Great work Del, it’s really coming together now. I can appreciate that some people may get bored with the seemingly slow progress but I think the realisation of how long these projects take is so much less misleading than a couple of videos quickly jumping to the finished project. I’ve had hours and hours of watching your progress and thoroughly enjoyed all of it. Keep up the great work both!

Wow, thank you Michael, you're quite right of course, these thigns just eat time like you wouldn't believe! And it's difficult to make a video series of something when it's so long and drawn out... but, hopefully, the new format will now bring more progress in a few less videos each month, so hoping to make it more interesting to watch ! Thank you again for your support...D&Px

Thanks Mark, that's very kind... it was more a case of the editing and post-production was over taking us, but you can edit two videos in to one in half the time, so we're thinking that more content, and more progress per video, at the cost of a few less each month would make it more interesting to watch ... we'll see how it goes !

I have never made a video in my life but I can imagine how much work it must to put this altogether. Yes it can get a bit boring when it takes a long time to finish a project but that just reflects how much effort you are putting in this bike is coming together now and starting to look great. Make sure it ends up just how you want it and don't be swayed by feeling you have to get it finished it's no one's bike but yours enjoy it and we will enjoy with you.

Coming along really well, taking on a nice shape. 12hrs!! That's at least a 12-beer job there. LOL. I think some of the detractors of the build don't fully realize that your learning this fiberglass sculpting thing as your doing it and it's a huge process. And sometimes you see something, make a change and it takes you in a totally different direction. Enjoyed it as always bro. Excellent job sticking with it through all this time. Will be something to be proud of when your done. Cheers! Mike & Melly

Very nice work Del. Bloody long day, but time fly's when you're having fun LOL I think people need to be patient, builds are not done in a blink of an eye. @Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
Dead right my friend, it's such a long process, in fact this week, I'm filming for next Weds video and the plan is to follow the same format, am filming all day tomorrow and then again all day on Friday, to create enough footage for one big edit on Saturday, which will take me about 9hrs to make Weds video... once again, in the hope, to include lots more progress and different things, I'll be finishing the tail, hopefully completely, ready to bolt on, using the Glaze filler, which I've never tried so far and also practising, and demonstrating, a guide coat technique I've used lots of times that might help people... then on Friday am gonna start making the speedo mount which, so far, I've not even fathomed out where to put it ! But editing that all in one day, means that it'll take 3 days in total to create on great video for next week and, of course, we still have the prize draw to film over the weekend... even with the new format, it never ends lol lol Always great to hear from you, have a great week, D&Px

@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Gary, am pushing towards getting it fired up, now I'm considering it and planning the process, there's so much to do! It's been sat for 2.5yrs and started , maybe, 4 times.. will the tank leak?? will the fuel tap be blocked?? will the carbs have bunged up?? All sorts could happen, but it's gotta be done, so am buttoning up bits and pieces to get there... filming two days in a row for the next video, just to jam in lots of progress... cheeky speedo mount, which I think you'll like ... wish me luck !

Nearly there now Del. Great patience and skill have paid off. Are you going to put in an under tray to hide all the gubbins under there. About 6 weeks ago I did doubt your thinking on this but it’s turned out good and getting better. Think you’re right about the exhaust, do it later, winter project. Think you and Penny need to be careful that you don’t get to overload and this whole KZbin, build, stuff impacts on your private life. We don’t mind less material mate, take P out for dinner or something, get some chill time in. Take care👍🏻👍🏻🏍😎🙂
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah thanks Mike, you're very kind, and quite right! As the process of launching this on the road at this early stage is a temporory one to come off the road again in winter, then I thought, perhaps, clip all the wiring tidy and out the way for now, I need to make a chain guard also, so perhaps just a cheap, off the shelf hugger, to do both jobs for now, and then junk it in the winter when the time comes to finish it properly !

I think the build is coming on great Del, the tail section looks lovely! Personally I used to love watching the long 45min+ videos at the start of the build as it felt like a more intimate experience. Please don't feel as though you need to rush any part of this build as any true fan of your chanel can see that this project is a labour of love and a great learning experience for yourself that you are kindly bringing us along on. Could I suggest that if you change the format going forward that maybe your patreons could have access to watch the unedited footage? Keep up the great work!
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Tom, rally appreciate your support, and the videos will get a little longer for sure, as they will inevitably include more progress, but 45mins?? When you consider that the 'average' watch time on YT videos across the world is just 6mins, then you're shouting in an empty room... I watch the analytics very closely, and on most of our videos over 15mins, people will watch 30 secs at the beginning, then click to about 30% in, watch 30% of the entire video, which is usually about 5-6mins, then fast forward to the end to watch the result, so it's really a waste of time making 45min videos... I will certainly give the same amount of content, and results, but just condense tings for faster progress...... Also, with regard to patrons and un-edited footage, believe me, it's truly unwatchable, that 11hr session created almost 5hrs of raw footage, much of it switching on and off the camera, settings up shots, and repeating things to get a better angle, also overlap, if I'm rubbing something down, I might film 60secs in a row from 5 different angles, physically taking about 1/2hr to get that done... but nobody, no matter how dedicated, would sit through 5mins of continued rubbing down, so I'll end up chopping that in to 2/3 little clips, 3secs each, to give a fast, interesting, progressive result... and if I had to create a longer, almost un-abridged version of the day, that would double the psst-production time... thanks for your support, we understand what you're saying, but in practical terms, it could actually make things worse.... stick with it, in a few weeks, you'll see the result of the new format settling down!
@kikisato
@kikisato 6 жыл бұрын
Will do buddy. Cheers for the comprehensive reply! I can't believe people skip so much of the content... so fickle! I look forward to watching each of your videos in full and have a mini celebration when they broach 15mins. I understand that editing them down is a time consuming business and you both do a great job! Ride safe, TTFN

Oh yes. That's looking very good, Del. Sensuous even, or is that just my twisted mind? Cracking video too. Your intended strategy from here onwards makes perfect sense. Your primary aim is to do stuff. Your secondary aim is to show us. If it swings to much towards the showing then you'll not be able to do enough of the stuff. It's time for you to rebalance your priorities and nobody can quibble about that. Surely? Safe roads 👍

Exactly right brother, couldn't have put it better myself! The time it's taking off screen to do post-production and editing is overtaking the actual filming time, and I can edit 12hrs footage in the same time it takes to edit 6, so we're cutting down on the off screen stuff to preserve the on screen content and progress... it's really no more than time management!

Quite right my friend, you're aboslutely correct, they have teams of qualified designs, and fabricators, computers to make things easy and, of course, nothing is done by hand, and they can still take 12-18 months to develop a new bike, even one that's based on an existing model, like the XSR and the MT09 for instance !

Top notch fella. I'm sure that you're pleased as punch with the results, and rightly so. Bespoke fabrication takes an enormous amount of time, period. You have more fabrication skills than many of us, and it has taken you an absolute age to get this far. Perhaps if you had 3 months off work, it may be finished by now, perhaps not. It's a labour of love, an unfortunately, if you decide to part with this project in the future; you ain't going to get the time or money back from it. As you keep saying, it's a learning curve, and it's one that I've certainly enjoyed the ride along to date. I think the new format will hopefully free up some time for you and Penny; you both deserve it. Looking forward to the next episode. Oh, and the colour? Matt black sounds spot on, unless you want to carbon fiber wrap the bike...
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks buddy, really appreciate your kind words... am just a keen amateur learning as I go, no skills here! It's a great, fun labour of love, I long since gave up thinking I'd ever get what it's worth, and when you look at it that way, what is it worth, the £3500 in materials and donor bike have added up, and I guess that could be close to what you might get for it if someone really loved it, but it's a 20yr old sportsbike cut in to a streetfighter, and you can buy rough ones for £1500... but how the hell do you quantify your time?! Specially when you're bordering on 700hrs of it lol... nope, I think this one will truly be a keeper..... and yeah the matt black or maybe gun metal grey or something, just as a once over on the bodywork to keep it tidy while I ride it about and iron out the teething troubles... thanks for your support, we both really appreciate it !

The tail looks great now. Did I get you right - you wanna paint it all black this summer? It looks very authentic in metal silver (whith glossy clear coat-that's what I would do) like suzuki's katanas or the Benz Silberpfeil.The Shape fits perfect to the tank. That's the streetfighter-look I like. Modern technical.. not the old ones whit the bended cut off tails. And nice tecnic of laminating on mesh-wire and clay! Looking forward to your upcoming format-change making vids more interesting.

Thank you so much Oliver, that support is really encouraging... appreciate your kind word son the tail too.. it's not to everyone's taste, but then no bike ever is...! Am starting to think I may stick with the silver, but it all needs another coat, and you know how patchy metallic silver can be, may go more for a flat gloss grey, just for convenience, it really is temporary until I can get the paint meister to come work his magic in the new year!

Thank you my friend, we're glad we could help you... you're right, paint is the crowning glory, which is why I'm taking my time before we get there... I watched a documentary series called 'Motorcycle Mania' where Jesse James' paint guy made a very profound statement, and that was, that it's the design and the layout of the bike that make it great once you paint it, you can't paint what isn't good in the first place...! So I still have it all to do lol

Hi buddy, sorry about that, but I don't wanna rush it, and make a half arsed job, I really want it to be something special, and also so many people want to see the bike on the road... so I thought I'd just 'finish' it for now, get it rolling, get it MOT'd, then I can iron out the teething troubles through the autumn, and take it off the road in the winter for the exhaust build, so hopefully it'll be a better series to watch, and not rushed ! Thanks for your support mate...

Seems like the right move to me. Less editing, more time in the garage. I spend way too much time editing, and that's partly because of poor filming technique - but I can't see that ever changing - not the filming, which will get better, but ever increasing personal expectations of the finished product will just feed the rabbit hole. Good call.
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
Exactly that buddy, I'm no different to you, the average edit for me means carving off more than 4/5ths of the overall footage and picking out the best stuff, then blending it all together, continuity and relevance are so important... nobody likes to watch it all blow by blow, but at the same time, nobody likes to hear the words, 'here's one I made earlier', so it's striking a balance aye?! I loved your recent video with the swing arm out on the Bandit, it looked like a wonderful piece of post production mate, it's so easy to cut corners and do a qick edit, when we can often do so much better aye!

Enjoyable vid! My query is that in the past you have been religious in your efforts to keep the weight down but here you slap a whole mass of reinforced bondo in just to achieve a flat bottom? Your method of multilayer fibreglass to create the smooth under plate would have been a better engineered solution.
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
Hi buddy, am glad you brought that up... if you look closely, the jollop that I poured in to the tray was no more than 1/2" deep at the deepest point, and probably at least 50% of it was ground off again, I made it from, as you saw, a mixture of shredded matting, powdered fibre glass and filler dust, so it was actually really light, and with what's left of it, I doubt it's much more than an ounce, or two, heavier than the layers would have been, specially seeing as the amount of resin they soak up, and I wanted to be able to carve it, and shape it, without going through it... thanks for your input, always apprecaited, cheers, Del

Top work there fella ,that's looking awesome!!! I just want to thank you for your brilliant channel , it's helped me a lot and saved me some cash along the way in customising my Scrambler. Also, I don't know if I've missed it but did you ever do a follow up to the YSS upgrade from the Tec shocks? I'd be interested to know if they were much of an improvement for the added cost. Cheers!
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
Hi buddy, good to hear from you, and thanks for your kind comments, glad the videos can help...! With regards to the shocks, we never really felt it was worthy of a video just to say how better they are, but I can answer you now for sure... the simple answer is yes, they are better than the TEC shocks, they're a better finish by a country mile, far more robustly built and I imagine long term, heavy use in bad weather, they would stand up a lot better... but the most important point with any shocks is how they handle... and they do handle a little better... they are slightly smoother and more supple, and once you take the time to dial them in over a few rides for your body weight and the road conditions in your area, then they become like silk... just superb ! They are better then, but I wanted to put a caveat at the end, and that is even though they're better, are they £400 better?? The TEC shocks for £140ish are astonishing good value and amazing quality, the YSS shocks at £550+, are astonishingly good quality, but I thin they're expensive, meaning that I don't think they are great 'value for money' by comparison... I think you need to be someone who rides their bike extremely hard, in harsh conditions, and also who is a talented rider and can really push the bike hard right to it's limits, then YOU can exploit the benefits of those super expensive shocks, but for day to day riding, round the streets, with a pleasure only rider, I think you'd be fine with the TEC's and you wouldn't notice the difference.... hope that helps, I don't regret buying these for Penny's bike at all, but if I couldn't have afforded them, I would have remained very happy with the TEC shocks for years to come!

Great job mate, looking good, also wanted to ask, how would you repair a crack in a fibreglass tail unit ? one i have is about 3 inches long and goes all the way through, never done fibre glassing before .
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
Hey buddy... Is it actually fiberglass, with layers of matting etc ?.. as that would rarely crack right through.. Maybe its moulded plastic?, if so it can be plastic welded, then sanded and filled for finish.. but if it actually is cracked fiberglass, the trick is to sand out the crack half way through its thickness, and out to about and inch either side of the crack.. then layer up matting in the dent you have created... then when its dry, do the same on the inside, and you've replaced the crack with fresh new layers.. should be strong as new, and then you can sand it back and repaint it.. Good to hear from you buddy, call you in the week.. Del.
