@dubious dom i play alot of deep half! one thing I find on most people who try to perform this step over style pass is that they are typically base weak to my back side in this demo ukes right hand side, from there I typically when they go for the under hook use my right over hook or left hand on their left sleeve if I can prevent the under hook to pull their shoulder down and bump them onto their back side and end up coming up into a over/under style pass on them. so my question is this.... what in this pass prevents the dipset style (push/pull sweep) motion to the backside dropping you on your back as your arm is tied up with the under hook and your hips firmly planted on top of your opponents hips? i understand once your hips cross their center line your fine but in the transition what are you looking for to not get rocked backward?

Dom, no joke, I was thinking this morning that I need to study up on passing and dealing with deep half. A new training partner of mine has a good deep half. Thank you!!!

I received that thought telepathically and posted the video so you can tap your friend. Oss

i wonder though, how does the guy on the bottom counter this when the guy on top bends and places his knee on the mat

Great technique and simple for a situation that can be a trap, especially when you're facing a good deep half guard player.

Agreed, it's a very tricky position to navigate. I actually learned the counters to this pass when competing against a very good deep half player and was caught off guard. He didn't sweep me, but he damn sure surprised me haha

A guy I used to dominate showed up today and dismantled me with his new and improved deep half. This will help me exact revenge.

At :44 sec you say "this can get really bad" (if your thigh is inside his legs). What are the options for the guy on bottom?
@DubiousDom3 жыл бұрын
Good question! If the knee gets trapped inside, the bottom player can create a lockdown type connection with their legs on your trapped leg and completely immobilize you. After that, they can pass your other leg to the other side of their head and tilt you backwards. From their they can release the position and pass, or tap you with the knee torque. Think of the move Eddie Bravo did on Royler in their rematch, it's very similar.

When you lean forward he's going out the back door which is a fundamental part of deep half. This "pass" is a good way to get your back taken.
@forwardgrappling4 ай бұрын
he can't get to the back because of the underhook
@jordanturner78214 ай бұрын
@@forwardgrappling maybe gi related. i only do no gi, but that underhook on the far side never happens because we dont grab the belt or hug the top leg ever. if youre even vaguely in that position from the start youre just gone.
