I think it's worth mentioning that Sophie Lancaster stood in front of her boyfriend and took most of the beating, so her boyfriend survived. Now she lives on in in this beautiful song drawing attention to things like this. If you ask me, that's worth a seat in Valhalla. Her death certainly wasn't in vain. I usually only say that about particularly accomplished war veterans. Huge respect to Lancaster, huge respect to this band.

Sophie and her boyfriend Rob were targeted by teens for their looks. Rob was the first to be attacked by all five boys. To the point he was badly bleeding and unconscious Sophie managed to get in between. She cradled him on her lap screaming out to witnesses for help. Then two of the boys Ryan Herbert and Brendan Harris turned on her. She was repeatedly kicked in the head and body. She also had her face stamped and jumped on multiple times. When they were done they fled leaving Sophie and Rob on the floor unresponsive and bleeding. Witnesses soon found them and called for ambulances. When the paramedics did arrive they at first couldn’t tell who was the male and who was the female. Because of the amount of bleeding swelling and bruising on their faces. They were sent to hospital in deep comas and placed on life support. Fortunately Robert showed signs of improvement and eventually woke up. But Sophie’s injuries were far to severe she was brain damaged. So as a result her life support machine was turned off and she died.

Who knows if any of you will ever see this message, but I just wanted to say thank you for this last year of excellent songs, videos, and live performances via KZbin. I really enjoyed the Summer Breeze concert!!! You all are quickly becoming my go to band, especially during this last year. I’ve been going through chemo, and it’s rough and difficult, but the music, lyrics, and just overall energy you all bring to each new release continues to give me light in the sometimes darkness. I also just wanted to quickly wish all of you a great rest of the year, and I hope your Roseville date in March of 2025 will be a huge success. Was hoping to make that show and see Delain live for first time, but I won’t be able to make it unfortunately. Please keep up with all your success and I hope to see you in the future. Take care and bless you all for making my days better.

This is still one of the most powerful songs that is completely and 100% inclusive. Black, White, Nerd, Outcast, Goth..... doesn't matter. We are all one. When are we ALL going to get past the judgement? And before you think that you don't judge anyone.... when was the last time you used the name Karen in a joke? When was the last time you sneered at someone wearing a Trump hat? When was the last time you looked down on someone wearing a Biden/Kamala shirt? We are all human, we all make mistakes. We should never be defined by our mistakes. We also all grow.....

Get real, bimbo! 😂 It's a song! The world is full of judgment and prejudice...you know why? Because it's an evolutionary instinct to discriminate and to form clear group identity. You can't treat the world world as your friends, my little angel 😇😂😂😂 The most three hugging hippie, discriminates as well!
@Wolf-ln1ml2 жыл бұрын
I think that's a good bit too generalizing. Yes, we all are human and make mistakes and (tend to) grow. But _in order to grow,_ we need to know that we made a mistake. We very rarely notice on our own, we need others to point those mistakes out in some way or another. Can we all be more kind in how we point those mistakes out? Yeah, definitely. But we must not stop judging, or we'll lose our ability as a group/society/species to _learn_ from our mistakes and grow.

I've said this many times before. But it is true. Hatred to others is bad. But we wouldn't hate upon others if we would just ask what other people feel like. These days if we don't fit into a certain area of other peoples perspective on life then they hate us. This is what was the main reason of why Sophie is gone. She and her boyfriend didn't fit into someone's liking and thus were attacked, but Sophie made a powerful sacrifice, she protected the one she loved at the cost of her own life. Thus is why she is my hero. This is what I say after I tell others of her and her story. "I am Kiba Spirit Walker, I am autistic and ADHD, I am Sophie, and I am proud of who I am no matter what anyone thinks or says about me."

No one knows I've got Asperger's, what's the point telling them? They don't even know what it actually means. They'll still think I'm lazy, too sensitive, too weak and incompetent. I find it funny that this song about being comfortable being not-the-norm is drawing fire for being not-normal-metal. I don't care about the style, I love this song. It resonates so strongly.

I teach art with a lot of the "others" kids! I watch as jocks, admin,parents,and society mistreats them! We even have bullying assembles, but nothing is ever done! This song sings to that danger when its carried to its extreme! I LOVE THIS SONG! Geddy Lee would be proud

Every time I hear of this song, still feel touched. Not just becoz the music, is it based on what happened. We are all Sophie.

This song reminds me of my school years. Since the first grade, I was always looked at and treated differently. And it was a long 12 years for me.

As a black man in my youth I was a goth back in the mid to late 80's and believe me I got into some scrapes because of it. When I heard about the murder I was just sickened by it.

This song is incredible, and having heard it live recently only makes it better. Delain rules, and I'm so glad they got to tour in the US!

I've been hearing their live preformances of this song... the 2nd guitar makes all the difference, it's perfect now with Merel

I have just finished writing an assignment for my final year of a BA in criminology , and I chose the Murder of Sophie Lancaster as an example of Hate crime. I was struggling with some of the harder parts of the case and whenever this happened I listened to this song and it gave me the energy to keep going. Our laws around hate crime need to change, we need to protect all difference under our laws , if you attack someone for being different to you in ANY way no matter what that way , it should be considered a hate crime and our laws should write this in black and white. Sophie should never have died because she dressed differently or listened to different music, no one should ever be attacked or victimised for being who they are #WeAreOthers

Wow, great song and I LOVE the message! Charlotte has such beautiful voice. So glad I got a chance to see Delain on Sonata Arctica's tour in September! I thoroughly enjoyed them. I was wondering who Sophie was but then I saw a post by someone else about the horrific event below. Just read about it. Stories like these sadden and anger me. Why can't we just accept each other for who we are?!! Such a senseless cowardly act!

Delain is a Dutch symphonic metal band formed in 2002 by former Within Temptation keyboardist Martijn Westerholt and singer Charlotte Wessels. Great metal band as ever!

I keep coming back to this song whenever I feel the need to. It is beautiful and amazing. Offering a symbol of hope and acceptance. Most of the time I feel better, I fear though that even this lyrical journey will no longer help. Still I listen and love every beat.
