For the first time in its history, candidates for the position of Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO) will answer questions on key challenges for the WHO in a panel discussion.
Candidates for the 2017 WHO Director-General election discussed their candidacy at Chatham House’s Question Time event, in London on November 3 2016. Questions were put to the candidates by Richard Horton, David Heymann and Suerie Moon as well as a live audience on site and online, on issues ranging from women's health to universal health coverage to the role of industry in global health. Lancet TV brings you the highlights.
Five of the six candidates were present including Dr Flavia Bustreo (Italy), Professor Philippe Douste-Blazy (France), Dr David Nabarro (United Kingdom), Dr Sania Nishtar (Pakistan) and Dr Miklós Szócska (Hungary). Ethiopia's Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus was unavailable due to urgent government business.
