You can make it easest way. Make 2 UV maps. First is backround texture. And second UV use for decay. On shader node editor you can use it with Mix color node. Use two different UVs. And it is very ease way to to this same. I love the tutorials from Default Cube! You are cool man.

Nice! Quick question... how should I go about baking the texture with the decal on? If it's added after the PBSDF with a mix shader ? I never baked any images that were not connected directly into a single PBSDF... 🤔

Blender needs a new native object type - Decals. These would be rectangular prism shaped objects with their own materials and settings. When these objects touch another object (Of a set collection), the shader of that object would inherit properties from the decal object (Such as, a Diffuse color override). No playing with nodes, or anything overcomplicated. Just add decal objects and place it on other objects.

I work full time texturing company's products in blender and I have a very similar system that I made for doing this, but I never did clipping procedurally, I always just did it manually with some color ramps in constant mode, I might have to update my node group a bit.

I recently came across these stickers and got totally burned out. Substance Painter is still the best solution. Task: to make a music video where a guy rides through the city on a racing sports bike, something like a BMW RR1000s. The bike is custom, covered in stickers with flame patterns and tribal designs. AND THEN THE PROBLEMS STARTED: after I placed all the stickers and tried to render a single frame, the stickers turned into a mess. They just weren’t readable, even though everything looked fine in the viewport preview. I had to cut out parts of the polygons where the stickers were on the bike model, unwrap the UVs, move those parts into Substance Painter, apply the stickers there, and then bake the textures and bring them back to Blender. Only then did the stickers render correctly

I posted on his other channel and I'm posting here because this guy is so unethical that he can't be supported in my opinion. He made two recent videos destroying and then stealing the sales of two developers. Also judging by his addon reviews, he's only interested in quickly grabbing people's money without updating or keeping his addons working. In his words from the trace master video: 'We have a new target in the scope, image to 3d, which are starting to pi55 me off because they're charging for something that can be replicated easily' - kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHaXY5JoepedeqM I think you owe those developers an apology for a) suggesting they're ripping people off because their addon automates what can be done manually (which is the same as this addon incidentally (can be replicated with an empty and two shader nodes) b) stealing their addons and placing them on his own store.

Yeah I agree. Love CGMatter, but going after people who are solving small problems and trying to save people time with plugins is not a great look - especially if you sell the same thing through your own Patreon. It might be trivial for someone more math oriented to do what those guys did, but when I saw the depth to ai video I thought the same thing. Plugins exist to save people time to not create things from scratch, even if it's just saving 20 minutes - there's literally nothing wrong with selling those small solutions. That being said it's fine to release a competitor product if you think things are overpriced, but the other video it didn't seem like that was the intention. Hopefully he'll rethink after seeing these comments, it's great to innovate and make plugins even if they're small, but the motivation shouldn't be taking down small developers and saying it's just easy - isn't a great look. Better to be a net positive on society, innovate, create new tools (and actually be creative) - rather than destroy other people's livelihood and undercut the market with youtube virality, especially when CGmatter has some incredible skills and he could easily do so.
