Marchesa is the first deck I've built in a year that I'm excited for, I have almost nothing for it and that's what I love the most, I get to start from scratch, just like I did for my very first commander deck (which was also Grixis)

A really fun card in this deck is Flame-Wreathed Pheonix. You basically ask the player with the highest life total if they wanna give your pheonix 2 +1/+1 counters, or if they want to get swung at with a 4/4 with haste (that can't die either way due to one or both means of recursion).

I was in love with Marchesa, the Black Rose when I saw her, but I've never gotten around to building an EDH deck around her because while I love Grixis, her art, the unique effect ... I didn't like the idea of being so strongly based around creature aggro. That Child of Alara synergy is actually really interesting though and is a completely different take on her effect. Awesome deck tech, guys!

Tarnished Citadel is a good life total management/mana fixing card for Marchesa. I also run City of Brass, and am going to get a Mana Confluence. Dethrone always.

First off, love the channel. I am not too big into streams so I am happy that these are on youtube. Secondly, Marchesa is freaking awesome! Recently finished my marchesa edh. I usually only play French rules (the 1v1 format) because the group that I hang out with isn't super big on multiplayer and I really love the colors, plus her dethrone made it very interesting and challenging for 1v1. Third: Going back with what I just said, do you think you guys will do a video/podcast on the French version of edh? I know that both are vastly different worlds, but I have never actually seen a commander based channel actually talk about the French subformat of it. Keep up the great work!

mechamanexe Thanks! Glad you're enjoying the channel. We have been asked about a 1v1 a few times so we may tackle it at some point. Honestly it's not a form of Commander Jimmy & I are super passionate or familiar with so that's why we haven't talked about it up until now.

Two Buck Commander? I'm a new listener to TCZ (well new-ish) and I was looking through some back episodes for ideas. I have a Marchesa and excitedly took a look at your deck lists here. It was a bit of sad time, tbh, looking at $1500+ deck lists. Any chance you could do some sort of $200 challenge to build a deck on an average of $2 per card? Or C+199 where the commander costs whatever it costs and the rest average out to $2?

1) have you considered Shifty Doppleganger from the Odessy block to sneak large creatures on early and dethrone to keep them. 2) you mentioned that as a player you can choose to put your commander back into the command zone when he or she is "changing zones" does that mean that if Marchesa is in the graveyard and an opponent exiles your graveyard or even targets to steal Marchesa from your graveyard that you can then put her back in the command zone?

Guys just as a small addendum: Archmage means highest mage so there should be only one Glen Elendra Archmage, but as soon as one dies they probably name a new mage in Glen Elendra to be the Archmage ;-)

Put a clackbridge troll in my marchesa edh commander deck. Give the tokens to the opponent with the lowest life because not going to be attacking them anyways. Put a +1/+1 counter on clackbridge troll and now opponents have to face a 8/8 creature with haste, trample and dethrone. Do they sac a creature and give you a draw or take that big hit?

i like the marchesa deck i build up it myself but i wonder that some cards from the 2014 commander are missing like: gisa, ghoulcaller / bolas apprentice/ flesh carver gisa for example can fill your borad wird an arme of zombies!

Honestly I think you guys made a mistake about moving away from Modular. My deck has never been better since I went in that direction. Yes Marchesa is not an artifact, but with a single modular creature, Marchesa and a sack outlet, you can do crazy game ending stuff with Noxious Gearhulk, Duplicant, Wurmcoil Engine etc.
