I love the look of empty spaces. I never feel the need to go get something new to fill it. My husband sees a newly empty space and sees a new place to fill with his stuff.

I know what you mean, I'm the same way as you, I love the peacefulness of a clean clear room. My parents and brother on the other hand are extreme packrats. It took about 40 years for my mom to get the back porch cleared off but within no time at all she filled that empty space right back up with more junk. Half the junk that was the porch to begin with is in the garage with all the other junk that's been collected over the years. She said when she's gone, my brother and I are going to have fun going through all that stuff. My brother and I already said to each that won't be a problem. Whatever he wants he can put in his barn and I'm donating the rest.

I have lived in my home for 4 years and we inherited a lot of things that we accepted when we first moved in. We were lucky because it was all sorts from gardening tools, to a bed and sofa to kitchen stuff. It was a god send BUT with all the useful stuff came unused stuff. This year I have taken the chance to ask myself what we really need to keep and get rid of anything else. Its bliss to not feel the silent to do list all around the home. It has helped us see what the more pressing to dos are... like actually decorating the house! There is definitely more to go but I don't beat myself up about it anymore. Bit by bit it will go if its not needed :-)

My decluttering has never had the stumbling block of me taking the things out of my house. I have the issue of my family bringing more in once there’s space from me decluttering. I have gotten my home to a wonderful place where everything was easy to keep clean and tidy, but I’m back to a place where all my corners are cluttered with piles to deal with. And I’m totally overwhelmed by all the things I need to get done in my home! All of the home related things fall on me (chores, repairs, maintenance, management, child rearing, holiday planning, cooking/meal planning, and anything else you can think of besides going to a job and bringing in an income), and we have 5 kids and a ton of things that need fixing in our house. I’m barely keeping my head above water with all the things/people/places that I’m responsible for.

Maybe you can involve your family more in the tasks? Just an idea but you could sit down together every Sunday, write down 6 things that need to be done within the next week (chore, errand, small repair, making an appointment, ...) on separate pieces of paper, fold them up and everyone picks one. Try to make it a family thing.

My rule of thumb is to ignore all the sales going on unless it's actually something I need right now and not something I could use later on and this keeps my clutter headache to a minimum. Every time I hear a sales commercial enticing you to shop and save X percent of money, I always say to myself I'm saving 100% because I'm not buying it. When I'm done with something, usually it's worn out so it's going in the trash, so I don't worry about it going to a good home or not because I've gotten my use out of it. For the items I donate, I don't worry about it going to a good home or not because eventually it's going to end up in the trash also. I really don't have a clutter problem because if I don't need it, I don't buy it and when I'm done with it, it either goes in the trash or it's donated.

Maybe try to recycle the worn-out stuff rather than trashing it. Where I live we can recycle paper, cardboard , metal, plastic, batteries, electronics, old clothes (material), garden rubbish, glass... Yes you have to research where to take it and then take it there.. But it is so much better than putting it all in bin for landfill. 🤗

@@JohnFourtyTwo in my reply, I wrote a list of things that can be recycled that are what you consider to be "rubbish" .. Ie what has absolutely NO use to anyone anymore! ... That stuff can be recycled.. Eg old ripped, worn clothes... You can take that to a materials recycle bank. There are companies that recycle it (break it down to its fibers) and make new things eg clothes. Plastic rubbish is recycled to new bottles or wool to make clothes or new plastic products etc. Glass is melted to make new bottles. Electronics are taken apart and the parts are recycled eg copper wires among others. I am not talking about stuff that can be used still by someone which of course can be donated or sold.

@@JohnFourtyTwo that's great👍. I just though you didn't understand what I wrote in my first response .. I am also a minimalist and use things until they are broken and are "no use to anyone".. But I hate putting things in my "normal house rubbish" which lands in landfill or an incinerator.. At least in Germany (where I live at present).. They pick up our organic rubbish, paper/cardboard, plastics and metal from your home (as well as your normal house rubbish) . But glass, electrics, clothes for recycle to make fibers for new clothes, plastic bottles, batteries, furniture and donate stuff we bring to the recycle depot .. But I love to challenge myself to recycle 90‰ of "my rubbish". There is satisfaction in not using the "normal rubbish bin".... Which is Germany they call "the rest rubbish bin" 😊.

I have rearrange, declutter, organize serval times and I still have a hard time finding something or think is super messy that it is stressful to even craft. The thing is with craft supplies, for me, seems a waste to get rid of when I can use it for a project. Trouble is finding all the things you need for a project to finish it. Also a side not as much I think my room is messy and unorganized, everyone else says its the opposite lol Been working on it for so long and many different ways and tips I'm just at a lost what to do next, that I just want to fix the rest of my house lol

I think that you might be right: your craft room (I am envious! A whole room!) is clearly problematic. It might be helpful to try another area. Closets and kitchens usually could use some TLC. Go there, learn what works and go back to your problematic room with a few new ideas.

Oh Kalia I’ve been there with a similar area. May I offer that thinking that “it’s a waste to get rid of craft supplies when they can be used for a project” appears to be a problem thought for you. If it’s true that it’s a waste and if you value not wasting things, you will have difficulties reducing your supplies to a level that’s manageable and useful for you. You will have difficulty reducing to a level that allows you the mental, physical and creative space to actually work on your craft projects rather than just organise your crafting clutter. It’s possible that the opposite thought is equally true: it’s a waste to keep craft supplies when they can be used for a project.

A lot of it is sitting in quarantine. Laura, you made some comments that were very upsetting to me about a year ago. And it’s coloring how I think of you. It was at the start of the pandemic, and I was very sad. I also noticed how much my face didn’t look like “me” anymore, due to aging. I started watching videos for make up for older women. I started wearing concealer, foundation, blush, and brow cosmetics. When I go to put them on every day, I think when you were saying “stop it!“. I suggest you hold your opinion on cosmetics until you get older. You might want to use them as your brows disappear. You will learn how crucial brows are-they help expression and frame your face. The only thing I can think of is when I talked about natural faces in a video at the beginning of this year. I urged women to stop apologising for their natural appearance. This was not to discourage anyone from wearing cosmetics, but to allow them to see that the 'au naturel' look can and should be embraced also, and that no-one should feel bad (or be made to feel bad) about their natural looks. I hope that clarifies. Or if you are referring to a different comment, please let me know.

It became part of the landscape and after about two months I realized that I hadn't done anything with it and I was on my way out and I was kind of tired of walking around it and so about a week later I put it into the cupboard underneath the sink where I never look. I know it sounds nuts, but at the time I didn't have time because I was leaving and now it's out of my way and I feel slightly better. But not really. I don't comment enough but I always like, and your channel really makes me think... if I create the account on eBay or Poshmark or whatever FIRST, maybe it would be easier than to wait until the time. I was waiting until I had time to photo the thing and list It. So, like you said it was too big. First step should be to create the account.( I would love any comment/opinion which resale site anyone likes most) I always feel like a loser whenever I realize how bad I am at this. Then when I hear the way you talk about it and give solutions, I realize I am not. I sure feel better whenever I'm not cluttered. I think we all do

Love your pantry, but why do you store so many of same items? Snacks for children in house? That takes up so much space.

Me too. I have had modest success with creating homes for stuff where i tend to drop it. Still need to tidy it frequently, and declutter from time to time.

You would pass out if you saw my pantry then. We have 6 people and a walk in pantry. I bulk buy cereal every two or three weeks. We have a huge stash and it does not last very long. It works for us. We also go through about 4 gallons of milk every week.

I know what you mean plus I haven't eaten cereal since I was a kid. My brother and I had different tastes but we had to finish the current box before getting a different one. After growing up and living on my own, I still don't eat cereal but I always keep a container of grits and oatmeal around which is a lot healthier for you than those cereals.
