For what it is worth, I worked in Broadcast TV for quite a while. You mentioned several times that the news network just sort of gets back to the business at hand. Well, yes. That's the job. Regardless of what crisis may be happening, we are supposed to get that info to the public. Do news organizations also frequently sensationalize things and beat things into the ground? Sadly, yes. But it is part of the job to keep the public informed even if we personally are also experience said crisis. There have been many times I was at work doing that very thing even though I would have rather been with my family. People are so used to instant info from multiple mediums now. There was a time when information was harder to come by and network news was important for people to be aware of what is happening and to make informed decisions. Appreciate the reaction, by the way. Looking forward to watching others.

That said, I appreciate that in the film it was a joint effort between Russia and the U.S., especially since it came out less than a decade after the Cold War wound down.

Of course it’s completely hypothetical but I would say that the infant would be raised knowing that Sarah is their sister and they would be told all about the parents that died. Of course the child would be raised by their sister and her husband (and probably her husband’s parents) acting in loco parentis but the world would be in such flux that unusual circumstances would be the norm for the next few generations

What a treat! Almost no one reacts to this one. "Armageddon" is on cable it seems like every other week. This one hasn't been on TV for a couple years. There was a lot of smack-talking and action-movie antics in "Armageddon," but I found this one much more appealing. It dealt with people, families, and facing death...heroism. And it wasn't the least bit comedic. It was a serious take on this type of scenario, so, when a reactor does this one, I'm jumping at the chance to watch it. So this was very enjoyable. I don't know if you pay attention to this, but I feel music is extremely important in conveying emotion in movies, and one of the best ever composers did this one: James Horner (Titanic, Aliens, Field of Dreams). Did you notice how much the music really imparted the sense of sadness? Finally, thanks for letting the movie affect you, without joking your way through it, which is what some reactors do. Cheers! :)

You've got to ignore the idea that the comet was first spotted by a bunch of amateurs with small telescopes; by the time it was bright enough for them to see it would have been spotted by one of the many near-earth asteroid surveys and had its orbit and chances of hitting earth calculated long ago. The path of the comet wouldn't need to be altered by much to turn a hit into a near miss. The earth travels a distance equal to its diameter along its orbit in 7 minutes, so if you spot a threat several months out you only need a tiny change to make it cross earth's orbit a few minutes earlier or later. Outgassing from the comet as it approached the sun could easily do that, or it could turn a near miss into a hit; there's no way to know exactly what's going to happen. NASA's DART mission has demonstrated that we can alter the orbit of an object much smaller (160 metre diameter) than the comet in the movie; hopefully development of this technology will continue.

Agreed. I have science background and have kept abreast of space technology... it's one reason I like this one more than Armageddon (even though that one is fun and Bruce Willis rocks). So deep do I hope that we keep expanding forcefully into space... Do people remember that we only have so much Iron and Nickel and Copper and such-like minerals within practical reach of our drilling and mining? The amount of material in your small-to-average-sized Nickle-Iron meteoroid is about 100 times what you think... we NEED to be able to access the resources that are off-Earth, because we keep using things we do have ready access to. Just FYI.

As far as the comet look is concerned, the reason it looks like that is because the comet is basically, just a mega gigantic dirty snowball in space. The closer it gets to our sun the radiation from it heats it up, and that is what the "tail" is made of. Water particles, dirt and the locational rock. Sorry about the technical talk, just a BA in astronomy here. Always wanted to be a part of NASA working in space, but the odds were stacked against me.,

Have you seen "These Final Hours"? I thought of it with a few comments you made, it's a disaster movie set in Australia, and is less about "astronauts/government saves the day", and follows an average joe in Perth, just after the first comet has hit in the north atlantic and aussies are basically on a countdown waiting for the subsequent global firestorm to reach us - literally earth's "final hours". I discovered it by accident and it's one of the best disaster movies I've seen, and I've seen a lot.

6:02 Enjoyed your accurate take on the duality of journalism (typically investigative, with a goal of helping the public fight corruption, is the far better endeavor than the exploitative/sensationalist/click bait approach that has been steadily increasing since the 1970s [taking big leaps in the early ‘90s with budgetary changes requiring news departments to compete with entertainment departments for budget and the O.J. Simpson trial, the rise of the talking heads panel opinion approach to reporting news in the ‘90s/2000s, and the increased pressure to be first [fact checking be damned] with the rise of social media). 25:24 Many iconic U.S. cities are port cities or near port cities (like in Australia), at least those that are portrayed in Hollywood films the most (with the notable exceptions of Las Vegas and Chicago). The middle of the U.S. has more people than Australia but doesn’t often get covered in disaster movies (with the notable exception of The Day After 1983 made for TV movie that was historic [read the Reception section of its Wikipedia page]). 29:56 Too true about the Statue of Liberty! And this was an interesting take on a potential extinction level tsunami event considering it had been about 30 years since the last really big tsunamis hit in Alaska and Hawaii in the U.S. and Chile in the 1960s and it was 6 years prior to the devastating 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. 32:01 AMERICA!!🇺🇸😂 33:07 I get enjoying the message of hope from disaster movies (I like either getting survival tips or a cathartic emotional release from the more realistic dramas or going on an action movie blockbuster style thrill ride… this one is more the former with a touch of the latter here and there, particularly at the end).

Oops, just realized I accidentally left out some words… that the middle of the U.S. has more people THAN THE MIDDLE OF Australia (critical omission of a phrase there and obvious reasons as to the difference with desert while parts of the middle of the U.S. also are less populated due to the terrain, there are areas with temperate climate that are more densely populated).

I chose the relative quiet of "Deep Impact" and saw the "E.L.E." blowup as far more interesting than "The Abyss' in Space" approach of "Armageddon. What sealed it for me was Morgan Freeman as "President Tom Beck," who was Exactly Who Was Needed In A Crisis. Nothing like finding out that Homo sapiens' time on Earth has an expiration date.

Recommend you check out The Poseidon Adventure from 1972 and The Towering Inferno from 1974 if you can access copies somewhere (even if it is on your own time off the channel, as some reactors get okay views for them but typically they don’t get as high of a viewer count as more popular modern movies, although The Poseidon Adventure did some higher numbers for Madison K. Thames). I was just the right age for the rebirth of disaster movies that were kicked off by the surprise great ratings for the two part 1990 TV miniseries The Big One: The Great Los Angeles Earthquake. A helpful person named Gordon Burnett uploaded the entire thing on KZbin 10 years ago and it’s still there, with both parts in a single video (some VHS/DVD copies eliminated some of the storylines, but this is the intact original full 3 hour version). It is very realistic and educational but has a lot of slow character and storyline groundwork in the first half that can be tedious with a 1980s pace and acting style. There is also a one minute long TV trailer for it on KZbin to give you a quick taste. If you are curious but don’t have the time for the hour and a half of set up, you can start either 1 hour and 11 minutes in and still get about 40 minutes of context and character introductions or you can start 1 hour, 39 minutes, and 27 seconds in to just get 12 minutes of set up before everything falls apart. The special effects were so good for the time and there were so many quick scenes and cuts (it has maybe the longest nonstop destruction sequence of any disaster movie) that later early 2000s made for TV disaster movies sometimes reused clips from it in their disaster sequences, so it’s worth at least watching it through the 2 hour mark to take in the jaw dropping destruction sequence (or until 2 hours and 17 minutes or so for a little of the aftermath). It’s success likely helped get scriptwriters thinking about disaster scripts, opening the door for a movie like Twister (1996) to get the green light, and that movie’s massive box office success is largely responsible for all disaster movies since… and Twister singlehandedly changed the start of the summer blockbuster season to May. Twister and the Sci Fi disaster movie Independence Day were the two highest grossing films of 1996 (both are worth checking out as fun popcorn flicks if you haven’t seen them yet). There have been some much more realistic and better quality disaster films in the past 15 years, like The Impossible (from 2012 with a child Tom Holland) and Deepwater Horizon (2016), but also lots of wild thrill rides like the one you mentioned, 2012. Would be happy to see you react to more from the genre down the line, but from what I’ve seen on other channels, while the enthusiasts come out in full force to see reactions to these movies, they don’t get as many views over all and may need to be alternated with more popular action/sci fi/fantasy films to keep growing your channel at a good pace.

Well these movies are made in the US but yeah I get what you mean lol. Apparently our egos can't take anyone else saving the day 😂Or you know the world collectively working together to save it's self we need to be the savior because Murica! lol Dude no wonder we're arrogant as hell the propaganda is so infused in our society it's kinda ridiculous at this point 🤣

In a similar vein to this is the movie Greenland. A recent movie with Gerard Butler. It has a very realistic portrayal of Human behaviour when world destruction is imminent. Highly recommend a watch, on or off the channel. :)

The movie Greenland shows a little darker side of humanity during a end of world scenario with an asteroid. And the movie Seeking a Friend for the End of the World shows a more comedic side of the scenario.

Went to the theatre when this came out. We were late so had to sit on the front row. Was so much fun watching it like that with a crowd. If you wanna watch a great Johnny Depp movie i highly suggest Benny and Joon. I think ive requested it before. Lol.. I just want people to enjoy good movies.. 😊

So that was Maximilian Schell who played Téa Leoni's "cheating" Dad. He starred in the very first movie ever released by Walt Disney Studios that DIDN'T have a G rating. It too was a sci-fi movie. Trying to cash in on some of the BOX OFFICE GAZILLIONS generated by the, still in 1979, highest grossing motion picture in history, Star Wars (1977) like every other motion picture and television production company in Hollywood, Disney released The Black Hole in 1979. The movie failed miserably critically and financially but IMHO The Black Hole STILL has one of the most SINISTER and TERRIFYING movie robots ever.

Wow, you found out one of my teen years gems. Not bad.😃 &Well, we did kinda imagine what would happen if this would happen today, it's called "Don't Look Up!" and it's better than this movie imo!😅 &the good knews is that you're gonna be blind, the bad knews is that it's gonna be only for a few days!😅 Shouldn't that be the other way arround? You'd think so, wouldn't you!?🤣🤣 &that's how much you cry for not having a motocycle, a motocycle like your daughter's husband and you'd've lived. lol &if you cry here, you'd pour your soul at the best anime, like Claymore, Demon Slayer or Little Princes Sara. But let's start with the movie Dangal (2016).😊 Then Ben-Hur (1959).🤔 Epic movies.

Hmm interesting. I don’t wanna look too much into it but perhaps it’s related to how each generation is raised. On a general level, my generation was far more nurtured than I think millennials were by their parents? Not too sure.
