P.s. That map that "nobody likes or at least nobody talks about" - I love that map for how you can use its architecture to your advantage (apart from the supercharge section). But yeah, you're right, I don't talk about it. I used to. I used to go to a party and go like "Hey, so how about those Waste Tunnels, eh? Lots of that hitscanner scum there, huh?". And now I don't go to parties.

Yay decino is back! Peter did great in your absence, but there's nothing like the soothing, dulcety tones of the decino to the whomp whomp of a rocket launcher to settle one's frayed nerves. :D Your guys' runs have inspired me to actually play DOOM again for the first time since I was a grade schooler knocking around in DOS, minus a brief stint with LAN DM after-school (before we got PCs that ran Q3A in our Drafting Lab). Beat E1-3 in D1, started on E4 (HMP - gotta get my map knowledge up before UV or above), and the first... nine? levels of DOOM 2 - it's a bit harder to keep straight without loading it up to check. So, since I bought the entire classic doom collection on steam, I've been using these videos as a guide whenever I cant find a secret on my own. I'm hoping to build my skills up enough to try and get through the games on UV with fast monsters. Granted, I had to use a source port (GZDoom) but hey, I'm not gonna fight with dosbox just to get things working. I just have everything a vanilla as possible. Keep it up man.

10:37 back when I barely was able to handle Barons of Hell in Ultimate DooM, the closing of the Focus was an actual challenge to my novice skills over a decade ago. Remember getting stuck here a lot dye to the chaingunners before really embracing the speed and strafing ability to dive into the pit below and picking them off with a shotgun. Nowadays, quick peeking at those blasted chaingunners is so much simpler. But the Focus is always a reminder of how far I've come.

I bought Doom 2 at a garage sale. It was version 1.666 on CD. When I finally got around to upgrading to 1.9, I was a bit confused about map02. On my current zdoom install, I still use the 1.666 version because it feels more like the good old days.

I do the Waste Tunnels differently based on how I refrain from entering doors if I can snipe or vault out of windows and yet return to my starting point. I flush out and eliminate everything until I move on through a door--a classic clearing method. I never stray from a wall and approach bends with my sights trained on them (I often play custom maps blind). This means the area with the windows and pit full of imps, combined with any windows stretching out to other regions, get hit first before I take the elevator into the dark area. I also snatch the plasma rifle early, like you did, but I don't even use it against opposition. On Fast Monsters, I might hit the Lost Souls with it because I'm still rusty with dodging and handling multiple charging targets at once. I apply buckshot on heavy-hitters and pepper hit-scum from afar. I happen to like the Waste Tunnels because it reinforces the idea of traveling through storm drains beneath the space port as an insertion method; the "City" episode lacks such cohesion.

Waste tunnels is fun and straightforward but requires a little bit of planning, and knowing what's in each room or it can overwhelm you. Tricks and Traps is a brilliantly designed level that feels novel even when you've locked down a route, but it's also made to be frustrating. It's like a big sack of fresh fruit with a bloody arm in the middle.

Peter's NM version was fun for sure, but it's really great that you're still going for 100% UV run of Doom2. NM has way too much ammo in it, and monster' respawn makes the gameplay too chaotic. UVmax is more interesting, especially with ammo logistics in some of the maps like Tricks and Traps or Barrels o'Fun. So, thanks, *dear magnificent decino*, rip and tear ^_^

GLBoom is nice but my preferred source port is Crispy Doom with original resolution rendering in widescreen and the semi-translucent HUD which gives you the same information as Screen Size 10 but shows the same gameplay area as Screen Size 11.

7:40 that backpack right there. I NEVER knew about that backpack in last 18 years of me playing this game. After watching this video and BigMacDavis' walkthrough, I checked that area with the iddt cheat. And guess what? THERE IS NO BACKPACK RIGHT THERE. So, if you play the game with the version I have, you'll get it only in map 6. I am currently using GZDoom port. Is that the problem? If not, then what is?

Why chainsaw at the start of the first map? I know the first few Doom 2 maps real well, and you don't need to worry about ammo for the first level, especially doing Pistol start on each level.
