People who really love purple can also love all the changes in direction/ sound. I’ve always valued the variety. This album is a gem. Ian Paice’s drumming is just phenomenal as are the whole band. Shame that due to Bolin/Hughes heroin issues their last tour in 77 .... as Jon Lord put it .... “ “consisted of us travelling the world destroying Deep Purple’s reputation wherever we went” (I paraphrase) I saw them on the UK leg in 77. They were fantastic but then imploded shortly after. So many great bands came out of Purple. Gillan, Rainbow, Whitesnake, Paice Ashton Lord. ( The latter providing one of the best gigs I’ve ever attended). Black Country communion. The current line up have a new album which went to number 1 in Germany and Austria. They are still delivering and still a great live band. Looking forward to seeing Glenn Hughes soon.

I am Japanese. I love Deep Purple. I tried to play the guitar, I succeeded Mr. Richie Blackmore, joined, Mr. Tommy Bolin. He passed away early, but as a guitarist he is top notch. And I also love this song. It fits well with the vocal of David Cavadel. It can be evaluated more, it is a masterpiece.

I grew up in California and Tommy Bolin is my all time favorite guitarist. I saw shows from this tour, he was amazing.

@@tyronesharp401 It is a pity that Bolin was absolutely crap with Purple when live on stage. He couldn't even play the riff to Burn properly (I could have done a better job), and his solos in other earlier Deep Purple songs were totally unrecognisable from the originals and were very sloppy to say the least. As Ian Paice said "Tommy Bolin was an amazing guitarist whilst in the studio, but he was hopeless live." I tend to agree with Ian, although I do accept he was reasonable on the Come Taste the Band numbers played live, which you would expect him to be!

Agreed in full! Who cares about Blackmore? He´s was a good guitarist ok, but was so maniac that all of its OLD colleagues wants to see his face not less than a thousand km away! He destroyed all the mood within the band. He destroyed the best Line up of Rainbow just for pleasure! His a fuking egomaniac! Bolin was a much better guitarist! A genious! A pitty he did not survive to give us the pleasure of his wanderful ideas of fusion of hard rock, blues and all else!

Best line up? Bolin could not even play the live songs of so high. Their soils were limited to basic pentatonic licks. Come And Taste The Band has no riff and memorable solos. Even John Lord is out on this album.

I've just watched 4 Deep Purple "live" videos that were all studio versions synced to live footage. Still great songs but definitely not live.

Bolin on Heroin and Hughes on Coke. Wasn’t excactly the brightest times for Deep Purple. The video was recorded when Bolin fell asleep on his left arm while high on Heroin and made some minor damage to the nerves and muscles. Had to rely on barre-chords and tecnically rhythm guitar while Jon Lord had to fill in the leads by keyboard.

When tommy got it right he was unstoppable. Purple chose the right guitarist...the guitarist chose the wrong life style. The bass on this track was played by tommy after Glenn became unwell and flew back to the UK. The backing vocals are David ,tommy and Jon.

My older brother here in Mexico brought home a box with three lps that said (lo mejor de) the best of Deep Purple, was 1977 or 1978 I do not remember exactly, it was a compilation of Mark I, II, III and IV, came this song and many others, but one of my favorites was always comin home (llegando a casa), great memories of this excellent music !!!!!!!!!
