Ian Paice has said that Roger is the closest thing to the perfect pure bass guitarist as you can get, he said he's never seen or played with another bass player who can slot into that groove and hold it for as long as needed, and no other bass player has afforded him as much room to do his thing (drumming) as Rodger. Musicians and people with a high music iq will understand what Ian's meaning here !

It is deserved that Purple is inducted into the hall of fame. A pity that after so many years there are still the egos and personal differences that prevented ALL the Purples.Evans,Simper, Blackmore,Hughes,Coverdale,Turner and the beloved Lord and Bolin deceased may they rest in peace. Nothing prevents everyone from being there, only that Gillan did not want it to happen... I say it from the respect I have for Ian.I would have been nice to see them all playing Smoke and the water.

I saw Purple on 30th Sept 1972 at the (then) Brixton Sundown (now the Academy) in London, just after the release of the "Made in Japan" LP. WHAT a gig! My Brother and I have a long-running dispute about who was the better, Zep or Purple......in my mind, there was no finer band than Purple at that time. I finally decided at that gig, and watching Ian Paice intensely all night night, that I REALLY wanted to play drums - I only achieved that 6 years later, and I'm still rubbish!!!!!!! Cheers guys - thanks for the memories.

Just so people know these two points here: 1) Jon Lord had passed several years before this event and was replaced by Don Airey as Jon wanted Deep Purple to continue on. 2) Ritchie Blackmore was asked to join for this event, but declined when he could not play with the band. If you know this group they have had many incarnations & never rested on the works of any period but continued always to write new material.

It's partly who you know. Paul McCartney says the way he got Ringo Starr (who was already in as one of The Beatles) in as a solo artist too was by getting Bruce Springsteen and Dave Grohl to agree with him he should be in. No one was looking out for Lord the same way. The RRHOF guys themselves are incompetent, it's fairly anarchic.

LongLiveThe70s - I agree. Jon had a friend with money who enabled the band to start, and the first guy he called was Ritchie. As soon as Ritchie Blackmore came on board, it was his band. He came up with the name, and the guitar players who followed him have said that "you can always feel Ritchie looking over your shoulder." Such a shame, as Jon Lord was such a sweet guy and the Hall of Fame induction would have meant the most to him. Ave, Jon Lord! Good job, guys!

These guys are the best. Their longevity and continued artistic vitality are monumentally impressive- the Morse-era albums are better than you think.

Yep, culminating in Whoosh which is truly a great album - stands on its own. Would be great even if you'd never heard Deep Purple before.

A shame without Jon and Ritchie My first heavy metal,12 yes old, machine head, finally had the pleasure of seeing them ,front row ,mark 4 ,in front of Jon against the barrier, most awesome!!!I might be old,56, but we had the best music ever

@Lloyd Bonafide He was playing it as a tribute to Blackmore's version, note for note .....so of course it's boring. Huge upgrade to Satriani, then SM when Blackmore quit cause he couldn't run the band, HIS way. Blackmore's competent, but not exceptional.

@Lloyd Bonafide "that crappy band rainbow". And there's me thinking you were a blackmore fan. His work with rainbow was great during the late 70s and early 80s. His accoustic stuff has some great stuff in it as well.
