I always thought Mr. Johnson's "You going out dressed like that?" line to Alice referred to the fact that her outfit was frumpy and hideous.
@edithsmith15244 жыл бұрын
It was. Drunks aren't happy people. The movie was setting her up to take Kristen's place. Kristen was too distraught to master her powers; thus, Alice was the right replacement, as she was a chronic daydreamer who had practice at being put upon and constantly flexing her mental muscles to escape all that drudgery. They never explained her's or Kristen's purposes properly. Freddy and Kristen were gate keepers in dreamland. Freddy was the darkness, and Kristen was sent to be the lighter spectrum. That's why losing Nancy hurt so much. She probably would have understood how to guide them.

My take on Freddy's resurrection in this is that Kristen's inability to forget him, combined with her paranoia spreading to Kinkaid and (maybe?) Joey (as shown by Kinkaid being freaked out by his dog creeping outside the door), gave Freddy just enough power to come back. The dog pissing on his grave happened in a dream, not in the real world, so it was more to scare Kinkaid even more (to gain more power) before Freddy could actually kill him. Kinkaid's death gave Freddy enough power to then reach into Joey's dream, even though Joey showed even less sign of being afraid than Kinkaid did. That's just my take, anyway.

35 years old! Still the most fun entry in the franchise particularly when it comes to the special effects The movie is one of my favorites in the series; a rocking 80s soundtrack, a likable cast of teens, solid pacing, way more creative ways of Freddy slaughtering his victims, plus this is also the birth of Freddy using his infamous one-liners Renny Harlin makes this so much fun to watch plus Robert Englund enjoyed this as his best performance as Freddy The film takes advantage of the surrealism of the landscape of the mind, the imagination, the dreamscape, of an individual victim’s nightmare The death scene involving the cockroach transformation is so grisly and will always stick in my mind; it’s another one of those phobias that turns on the person who has it to full effect Lisa Wilcox makes for a very interesting lead too being she’s a character that’s gaining a trait every time one of her friends dies which will build her strength to face Freddy so she grows in terms of her arc too going from timid and shy to confident and active There’s also a theme of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ next to the philosophy of Aristotle of when you dream your soul walks free although Wilcox’s casting is a bit on the nose This was a rushed production and it was heavily impacted by the writers strike of ‘87 yet Renny Harlin makes for some big action set pieces in a ‘Nightmare’ film that basks in its excess being colorful, inventive, and imaginative It’s like a giant music video given this was the MTV generation ‘Dream Master’ leaves a great impression despite most franchises being so fatigued by so many fourth entries

The windows explode because Alice picked up Joey's dream power - supersonic screaming - as well as the others'. Remember when Kristin sends her power to Alice, it goes through Freddy? It's likely Joey and Kincaid managed to add theirs into the mix; just before Alice goes into the Dreamworld for the final showdown, she looks at herself in the mirror and repeats Kincaid's line from his nightmare: "Fuckin' A". To a certain extent, she can use dream powers in the real world, like when she tries out Rick's nunchuk in front of the mirror.

About Joey talking, it's not that big of a stretch. In the previous movie, he was a traumatized, suicidal kid locked in an institution... maybe his muteness was just psychological, and was "cured" by his dreaming he could talk? Off the top of my head, I can't recall any line from The Dream Warriors stating otherwise, so I'll go with that explanation. :)

Apparently Freddy is actually a representation of the Greek god of nightmares Phobetor. While Alice is a representation of Phantasos who is known as the god of fantasy (good dreams). Which would make her primary ability to using a good half of their dreams aka their fantasies while at the end using her own dream power through the rhyme in the mirror chunk to end Krueger. The dream powers are representations of using fantasy to release your ideal self in order to fight the nightmare.

A little late to the party on this, but Alice daydreaming that Rick is still alive is very important to the plot. This is the point where Alice decides to stop living in her fantasies and take action. Her last line before Rick goes back into the coffin is, "No more daydreams." It's a defining moment for her as she has always retreated into her own world rather than solving her problems.

Joey wasn’t always mute. When he was introduced to Nancy in Part 3 we learned that before being institutionalized he was the captain of the debate team at school. His inability to talk was psychosomatic, brought on by the trauma of his nightmares. After defeating Freddy at the end of Part 3 he was able to speak again in the real world because the source of his fear (Freddy) was no longer a problem (at least as far as he knew). Kirsten’s ability to pull people into her dreams wasn’t a “dream power”, at least not in the same sense as her acrobatics was. It was a power that she herself possessed. That whole “power sharing thing”? Yeah that’s something totally new written just for this movie. One theory of why Freddy is so connected to Nancy’s house is that the abusive couple who adopted him as a child lived there, so he grew up being abused in that house. Which is why he targeted children who lived on Elm Street while he was alive. I haven’t been able to find any sources to confirm this, but it does make sense psychologically.
@GimpEMCo-14 жыл бұрын
Al.so remember that Nancy's mom had brought his glove there and kept it in the furnace.
@johnschou21723 жыл бұрын
I actually have a theory regarding the “power sharing thing.” Remember how Kristen said she would put Nancy in a “beautiful dream” to keep her from dying? A scrapped scene from the Dream Warriors script was her telling Doc Gordon that she sees her every night. So perhaps between the movies, Nancy trained Kristen to hone her powers in the event Freddy would return. My rationale for that part is that since her spirit is in the Dream world, it was attuned to it, allowing her to essentially “sense a great disturbance in the force” if you will.
@jadeandjesse59085 жыл бұрын
I don't think Joey talking in the real world is so much a plot hole because Jennifer said during Dream Warriors that Joey used to be on his high school debate team but didn't talk "anymore". Taking into consideration the teardrop Joey drew under his own eye at the start we can assume that he became mute through trauma (possibly accidentally killing someone) instead of being physiologically disabled. So I always assumed that after Joey found his dream power in part 3 he found the power to talk again in reality, afterall Joey doesn't have the chance to get any lines after they all wake up at the end of 3 so it's kind of up in the air.
@Doctor_Odin5 жыл бұрын
Psychological induced elective mutism. Is essentially what it is considering classic Freddy fucked with you. which I could see him turn someone's beloved Gift of Gab against them in his dreams. Which does explain his dream power during the climax since the dream abilities are based on their ideal selves. Hence Kincaid's power of super strength he has insecurity issues.

The dogs piss broke the seal the rest is Kincaid Joey and Kirsten fear. Essentially the dog piss allowed him to come back as a ghost but their initial fears and acknowledgement allowed him to retain his demonic powers. Without those three he'd be just a Poltergeist like he was in number two largely. Half-hearted plot synopsis without Kirsten giving Alice her power Freddy's Revenge contract would have ended with Alice and Kirsten.

@Icarus Kid I'd add a New Nightmare to that list as well. While the more cerebral writing solid get a bit trippy at times, I personally think that's one of the best of the series.
@raptoid25184 жыл бұрын
@Icarus Kid That's perfectly fair. I didn't think the makeup was THAT bad, but then again I am comparing it to movies with truly terrible make up, so I might be a bit biassed in regard. I can't agree that the tone of the movie very much is a late nineties slasher film but I can say that among them I prefer NN to many of its contemporaries. And I will give you that the soundtrack was, let's say rather boring. Again, not necessarily horrible, but definitely a let down for how good the rest of the film was. I do think that, aside from the makeup, the new look for Friday was a great idea because it made him look imposing and dangerous and I do think that shying away from more silly aspects while still keeping that snark was a good idea.As for the rest of them, I can agree for most of it. When and 3 are definitely the best of the bunch, 2 is a good in a horror movie but not a very good Nightmare on Elm Street movie, 4 and 5 arts and still pretty good but nowhere near as good as the previous 3, Freddy's Dead is just popcorn entertainment. Freddy vs Jason is just a ton of fun to watch. It isn't some amazing horror movie that makes you think, but it's a slasher crossover film that ticks all the boxes for making an extremely enjoyable watch. The remake somehow manages to be doomed to be more of a product of its time than any of the previous movies. You take one look at any scene from that movie and you could instantly tell that it was a mid 2000s movie due to the overly dark and gritty atmosphere as well as the cepia tone that everything used. You could make a debate for not being the single worst one, but that's not necessarily a point in its favour.

A fair few people out there, hate this movie while other's don't. Some say it's not a good sequel to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd movies in the franchise. I feel as though the 4th film is great, but not as great as the 3rd film. The 3rd film has great characters and so does the 4th, Freddy Krueger may be less darker than what he was in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd, but he's still a sadistic evil dream demon who we can't deny but love for being so different from the other 80's villains at the time! slashing innocence while it sleeps, figuring out ways to manipulate and lure his victims in their dreams to their WORST Nightmare! Freddy was different and that's why he's my favourite villain from the 80's... Sadly I can't find any GOOD villains from the 2000s and 2010s. Which for me goes to show that Krueger and Jason Voorhees and Pinhead and other classic iconic villains of the 80's MAY never come back, we may have to wait a VERY long time for another classic to role through that door and make horror history like Krueger and Voorhees and many of the other greats did prior. Just hear me out, 80's horror villains had heart, they had heart while the newer ones seem to be more prone to jump-scaring you and making loud noises for the sake of "Scaring" the audience, that's not heart, that's just a quick jump-scare to scare the audience...

Actually my personal favorite in the franchise. Alice is probably my favorite protagonist introduced so far (come on you know they ain't done making these movies). Just kinda liked everything about it.
@SeekerLancer6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I always hear, "1 and 3 are the only good ones," but for me, 1, 3 and 4 always formed a sort of trilogy.
@Nightman221k6 жыл бұрын
I love this movie best too. I love that Alice's friend group all seem genuinely likable and I like how even when they aren't dropping like flies you see that they care about each other (Sheila makes the thing to keep bugs away from Debbie and Debbie cries about Sheila dying and laments that she never got to be a doctor. Alice's Brother is kind and protective of Alice and Kristen and tries to help Alice learn karate). I actually feel sad when they all die and feel a lot of catharsis when their souls are freed. And it's a big thing for a horror movie to actually make the slaughtered victims LIKABLE. Most of the time the movie tries to justify why the victims deserve death.
@GlitchyHalo Жыл бұрын
@@Nightman221kwish we got to see Debbie and Rick’s irl deaths as Shelia died from an asthma attack irl I imagine Debbie got crushed by her dumbbell and Rick just died in his sleep like Kincaid as they both got impaled by Freddy’s glove

I love this movie, along with The Dream Child and Dream Warriors. The 3 Dream titled movies about my favorite from the series! Everyone loves Dream Warriors, but Nightmare 4 is underrated, Nightmare 5, i can understand that people think its too silly and stupid.

+Emissary toxin cool, it's fine if you've seen me around often ive actually been getting that alot lately. So my favorite Jason movie? Hmm i used to say Freddy vs Jason but now im starting to change my mind. I would either go with Part III, Jason Lives, or Jason Takes Manhattan. Still trying to find a way for my mind to see which is it's favorite.

I think the only cool thing about most of these subpar Nightmare on Elm Street movies are the dream sequences and set designs and OCCASIONAL one-liners by Freddy. Other than that, they're SO cheesy and inconsistent.

The era of karate movies in the 1980s clearly inspired the producers of this movie, such fond memories as a kid seeing re-runs of karate movies on tv. Inspired me to lose weight, gain muscle and learn to fight as a teen.

I think that Freddy was able to come back because he still had the souls inside of him. They kept him alive while he used Kristen's fear to build his power back. The flaming dog part was pretty ridiculous; the dog barking and the grave opening would have sufficed. I think it would be cool if Nancy was training Kristen to become the dream master by honing her group-invite power so much that she could actually connect with their souls. Perhaps Alice could have used that power to exorcise the souls out of Freddy and then bring them back to life.
@TallSilentGuy4 жыл бұрын
3:43 It's a little known fact that Alice's father once scored four touchdowns in one game. 21:18 I had no idea you could rip open someone's elbows just by bending them the way they are naturally supposed to bend. Dreamland rules, I suppose.
