The intellect needed to re-create a machine like that is mind blowing. Bravo guys, BRAVO!

Some people just feel the need to pull you down.. but this sounds amazing! A major triumph.

I've owned both the LM1 and LM2 over the years. You're getting really close, I'm impressed. Liked and subscribed......and saving my pennies already ;)

There's no LM2. It's called the LinnDrum. The LM1 and LinnDrum.

What a great little community that has formed out of this project - and in such a short period of time! I have great respect for the developers. They’re clearly open to anyone capable and willing to aid in the success of the project. I’ve often wondered how past LM-1 users/owners are feeling about the Luma-1, but it sounds like even they are thrilled and willing to put in a pre-order. Is there still a possibility of some units making their way before the Holidays are over? I need this ASAP! 😁

2 1980s drum machines from Linn Electronics were heard in the songs "1999" (1982) and "Little Red Corvette" (1983).

Yes! it's the same FX chain as in the last video with DPM7 as the FX. No EQ or compression on Luma-1, just a little wet effects.

@@DeftAudio Maybe a highly processed demo would be nice. Either way, these drum sounds are classic just how they are.

@@x10dc90 it's always a compromise, then someone can argue that drums are heavily processed :)

@@DeftAudio True, although the allure of these drum machines IMO is the fact that you can use the individual outs to further shape the drums. I don't think the sounds alone are the selling point.

I've seen that the pre-order is now complete. Before I sign up to Instagram and join the wait list, do you plan to do more production runs after the initial one is complete?

Sourcing 40 y.o. DACs and other critical vintage components is very difficult. We don't know if we can make another batch and how big it could be.

Can you fit a whole plate reverb in there?

Really great work and congrats, but what am I not feeling compared to the original? The sounds are great but something about the looseness of groove… or the lack of looseness. I could be tripping but just listening to the original. Not a criticism just an observation. I have 0083 so one of the earliest ones. Congrats again, regardless!

Doesn’t sound like it has the “juice” of the original to me.
@DeftAudio
@DeftAudio Жыл бұрын
You have the original?
@Cubik303
@Cubik303 Жыл бұрын
That’s because you’re used to hearing the processed and treated output of the original machine. If you give the Luma the same treatment it will absolutely have the “juice” you’re looking for!

Prince added delay, tons of reverb, phasers to each part. It went through his Boss pedal board, then as mentioned, the whole thing was processed again. You can source these samples easily, so using an MPC would get you 99% there. This is a beautiful unit no doubt, I'd love one. But it's very much a desire unit, than an actual requirement to getting the LINN sound.

@@DeftAudio I have a LinnDrum with the LM-1 EPROMS. FWIW, I rarely use any effects on my LinnDrum, so I know what it’s supposed to sound like dry.
