What Britain needs to do is stop cutting defence. A 75,000 strong army, 20 warship navy, an air force that can’t protect its own airspace without USAF assistance, doesn’t cut it.

A delegation of authority is NOT the same as a "transfer of power". That distinction is VERY important!! In a delegation of authority, the body that delegated the authority STILL has the ultimate authority. In UK we need to restore the War Maintenance Reserve which has been decimated to levels previously unseen. Restore the RAF lift, Maritime Patrol and fighter capability to pre 1997 levels. Restore the Armoured Brigades to pre 2000 levels, particularly tanks. Restore our surface fleet to pre 1997 levels. An increase to 5% wouldn't scratch that.

UK does not need an armoured force. Britain can do naval and airpower and a mechanized infantry core and that's plenty enough. Tanks don't offer anything over lighter vehicles but more cost.
