My respect for taking out the homemade Selfbow! What an accomplishment to hunt successfully with handmade equipment. I pull my hat for that. A miss with a louder recurve bow might have spooked the fawn for good. At this distance a quiet bow is better than a fast bow. You said it.

Sitting in stand right now with my osage/sinew backed longbow right now. Surrounded by turkeys at the moment. Figures...I didn't get a fall turkey tag. Lol still cool to watch them on a small hunting plot in the woods. Glad you got you a nice doe!

It is always very satisfying to harvest food with equipment you make yourself - sadly, bow hunting is illegal here in the UK, one of many reasons why I am looking at property in northern Sweden. I couldn't help but smile at the familiar shakes, after you shot. Your family is blessed with a freezer of deer meat, so the effort was certainly worthwhile 🙂

Roedeer can growle and bark at you. They often growl when you make a good shot, haha. I used the 250 grain 2 bladed on the Sable bull. Flawless performance

Hay Peter have you ever tried mechanical broadheads in a recurve or longbow? like Rage hypodermic?

Here in Denmark you need 40 joules of kinetic energy to hunt Roe deer. Expandable broadheads require 70 joules. Non of my tradbows can deliver that kind of energy. So I prefer 3 bladed fixed blade with cut on contact like the VPA

No special considerations. I’ve been planning to shoot a deer with a selfbow the last 3 years, during the first week of the hunting season. It finally worked out
