I keep OTC (over-the-counter) meds in a clear zipper bag in an upper cabinet, so I'm checking expiration dates every time I get into it. Prescriptions are kept in a large duffel bag in my kitchen, which I empty out to fill my pill boxes every week. Everything in the duffel comes out and is reloaded on pill-refill day, which is when I reorder any Rx necessary, as well as adding needed OTC items to my shopping list, along with a photo of the front label (for better clarity). When you take a lot of meds on a regular basis, it's really important to stay on top of things. ALSO, I keep a list of meds with name, dose, reason for use, time of day, and prescriber on my computer. It's easy to print off a copy before I head to an appointment, hand it off when I get there, and update any changes ASAP when I get home.

I can relate to how you react when one of your kids get hurt. I was an RN at a trauma center and saw a lot of weird stuff and dealt with it. But when my oldest son was 9 or 10 he was fooling around with scissors and cut the top of his finger off. I totally freaked out! He suggested a towel and asked if his hand should be above his heart. I got him to urgent care and the nurse put me in a wheelchair because she was afraid I was going to faint. She said I was as white as the sheet of paper I was given. Where as my son did fine while he was stitched up. I couldn’t even watch. We are moms first, Cas.

Scrapes? Wash thoroughly, bandage, give kisses and move on. Etc.

I think we must be related. That's EXACTLY how I react, at least that's what my husband says. On the other hand, when my husband sees blood, he faints. One time, he was on a step ladder fixing something and cut a gash in his hand, he looked at it, fainted and fell off the ladder. I got him into the bathroom and while he was sitting on the toilet, he looked at his hand and fainted again, slid off the toilet. Then I managed to get him back up on the toilet and put a washrag on it but when he saw more blood, he passed back out. I made him stay on the floor until I could clean and wrap the wound. I was afraid he was going to get a concussion from falling and hitting his head so much. Luckily, we don't have kids...just fur babies.

My parents were borderline hoarders and I have tried to keep myself in check there, but definitely have the hoarding gene. I relate to your medical obsession as I have one too. My husband jokes that I’m getting my medical degree from watching medical shows on tv. I love trying to make a diagnosis and figure out the next step ,before it’s announced . I worked as a veterinary nurse for a couple of years and it was my favourite job ever! I have undiagnosed ADHD but I’m great in an emergency, if I do say myself. I remain calm. I tell people what they have to do, I perform first aid, I ask for help if I don’t know , get an ambulance , or get someone to the help they need THEN I fall apart. Usually a big ugly cry , a headache and I feel spent! I am the person people call for advice when they aren’t well, but I’m not so great at giving myself advice. It’s a case of- Take my advice, I’m not using it.

I'm a nurse. A pediatric nurse for 8 years. I still get the heebie jeebies and goose bumps and jump to the worst case scenario when one of my kids get hurt! 😆 Thankfully my husband is pretty level headed. 😅

Make sure you check with your local pharmacy *before* taking your expired meds to them! I work at a pharmacy that can’t take them back. We have to send people to the local police station.

It's true, they don't all provide that service. You can find locations by searching FDA Drug Disposal.

I have a 3 drawer organizer in my hall pantry and one drawer holds toothpaste, one holds adult toothbrush and one hold child toothbrushes . They are labeled and I remove toothpaste from boxes . Set up about 3 plus years ago and been working great 😊

I’m the same way when my kids get hurt 😅. My husband was the one to take them to emergencies or take over if he was near !

Hey Mama Bear,🐻💕 its ok to react they way you do when it comes to your loved ones, especially the kiddos! We are 7 kids in my family, and my dad always worried that we would fall and hurt ourselves. It's the same thing with anger. I'm allowed to be angry with my loved ones, but if anyone else is, mother wolf comes out for protection!🐺❤

I got the tip out garage bins from container store, spendy but my husband and I are both visual people and I want to be able to quickly see what we have and find it quick esp when I'm nauseous from a migraine I don't have time to rummage through an entire bin. each major med or type has it's own little drawer. Game changer! There's also a little card holder on each bin that you can slip the exp dates/label etc

Staying calm in a family emergency is being a good example for our children and grandchildren, which helps them stay calm, too. Fall apart later, if you must, Clutterbugs! Once, I was called to daycare when my daughter fell off a retaining wall, which caused a gash on her chin that, of course, she couldn’t see. I remained calm, so she remained calm and didn’t cry. I met my mother-in-law at home so that she could watch my younger daughter while I took the oldest to the emergency room. One look at her, and my mother-in-law said something like “Oh, you poor thing!” in a pathetic voice, and my daughter broke down and cried! Adults have such an influence on children because children look up to us so much and trust us. They figure, “If an adult acts this way, it must be very bad!” and will react accordingly.
