Ringo does here one of his greatest contributions to drumming: the drums grows and gets bigger, louder, complete and busier as the song walks to its end. He did that a lot: in the beginning, theres not even a hi-hat making a pattern (except the open hi-hat when he hits the snare). That hi-hat will only appear later. He did that in a lot of songs, like in "something" and "while my guitar gently weeps". Its a very intelligent and creative way to play the drums, adding to the song as it grows, bringing something new in each part of it. Besides, here we can hear some very strange and hard to replicate drum fills. His drum fills were always like that so strange and unique.

His fill came from his being a leftie and playing a right-y kit. This drum part actually sounds harder than it is because of the "unorthodox" riff and chord progression.

Being a Houstonian, from Texas...I always took pride in knowing Billy Preston, (who is from Houston), played on several of The Beatles tracks. His playing is always so superb, (I still get goosebumps, when hearing his 'Don't Let Me Down', contribution). One could even make the argument Preston could be called, 'The Fifth Beatle', (even though I believe that moniker belongs to George Martin), But imagine my dismay when I heard about Preston's indiscretions. I won't say what he is accused of, (you can research it yourself and make your own judgment), but if true...it is a real let down. As Ringo once said, "Billy never put his fingers in the wrong place". Well...maybe once he did. Sadly.

George Martin was a part of their whole (commercial) career. When the boys wanted to do something, they asked him how. They wouldn't have been able to pull off any of that without him. They learned from him, therefore his influence is the greatest on their music and overall sound. Preston was there for half an album. Obviously, Let it Be would'nt be the same without him, but I wouldn't call him a fifth Beatle. More of an honorary Beatle. Lots of different people contributed to making Beatles records. We don't call the orchestra the fifth Beatle. But, I will say, without Billy there to lift their spirits and inject something fresh into them, they don't get through those sessions without him. His presence is felt and he deserves praise for his contributions. But, Martin, to me, is more intricately tied into them than anyone else.

Wow is that Fender Rhodes piano out of tune? Either that or it's fighting against something. Bed news either way. Totally superflous and anyway pedestrian playing. Could be mixed right out and the guitars can easily carry it to better effect.

Which just proves that a great song does not depend on great bass playing. Just ok is fine....
