My gpa just got diagnosed with cancer and we use to do this all the time together. Havent been able to do it and he sold the property for funds, really wish i had a group like this to have hunting camp and just enjoy rifle season. Awesome video

Thanks for sharing all your adventures. Btw, a guy taught me to never rest the barrel on the shooting stix/rest, only put the forestock on the rest. Guess it can affect shot? And on a drive, when the deer is running, WHISTLE LOUD to stopem...it'll blow you away, they hit their brakes!

They free float the barrel for that reason. The barrel actually whips when shot. Could effect it a little.

It affects the barrel harmonics and can drastically change your point of impact. Barrels from the factory that aren’t free floated will make contact with the stock at an accuracy node.

I know heat of the moment things can happen but I’ve seen a few times now on THP resting on the gun barrels. Resting on the forend is a much better practice. There’s a reason why decent guns have floating barrels.

Having the barrel resting on the rest is a NO NO ! At that distance it shouldn’t matter but at a distance will throw you WAY OFF target. Always rest the forearm in the rest !

Yep, proper barrels are made to "free float" unless they are modified "bedded" for competitive shooting.

That mis fire can happen if the bolt isn't all the way down. I did the same thing on a bobcat with Hornady ammo. Even left a strike on bullet. I blamed ammo for awhile before I realized it was doing that.

Practice running shots. Weedeater, 2 pullies, 2 Tposts, attach weedeater to one Tpot, attach one pullie to weedeater, 20yds drive other Tpost, attach pullie on Tpost. Use rope to go around pullies, tape balloon or balloons on rope. Start weedeater set your speed and learn your leads from different distances and speed. It's a blast and a great learning tool.

So the first miss I believe was due to having the barrel rested on the y stick the barrels are free floated for a reason when you put pressure on them it throws off the zero of the gun. Just my 2 cents love all you guys videos

That was likely a light primer strike due to the bolt handle not being all the way down. It happens to my Ruger American, and I always constantly check that the bolt handle is down.

Agree 100 percent. Learned it the hard way last year on a buck just like he did. Took me a minute to figure why it misfired but I finally figured it out. Just like you said I’m constantly checking that bolt handle

Steve Rinella would use a bungee cord to keep his bolt handle down. But all things considered, my Ruger American Predator is a flat out shooter. There’s not better rifle for that kind of money. The accuracy is unbelievable.

Just a tip bolt actions are never a good idea on drives go with a semiautomatic or a pump. I have a Remington 7600 pump in 30-06 and absolutely love it

The stock should be resting on the shooting sticks, not the barrel. Resting it on the barrel or placing your finger on top of the barrel effects the harmonics of the barrel and will throw off you bullets at a distance.

Your buddy’s ammo isn’t bad. He needs to send that Ruger American back to Ruger to get the bolt fixed. I have two different rifles with bad bolts. They fixed the and now hey are good to go. Really like you guys shows, good quality programs! Best of luck and Merry Christmas to you all.

Love the videos thanks for sharing great content. Not trying to knock anything or act like I know everything because I don’t, just going off of experience. Don’t lay gun barrels directly on rests or anything, doing so can change the harmonics of the barrel and cause accuracy problems. Also the gun involved with the light primer strike looks like a savage (I could be wrong) but I have had the same issue with a 22-250 and 30-06 but due to the bolt not being completely down. I love my savages to death but I have noticed the bolts are easy to bump up and cause this issue. Like I said I love what you guys are doing just trying to help other hunters improve their craft.

Its a ruger american ranch I have the exact one he has also in 350 legend, that's exactly what happened to me also, bc it's a straightwall round, the bolt wasn't all the way closed.

When you're shooting from any rest... Do not place your barrel on the rest. Place the stock in there and don't touch the barrel. It really effects the barrel harmonics and accuracy. I was a law enforcement sniper for 20 years and have seen this tested many times.

When you use a shooting stick or any sort of "rest" toward the front of the rifle, always support it by the gun's stock, NOT the barrel. Accuracy WILL be negatively affected by resting the rifle by the barrel... especially at longer ranges.

I've actually found when using a monopod I'm more stable with the rest closer to the receiver. Lots of side-to-side instability when it's out near the end of the stock. Spot on about the barrel. Harmonics and all that jazz.

Cramps usually mean your body is dehydrated, carry a couple bottles of water and gatorade with you and refrain from alcohol use the night before a long walking deer drive.
