I feel like this is one of your simpler creations this year yet I'd argue it's one of your best. Its atmosphere alone really captures the mood.
@raymondo1627 күн бұрын
one of your best.......... i'd agree. the rocks and the diver ALL seem to float free - because: no frame
@gwiazdapioun21277 күн бұрын
I actually love the tiny bubbles which are left in the resin even after the degassing process, they actually help sell the idea that this is water, rather than a perfectly still and smooth chunk of resin.
@raymondo1627 күн бұрын
i thought the same. in fact it would be cool to introduce bubbles, for example as a column above the diver's head. ( sort of like trapped-bubble glass ) ??
@aserta7 күн бұрын
True, but that's just an aesthetic. It's clear down there. Dead still and clear.
@deathwolf547 күн бұрын
to me they look like suspended particulates

I think in this diorama especially. Thinking logically the diver would have an oxygen tank meaning they would be breathing out air.
@capt.peehype7 күн бұрын
You don't want resin bubbles in any type of resin pours as the gasses trapped in those bubbles could make it crack in the future or make it turn yellowish

I dig the choice not to add the light. You have the gap on top so you still get light in the way you initially intended, but the lack of any electronics gives it an elegant simplicity that makes it unique. Another great piece!

I like how you went "Old-School" and scratch built the diver, instead of 3D Printing it. As a sidebar, about the only diver kits I know of are the Heller Frogmen kit, and the frogmen that come with the Monogram UDT Boat - both are in 1/35th scale. Thanks for sharing your skills and imagination, Boylei! 186th Like.

@Dreoni_7 күн бұрын
Easy mistake to make, but we actually usually dive with "air" tanks (21% oxygen). A pure oxygen tank would be deadly at depth. Great work!
@iain.sm.c7 күн бұрын
That's really interesting. Is the other 79% nitrogen?
@Dreoni_7 күн бұрын
@iain.sm.c Yup! For normal air tanks usually they just put regular "air" with a scuba compressor. For more specialized mixes like nitrox they can change the proportion of oxygen/nitrogen (e.g. 32% O2 68% N) or even put some other gases like helium instead of nitrogen
@thomasbraden82427 күн бұрын
Standing it on end totally sells the depth look. Awesome build as usual.

Even though you used acrylic paints on the foam, it was a very good thing to put that ModgePodge on there as a base. That foam will have various gasses in it. So when the resin is added, those gasses would have likely caused a lot of bubbles. Awesome diorama!
@marklindsey41127 күн бұрын
Really love the atmosphere of this build. Very simple in it's way, but all the more moody for it. You were right to not put in a light source - the movement of the light across the rock and diver works so well.

Love this build. FYI - scuba divers don’t pack pure oxygen in their cylinders. It’s typically just compressed air, and if the dive plan is to dive to certain depths, a mixture of helium is added to replace some of the nitrogen to help curb the effects of nitrogen narcosis. An intoxicating effect of breathing large amounts of compressed nitrogen at depths beyond 70m I believe for most people. Divers like this guy shouldn’t be alone, should have a light and 2 backups, and a dive line which would help him relocate to the cave entrance.
