@Shalltear773 Personally I think it's a lack of understanding the nature of the Golden order / the greater will. But like the other guy said, it's also all subjective. A world with no divine intervention, no divine favor, and likely no salvation after death isn't exactly great by some people's standards. How it's worse than destroying the world and (likely) being the pawn of the frenzied flame is beyond me.
@Shalltear7733 ай бұрын
@@itsCaptainEli addressing that last sentence. some people will argue in favor of the Frenzied Flame because it's supposed to end suffering by essentially killing everything whereas the Age of Stars will allow that suffering to continue. for me, I believe the Age of Stars is best because Ranni is taking her Order away from the world and out of reach of other powers, and giving the world a chance to heal itself without gods screwing everything up as badly as the Greater Will inevitably did, if not worse.
@spiraljumper743 ай бұрын
Count me among the legion of adoring Ranni fans. Her singular battle against the entire eldritch pantheon of outer gods is incredibly compelling and for all the harm her actions bring to others in the Lands Between, at no point is she ever afraid to put her own spirit and existence on the line for that fight. She kills her own body, exists as a liminal spirit in a fragile vessel, throws even that away for a time, and eventually deals the final blow to her Two Fingers with her own hand. Age of Stars is, by the numbers, far and away the most popular ending, this despite its ambiguity and strangeness. That so many people were willing to meet Ranni in that unknown place says something interesting. Or maybe that we all just lust for the blue gush, as Maxxor would say. 😂

If you think back and inspect the entire picture all Ranni wanted was freedom not only for her but for everyone because whatever ending is chosen affects everybody in the Lands Between, She sacrificed the most to get freedom to everybody to give freewill to everybody. It's not that Ranni didn't care about the consequences or that she acted impulsively. She knew that might happen but she saw it as a worthwile sacrifice. Also it's not completly out of selfishness that she did. She casted away the new order, so far away that nobody would ever feel it's influence. This means no more, worshipping, no more religious wars, enslaving and genocide in the name of the one true god like Marika/Radagon did. Of course her desire for freedom started all this but there is also another motive. She sacrificed herself. She literally killed herself and was willing to stay in exile far away from everything in the dark and loneliness. But you, the player, came by and was willing to spend eternity alone with her, as her husband/wife. Best character, best ending.

best ending Not only is it the only ending you don't end maidenless, but you also free the people from the rule of gods. That freedom does come at a price of fear, doubt, and an uncertain future. A couple years ago I would’ve said that a lot of the metaphysical rules and features of the Elden Ring setting were too abstracted and required too many intuitive leaps for general audiences to understand and connect with. But there’s been a few rather complex and abstracted movies and shows that have come out since, that did well enough, that I’d now say an Elden Ring show could totally find an audience willing to pour over every line and frame for context and meaning.
@HeevaEgo3 ай бұрын
@@spiraljumper74 agreed. Although I still think it’s a rocky road, given that the director - Miyazaki-san - NEVER likes sharing ANY sort of “answers” that aren’t found within the game itself. Dark Souls has been out for over a decade, and Miyazaki still hasn’t officially told us answers that aren’t found in the game. Miyazaki also says he and Mr. Martin have a full lorebook of Elden Ring that he’s never willing to share in any way. As much as I’d love an adaptation of Elden Ring, I feel like Miyazaki would be really only be comfortable with focusing an intimate story around a singular unimportant side character like Vyke, which I would actually totally fine with. I have the history and world already at my hands in Videogame format. I don’t need a show to reiterate/spoil(?) the secrets of the game I already have access to. Instead, a short story piece on minor characters would be more believable and still totally cool imo. But if there ever was an adaptation on the history/story of the Lands, then Ewan Mitchell is my first casting pick for Sir Messmer😂

Many players surely never fully understand this ending, on their first playthrough. I didn't. ... You're left to rule as Lord and use the Elden Ring as you see fit. Age of stars ending, she takes the Elden ring, and the power of the order so far away no one can feel it or be influenced by it's power ever again. So, Ranni basically did what.. maybe sounds like a weird comparison, but like what Kratos did back in God of War II ... By killing the Sisters of Fate, he also freed destiny itself.. for everyone. And thanks to Ranni and you the Tarnished... the world is free from the dictation of the golden Order, and every soul can create their own destiny.

@GirlofCulture3 ай бұрын
@@lostvayne9146 I knew people would say that. Gamers are pretty confused over Ranni's words in her ending. The line "And have the certainties of sight, emotion, faith, and touch… All become impossibilities," especially had some worried that she was getting rid of people's emotions. This was actually a mistranslation between the Japanese and English versions of the game. In the Japanese version, she is saying all these words in reference to her new order. She and her order will not be physically present for others to see, feel, and touch because (as proven by the Golden Order), that creates a lot of problems. Another line that worried players is, "Let us go on our path of fear, doubt, and loneliness, into darkness." These words all have pretty negative connotations, but what Ranni is really saying is that without a Greater Will pulling the strings of everyone's fate, people will likely be more lonely, fearful, and full of doubt. To Ranni, though, all of that is worth it for the freedom allowed under her order. One important line is she calls her rule a "thousand-year voyage." This means the Age of Stars does plan to end in one thousand years. This is also very much unlike the Greater Will, which planned to rule for all eternity.
@Shalltear7733 ай бұрын
@@lostvayne9146 darkness is not inherently bad. to bring freedom in a world that's been dominated by a single will for this long, one must instill a sense of doubt, fear and loneliness now that they no longer have that single will telling them what to do or what to believe. it may be an era of darkness at first but every era has an end and the people may be better for it after experiencing life without the Golden Order, the Greater Will and their many prejudices.

Ranni's moon is described as a dark, cold, occult moon with secrets, whereas her mum's was a bright, brilliant moon that enchanted. I think the stars show the moons to the Carians to reflect their personalities, paths and destinies. To give them something to chase. Unfortunately, the assassination of Godwyn the Golden must have been intentional. The Black Knives could have killed any ol' demigod, but they went after the most powerful (after Marika), loyal, and charismatic leader of the Golden Order. I mean, he befriended the dragons they were killing! That was not random. But then we have to theorise about why the Black Knives attack Iji and Blaidd. I don't think they work with Ranni anymore, they were hunted down after Godwyn's death to almost extinction.

The reason I went with her ending first, was probably because I hated how the golden order kept meddling in everything and making everybody suffer, where her ending, it feels like she's really letting the world have a freedom they weren't afforded under the "finger" pun intended of gods wishing to be exalted, when they were really more just, extraterrestrial invaders, that demanded order. I think she just wanted everyone to be free from their grasp, because since she was young she'd been under their control, until she rended herself from her body with the rune of death.

You can argue that this is the best ending by giving everyone freedom, but you can also argue that this is the worst ending. Ranni removed Golden Order and established hierarchy from the world, but the people stayed the same. There will be huge power vacuum and every race, nation and clan will fight from their place in the world. Eventually some dominant faction will just replace what was removed. You can argue that Frenzy, Duakborn and Dungeater endings afe better because they affect everyone equally. While Golden Mask ending is only one that actually tries to fix what is broken. He even does it with 3rd party solution and not with his own ideal.
@Shalltear7733 ай бұрын
the problem with Frenzy and Dungeater is those endings will clearly be an extreme issue for everyone with almost no benefit for people who will experience it. the Dungeater for what I hope are obvious reasons and Frenzy because it's meant to destroy all things. while not inherently evil, it's not exactly great as it robs the world of the chance to heal and become greater than before.
