How do you go about running the perimeter of a job or a tumbler in ruby? (Having the laser dot trace around the image to see where the laser will put it) I do this a lot to double check alignment to make sure it’s where I want before I run the job with other lasers and it doesn’t seem to be an option in ruby?

Unfortunately, the Ruby software does not have an outline perimeter feature like this; the best method for alignment is to use the 3D simulation to showcase the image on the diameter and the red pointer to determine the center starting point. For detailed Ruby training, go to our customer portal at www.mytrotec.com and select "training" for the specifics in Ruby you are interested in learning, or reach out to our support team for additional help in the portal.

@@TrotecLaser is this a feature that will be added to ruby at any point? It seems to be that it used to be in job control? Does this apply to other engraving projects? I have used other lasers before and generally I find the best way to find perfect alignment on odd shaped items is to use the trace perimeters option to make sure things go where I want them to. I presume a work around for this is to run a 0% power vector over the area to make sure things are where you want them? This is extremely useful for one offs or odd ball shapes that are not cut out of sheets. Obviously it doesn’t matter much for cutting out of a sheet but I think it’s a valuable tool that is probably not that much extra work to do.

Yes, you can run at 0% power on color as a workaround; I am unsure if there is any plan to add this feature to Ruby. If you select the main drop-down menu in the Ruby software and then select "Ideas," you can request they add features like this.

Love your videos! I would love to see the more advanced subject of the very popular full-wrap seamless tumblers that require precise beginning and end points that meet in the same place. .On Stanley tumblers, the handle is taken off. I know how to do this using Lightburn and a PiBurn rotary, but can't seem to get it to work on Trotec Ruby.

Is the procedure different for Job Control instead of Ruby?

Yes, this procedure would be different in Job Control.

Hi Dave…the question I have is how to you line up a cup such as a Yeti? With Job Control we were simply able to place an F8 in the middle of the Yeti logo. Then we line up our logo where we want it on the cup. When we place cup in the rotary we we line up the red light pointer with our F8 in the middle of the Yeti logo. This is our start position and allows us to be consistent with every cup in the run. In Ruby, the start position always straddles the middle red line. We can use an F8 for the starting position, but when the rotary moves to engrave the logo, it does half, then rotates completely around and does the second half. This extra rotation can cause huge issues (slippage, or the logo doesn’t line up properly. We would really like to use Ruby with rotary, but for this reason continue to use job control. How can we do this in Ruby?

Hey Ron ....Regarding lining up a cup like a Yeti with Ruby, the process isn't too different from what you're used to with Job Control. Here's how to do it: Similar to how you line up the mug handle in the video, use the same technique to identify your logo on the Yeti cup. Draw a red outline around your logo, just like I did for the mug handle in the video. To prevent the rotary from turning mid-job, make sure to rotate the rotary to the 'stop location' before starting. This will be your starting point and will ensure that the rotary doesn't rotate part-way through the job. A new Ruby version will be released very next week that will offer enhancements to the rotary smoother for you in Ruby.

Hi dave, I would like to ask on the maintenace for our speedy 100 machine. We have to cut hundreds of 10mm eva sponge that is stick with velvet/double suede (with spray adhesive on it). Do you have some maintenance tips for our laser machine? As eva sponge left us sticky dust after cutting it.

PS: our eva sponge is like hard rubber that leaves some black residue after cutting it

If you're working with dirty material like this, it's crucial to look after your machine properly. This means: -Always check the laser parts controlling light (like the mirrors and lenses), ensuring they stay clean. -Make sure to clean the tracks that the laser moves on every few rounds of material. -Keep the area around your laser free from bits of material or any mess. Doing these steps regularly will keep your laser working well, with dirty materials.
