphere and visualize that evening air with swirling fragrances and sounds? The delicacy and fragility of the piece obviously calls for soft imagery and abstract forms that are constantly in motion...
It quickly became clear to me that I would put the scene in a Mediterranean old town, where the breezes of a warm evening float through stone streets and houses in dim light. The exotic and mysterious sounds in some passages led me even further south into a North African medina, whose bedazzling fragrances cloud the mind and make its domes and towers barely recognizable...
