Emma is a hero on this subject. She’s completely right about that APPG definition. When James Cleverly was on Politics Live, he was asked why the Conservatives hadn’t signed up to it, as if it should be done by default. The question was asked with a deep frown. The deep frown should be in the direction of those who worked on that definition. Trevor Phillips also got a hard time on the same program regarding “Islamophobia” and his challenges to the word.

An APPG chaired by Anna Soubry - that alone should ring alarm bells! Seriously though, it's about time that other voices are heard that object to the idea that the English language should be modified or redefined to suit a particular political or ideological agenda. Jordan Peterson had the right idea when he dug his heels in with regards changes to Canadian law (Bill-C16) Emma is absolutely correct, there is no need to change our laws. Indeed, should such changes take place they would eradicate English notions of individual liberty, in favour of an imported totalitarian idea.

OMG such gentle tip toeing around the issue, but that's just part of the problem in the authoritarian UK at the moment since free speech was abolished. Here's the long and short of it. Within 15 years max the UK will begin a constant state of low-level war, like Israel, a war of attrition with no armies standing face to face on the battlefield, but you'll suddenly realise you have ten million or more Jack the Rippers. Not only that, but you'll also begin to realise that Salman Rushdie had it easy back in 1989, unless you start spending colossal amounts on a military, and internal security establishment. Of course, the media which marches in lock-step with the global left will downplay all the violence, just as your media doesn't tell you of all the atrocities around the world at the moment, so that you don't connect the dots. But people will know what's going on, just as they do now but can't say anything in defence of their lives and country. And anyone that does try to defend themselves or speak out will be banged up for execution by a Muslim mob in prison (the punishment for criticism of Muslims is death, just like blasphemy), just like they've tried to do multiple times with Tommy Robinson (if you're a clueless middle class socialist feel free to boo now or you might get a frown at your next Waitrose-themed dinner party, darlings).

One of the reasons Arab nations are in the state they are in is because of the inability to discuss Islam honestly. Its stunted political culture is subordinate to its religious culture. They still function with their outdated Ottoman Empire firmware. The only thing unifying the oumma is blind following of the religion and nothing else. ● muslims obey sharia laws. The truth that is so apparent within this discussion is that Islam as a system of religious belief, cultural practice and identity is totalitarian in nature and scope. In this way it absolutely can not co-exist with, or be intregrated into alternative religious beleifs, cultural practices and identities. Consequently, in order to protect, preserve and promote itself within any cultural context it can not be reconciled with, then it seeks a priviliged status. In the context of Western secular societies this naturally entails a privileged legal status. Its totally ironic that the promoters of Islam in Western societies, will happily hide behind Western legal concepts such as hate crime laws, human rights and civil liberties to claim protection for itself yet deny those same legal protections to those that have the courage to scrutinise and criticise it by nullifying them in an all embracing definition of Islamophobia. However, logically only such a wide ranging definition of Islamophobia that the APPG is proposing could accommodate the cultural totality that Islam as lived and practiced actually is. This definition, and with it the ultimate nullification of Western cultural values and individual legal rights, should be resisted at all costs and therefore so should the creeping, incremental, fabian like Islamification of Western societies.

A really good and necessary discussion. It would be good to see additional discussion around some of the reasons for the concerns about Islamophobia. It is necessary to consider the long history of sensitivity to slights in Islam which indeed appears to stem from Mohammed himself. Much of the Quran can be read as Mohammed going ballistic when people laughed at his ridiculous claims, or mocked him. So any discussion of Islamophobia needs to understand this to understand why the debates are so fractious. It also seems to me that another reason is simply that there are just so many grounds upon which to criticise Islam: the character of its founder; its ethics; its views on women, gays, slavery; its bloody history; its view of the place of humans in the universe which is perhaps the Lynch pin of many of its flaws - human beings, capable of independent thought, creativity, will power, rationality, one might suppose, are nonetheless all to be totally submissive to the arbitrary whims of a supposed deity who 'hates' half of creation and one of whose names is 'the best of deceivers'. So no wonder some consider that there's an onslaught of criticism against Islam. There jolly well should be.

‘Islamophobia’, the projection of an obsession I’d like to spend a few words on a unique and astonishing phenomenon, a mental disorder that appears to have spread like a pandemic among Westerners and non-Muslims: Islamophobia. Let’s try to define the term phobia. John Hopkins Medicine: A phobia is an uncontrollable, irrational, and lasting fear of a certain object, situation, or activity. This fear can be so overwhelming that a person may go to great lengths to avoid the source of this fear. One response can be a pan-ic attack. This is a sudden, intense fear that lasts for several minutes. It happens when there is no real danger. Medline Plus: A phobia is a type of anxiety disorder. It is a strong, irrational fear of something that poses little or no real danger. The free Dictionary: A phobia is an intense, but unrealistic fear that can interfere with the ability to socialize, work or go about everyday life brought on by an ob-ject, event or situation. Phobias belong to a large group of mental problems known as anxiety disorders that in-clude obsessive-compulsive-disorder (OCD), panic disorder and post traumatic distress dis-order. Harvard health Publishing: A phobia is a persistent, excessive, unrealistic fear of an object, person, animal, activity or situation. It is a type of anxiety disorder. A per-son with a phobia either tries to avoid the thing that triggers the fear, or endures it with great anxiety and distress…… ….. People with these phobias may need to alter their lives drastically. Oxford Ref. (Dictionary of Psychology): A persistent, irrational fear of an object, event, activity, or situation called a phobic stimulus, resulting in a compelling desire to avoid it. The presence or anticipation of the phobic stimulus triggers anxiety or a panic attack, although the person acknowledges the fear to be irrational, and the phobic stimulus is either avoided or endured with dread. A phobia that leads to clin-ically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning may be diagnosed as a mental disorder-either a specific phobia or a social phobia. In short, it is a mental disfunction, which causes a misperception of reality, an anxiety disorder, that causes extreme irrational fear and deep distress with panic character trig-gered by something which in reality is harm-less, i.e. a pathological mental construct with strong emotional character that has dear social and psychological consequences for the exposed person and in this case the ‘phobic stimulus’ itself. Taking into account the ever-present concept of Islamophobia in many conferences, arti-cles, books, papers, debates in public forums and parliaments, institutes, the many peti-tions and laws against this particular kind of phobia, this mental disorder has become a veritable institution and must be a world-wide emergency of vast extent. But a rational and sensible approach to this ‘pandemic’ exposes quite a different picture. A very much human ploy, a psychological ‘engine’ to discredit, neutralize any objection; labeling any questioning or rational and fact-based critique towards Islam as a mental dys-function. A psychological deterrent and polit-ical tool, that implies irrational fear, preju-dice, and xenophobic hatred against Islam. Blasphemy and offending Islam punishable with detention or execution according to sha-ria law is another powerful ‘engine’ to delegit-imize and choke any critique or disagreement of Islamic doctrine and way of life. These two ‘engines’ ultimately want to anni-hilate critical thinking and abolish freedom of speech, of opinion and dialogue. Any disa-greement, questioning or critical debate on Islam is thus transformed into illness and crime. The flourishing narrative of ‘Islamophobia’ is astonishing considering the volatile argu-ments it is based on, but most of all the reli-gious doctrine itself, the source, that has un-leashed this pandemic myth. Islam itself has an overt, flagrant phobic aver-sion and despise of anything un-Islamic, an indisputable relentless obsession. This verita-ble phobia, hostility and mistrust towards the non-Islamic world, particularly towards Christianity and Judaism is outright manifest in ideology, holy scriptures, history and bear-ing of Islam. Disrespect and curse of the infi-dels, ‘kuffar’ - ‘the worst of humanity’, the injunction not to trust and befriend the ‘wrongdoer’ but to fight him, the superiority of Muslims -true believers’, ‘the best of human-ity’, their holy mission to dominate, the im-minent conquest of Europe (as fulfillment of Muhammad’s prophecy), are taught in Islamic schools around the globe, written in Islamic apologetic literature, proclaimed in the mosques, anticipated and celebrated from the pulpits of Muslim political and religious au-thorities and the media. All this is commanded in the verbatim words of Allah as can be read in the ‘holy Quran’ and in the ‘shiny example’ of Muhammad’s life and sayings of the Hadiths. This revealed and promoted factual phobia towards the non-Islamic world, that is inte-gral part of Islam is taken for granted and hardly questioned, whereas ‘Islamophobia’ is an institutionalized hotspot in any debate or discussion on Islam. If there is a substantial and tangible phobia and obsession in western minds at all, that is the appalling and dreadful fear of being la-beled Islamophobic, which imputes to rac-ism, xenophobia, fascism, intolerance and supremacy. This is a potent paralyzing re-strain in any debate. This islamophobia ‘pandemic’ and the indeli-ble self-contempt and inflated ‘mea-culpa’-complex in western perception of themselves are the welcome obsessions on which to crowbar the narrative of phobia and bias against a ‘peaceful’ and ‘victimized’ Islam. It seems to me that the factual phobia and aversion written, taught, encouraged, com-manded and implemented in Islam is pro-jected onto ‘the other’, the disbeliever de-fined by Allah Himself in the Quran, by Mu-hammad and Muslim scholars in the Hadiths as ‘kuffars’, ‘wrongdoers’, ‘corruptors’, ‘per-verted transgressors’, ‘hypocrites’, ‘worst of humanity’, people without understanding, ‘as-sociate of Satan’, ‘losers’, ‘liars’ along with many more disregarding definitions and exe-crations. What is inconvenient and denied to be acknowledged in oneself is assigned and placed into others. Projection is a known protective mindset in psychology, a process of misjudging what is ‘inside’ as coming from ‘outside’. Still defaming with the label ‘Islamophobic’ has become a mighty tool, an ‘enterprise’ to demonize and haunt critical thinking and freedom of expression and instill horror in most of western minds of being labeled as such. Prof. Klaus Kinzler of the University in Grenoble (France) critiqued the term ‘Islamopho-bia’ in an academic debate (Neue Züricher Zeitung, 2021). The academic teacher, who previously was considered a neoliberal was now accused of being an intolerant right-wing Islamophobe by the ‘liberal’ Student Union ‘Sciences Po Grenoble en lutte’. He was accused of scorning millions of victims, spreading right wing ideology, division and hatred. Students were invited by the Union to report anonymously whatever he else might have said against Islam. He was banned from teaching and had to hide with police protection. The Sociologist and author Ruud Koopman writes: ‘The concept of Islamophobia implies that reasonable and justified concerns and ap-prehensions towards the factual bearing of Islam to be barely an irrational form of hate, thus turning the target into offender.’ Racism, intolerance and irrational fear of ‘the other’ exist all over the world, in every cul-ture, in every country. It is the selective and manipulative distortion and abuse of these very human flaws exploited as a political and psychological tool, the disregard of objectivity and equity, that are destructive and disturbing.

Being afraid of jam might be considered irrational, being afraid of a demonstrable threat is certainly not.

If someone had said to me in eg 1995, "what has religion x brought to the country?" I might have had to think quite hard because if religions are not generally "noticed" that means they are pretty much settling in. I could have come up with "cuisine" if pushed I suppose. But if anyone said to me now, "what has Islam brought to this country?" the first thing of terrorism would be obvious. Then comes messing with our freedoms. Nobody bothered really pushing the button on "freedom of religion" too much at all until the recent years. The burka is defended on "freedom of religion" and we have this paradox where our freedoms that are offered are allowing the freedom to oppress. After the Charlie Hebdo slaughter, certain Muslim organisations and individuals started attacking free speech and free expression, telling us there were limits. But they were not referring to the limits we already knew about. They were referring to their own religious limits, and for instance, our media went along with it, refusing to show cartoons etc. In this case, they were curtailing our freedoms to suit themselves. And because this had never happened before plus our "offering" of freedoms, and our supposed "tolerance" we don't know what to do. The result is that many have decided to side with it all, and call anyone who complains about this, "Islamophobe" (racist, xenophobe, etc). That is what Islam has brought to this country.
