Thank you Mark, you're vert kind, it's been almost 8yrs now since the first videos, and we're almost on 1000 uploads which is just boggling when you consider each one has taken anywhere from 1-6hrs to film and the same again to edit in post-production, could be over 10,000hrs of work, so I guess it's quite an achievement... thanks so much for your kind support, we really appreciate it !

The battery box looks nice and tidy. You may want to mount the electronics about half an inch lower giving a bit more wriggle room for the wires. Also the ECU Mount can be just below the fuse box.

Welding is in the premier league now . considering you're a southpaw and weld away from yourself (how rude was that !) Sorry.. No seriously your fab and weld skills have gone stratospheric this last year...you should be proud ...attention to detail is a pleasure to watch... The mark 1 spitfire was a beautiful beast but didnt eclipse the hurricane the mark 25 spitfire was the fighter of all fighters ...you have gone from mk1 to mk25 by careful planning and consideration....this is stunning workmanship Del thanks for sharing ✌💗
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
Why thank you most kindly Brother Springy.. I guess the best self test is to ask if i would trust them as frame welds on a bike with a big heavy motor... and the answer is still no.. im still not consistent every time, and would want to be before i embark on building a frame... but this is as close as it'll get for now.. the tail is still structural and i will still be relying on this tail to hold me up and not sit me on the tyre at 80mph ..lol So yeah, maybe ill allow myself a little "yesss" now and again along the way as they improve.... Big love and peas Brother.. D&Px

ACE. It's got me thinking. I confess to being a bit too brutal when it comes to fighter builds , having a compulsion to shorten the wiring loom, as well as tail section, trying to hide everything under the tank. That's why my whole house is a mess, and the current bike is still in bits? Your machine is working out well. So, to celebrate, I will carry on sanding a rear wheel, and continue that daydream about everything fitting under the tank, and deny every other option exists, even though you just displayed one. :)
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
You're so right buddy, I had an old GSXR years ago, the traditional M model, which made a great fighter, and I actually made some spacers to mount the tank 1" higher up so I could get all the wiring loom under it lol! So hey, if you have no room, then make some....!!!

Nice! I'm on a '95 WS at the moment, the fitting prospects look good so far. Sideways gel battery should make the squeeze. This one is going to be a bit special, with a slightly extended aluminium fuel tank, down to meet the original seat subrame, removing that awkward 2" gap that exists when removing the standard seat, etc. I may hazard a video soon. It's always a pleasure watching the Delboy Garage, so really should contribute myself soon, instead of procrastinating.

Hi Delboy... would just like to say... have watched your fighter build with great interest, and really enjoyed... to the point that I have been inspired enough to go out and buy a new motorbike:) managed to find the one I wanted a ZX6R C1H in Titanium.... years ticket on it... but riding back from Gillingham... I thought ... somethings not right...squeeling chain and sprockets... hmm took it to bike shop ...Normandy Motorcycles...big shout out to them...yeah just wheel it round back...whipped it on paddock stand... yep chain and sprockets shot and rear wheel bearing visable play....so ordered the bits today... and all my mates are rallying around bringing me stuff man... got a cover today from mate... tomorrow a paddock stand off another...ok ramble ramble,... you see I never thought i would get another bike... long story.. car hit me 2005.... but we start again... shes a 2005 kawasaki ... and I'll ride free again... Thanks mate... all the best Jon...

Hi Jon.. Thats great news, and welcome back to the biker family my friend... You'll love the ZX6, they are such a lot of fun and really easy to ride.. its a shame you had to fix a few things right away.. but it sounds like you have a great gang of mates to look after you.. Its sounds like you're not too far away in Gillingham, so maybe ill catch up with you at Brightona or a more local meet... Take care and keep in touch.. All the est.. Del.

Hey Del.... ahh no I'm based in Guildford... bought bike in Gillingham... and rode it back with the bad wheel bearing and chain... :) Yes it's quite docile below 8 grand... but above that.. she goes... can't wait to fit the chain and sprockets and bearings... have done it before ... I had a ZXR 750 L2 ... one the car hit... rebuilt it all ... have some pictures of that somewhere... thanks for the quick reply... and yes I'd be well up for a meet .. when the sun is out and about... nice one mate... Jon

Hey Del... Hope your well... quick update on bike... so the bearings and chain and sprockets arrived today... as i went to undo axle nut... it like basicly fell off it was that loose...so probably didn't need the new bearings...but anyway put the new bearings in wheel so at least i know they fresh... then thought I'll leave the chain and sprockets for another time..as that took me 2 and half hours to do...feels fine now... did tyre pressure..they were like half full... she's lovely now man... I guess the moral of all this is... never take it for granted that other people care for there bikes like you may do... Ok Peace out man.... Jon...

Ayup Jon, so good to hear you got it sussed, and my word, it sounds like you only just got away with it... I've bought bikes like that from dealers, would you believe... you're basically riding home on a death trap, these people seem to have no shame... but on the up side, I guess now you've done all those things, you will have seen the improvement, stage by stage, and appreciate every up-grade...... As for a meet, why not join our Idiot Collective forum, here's a link: bikers.boards.net/ .... we try and make a meet every month and usually somewhere around the south, they're all fine people and you'll make some great friends on there... why not register in and introduce yourself, and we maybe catch up at the next meet??

Jon... :)

Hey Del. when sorting out the spaghetti why not get a set of terminal tools and matching terminals for the ones in your current housings. You can shorten everything and keep things tidy without loads of solder joints.
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
Good plan buddy, two videos from now you'll see it's all welded in one piece, ECU mounted and the wiring harness clips perfectly to this metal work, the only thing left is the wiring for the lights, which is about 8" long, and I still want about another 8" of tail to make it the right length, so hoping they'll be just right, but if not, yeah I could shorten them for a tidy fit - cheers!

Hi Jame,s thanks buddy, im hoping that maybe i can use the back half of the old tail. I would have to reshape it to fit and reduce it in bulk a lot.. but then i can use the frenched tunnel light i really like, and keep the back looking really unique... as with all these things, ill get to that once i can get this all mounted and safe... thanks for your support aye.. al the best.. Hi Peter.. the thinking is, that i want to use the space under the tray to hold the ECU without it being too low.. and also i want to use that frenched tube rear light, and im hoping it will fit in under the tray keeping the whole thing really compact.. but all things evolve as they flow.. so i may well mount the tray a bit low, but keep the same angle to give me the ECU space... thinking as i go buddy.. thanks for your input.. much appreciated.. What about using an under-mount angle bracket to mount the ECU to and have it hang below the fuse mount? It will have air flow and be tucked up out of the way and wont add additional width to the mounting area you have already created.

Del, you really do need a TIG welder, it'd make those smaller bits so much easier!,
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, I would love that mate, I have yet to get involved in learning that and practicing, I tried using an arc welder inverter set up, which is scratch start and I found it particularly tricky and challenging compared to a controllable pedal, listening to those who use one, so in the future, if I can afford it, yeah I may invest in a proper TIG machine and I have a friend who's willing to teach me, so it is on the list my friend....
@paulbuckberry7683
@paulbuckberry7683 6 жыл бұрын
Yes Del, trouble with scratch start is that you usually end up damaging the tungsten tip starting the arc which is might frustrating. Once I changed to a high frequency set the start up and welding process became much easier. Welding is a funny old game for me, it either goes very well or I end up throwing it down the bottom of the garden ..................you should see my scrap pile.......I mean garden sculpture!!

Hi Del. Loving the progress on the build. One question - why use the angle grinder to cut the steel plate when you have the new saw?
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Rob.. as you may have seen the bandsaw is a convertible one, and the table is rather small and light.. when im cutting a lot of these plates it is from a big heavy sheet or 3mm.. so its easier to just buzz them out with the slitting disc for now... i do use the saw as much as i can though, specially in its "chop saw" mode, as it cuts square every time. ... thanks for watching.. Del.

Quick question are you building the structure off of the battery box? and if so isn't the weight going to be transferred into the bolts to the frame of the bike, meaning that the weight will be all on those bolts. just thought i'd ask just in case.
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
Yes Tom.. the weight of the tail will all hang on those four bolts.. just how it was designed to do at the factory... there was no other means of support for the tail unit before i started this.. so im happy to use those mounts.. remember they were designed to carry two people plus the old heavier tail.. so i recon they are more than strong enough... thanks for being so engaged with the build, its encouraging to know you're enjoying it... cheers. Del.

The top cross mount is the level of the bottom mount of the tank.. so the battery sits in its original position (if maybe just a tiny bit further forward), and the plate gets welded on in the latest video (which im still editing), and it'll be maybe an inch higher.. so it only looks high because the tanks not on it.. i want as much room under the seat unit as possible to expose all the tyre.. and the seat itself will be a solid plate which ill get you to make me a tooled leather cover for if you can mate.!!! in the end im lookin to make the seat about an inch or two higher than before, and really short.. German Fighter stylee..!

Enjoyed the video Del, why not mount the ECU in front of the battery box between the two uprights? Just sayin..! :)

Good plan my friend, but the tank slides down snug against the front of that fram cross brace, so it wouldn't fit sadly... !

Hi Adam... its not specifically a welders magnet.. just a couple or really strong random magnets i picked up along the way.. ive had them so many years i forget where they even came from... they have a steel cup they sit in, and a thread in that tip part.. maybe they once screwed into something.. maybe held something up.. who knows.. but i use them for welding as they are so handy...!

Del those magnets sound like what they ised to use in the army, at night you would put the magnet on the side of the tank and screw in a cyalume (glowstick)
