​@@CrowLady0_0 Nah most films are famous for having really good deleted scenes that would have worked better then the one we got, most film have at least one scene where most people are "this made so much sense why the hell was he removed?" and usually the answer is "because they wanted to put a comic relief/romance moment that was unnecessary if you had made better chemistry between the characters". We are talking about even alternative endings that alter how we view films. Look at I'm legend, that film has an entirely different cut ending and the sequel is actually based on the deleted scene.

It’s nice to see only three scenes cut out. Really goes to show us they knew what they were doing from the get go. Only making it to the storyboard shows that it was rejected pretty quickly. I’ve seen deleted scenes that made it deeper into animation stages, some almost fully animated.

I'm glad they took out the peeing scene. Although the montage shows Puss, Kitty, and Perrito's relationship grow, the final cut was the best version of it. I'm glad they took out when Puss stole the map where I think it would've made the audience hate him even if he's attempting to get more lives. If they kept it, I imagine it would've modified the "Cave of Lost Souls" scene significantly.

I love how all of the deleted concepts aren't even fleshed out a tiny bit. The writers saw that shit and was like "this doesnt fit the tone of our story and characters at all" and wrote a story way higher than anybody could have asked for.

Exactly. There’s a lot of material that doesn’t make it past the storyboard stage. I also love the storyboard scenes of Chris Farley’s Shrek too. Really shows us how much they rewrote Shrek’s character when Mike Myers took over after the sad passing of his predecessor.

So they first storyboard the scenes and LATER they write? Nah, I think first they write, then they test these ideas out visually and as time passes, their vision clarifies so they get rid of certain ideas that don't fit to the mood or main character drive etc. It's not like writers immediately write the best ideas. They had many crappy ideas first but they take their time to review everything and check if it all makes sense together.

Yeah, these scenes were definitely removed for the better. As much as I loved #3, it does add a deep blemish to Puss's character. In this scene, Puss feels he isn't good enough for Kitty without his 9 lives, so he justifies temporarily betraying her as he'll have "9 lives to make it up to her". However, this scene makes Puss appear cold and stoic about his betrayal, not the desperation we see in the final cut. The mood of despair fits this situation much better and helps the audience to sympathize with him.

the.scene also emphasizes the fear he has of death. even when he knows they're there, watching him run away, he can't think of anything else but to run himself, from the fear of Death. it leaves some room for interpretation on what he's thinking. What *is* he thinking in that moment? it's both easy and difficult to imagine

They got rid of so much of unnecessary dialogue and left room for interpretation, the characters' expressions are enough to figure out what they think, what they feel in the moment, you can fill in the gaps and get what they meant to show. And when the characters talk, ie when Puss explains himself to Kitty on the Star, they leave only the most necessary words there. Tldr, the writers decided to trust the audience.

I'm glad that they changed that last scene, but the fact that he thought that Kitty deserved a "Legend" provides some interesting context about the fact that he walked out on her on their wedding day. Given his reputation as a ladies man, I initially assumed that he had a fear of commitment, but it seems that he was actually afraid that he might not be good enough for her.

I think it was changed. The art book mentions he did have a fear of commitment (probably grounded in how it’s permanent, similar to death being much the same). And then that fear coupled with an identity about always being fearless made him flee.

I get what you're saying and would be a interesting take. Though the way it's approached, and the way Puss thinks Kitty deserves "A legend", would just more or less make it seem that Puss learned nothing from the whole adventure and will forever be a selfish asshole, instead going for it out of pure fear of Death. Plus, I think the final product, where Puss apologizes to Kitty, puts it perfectly that Kitty doesn't want "The Legend" that he portrays, and instead just wants him and only his true pure self.

@@LionManatic Puss has always shown to just follow the fight or flight, but mostly stuck to flight. Especially when it came to long term commitment. The way the film portrays him is very good. Flawed protagonists are a nice thing to see. One written the way Puss was makes you feel bad for him more than hate him. Very true. Kitty never wanted to seek fame and fortune. Her skills as a thief was likely all for survival. Even though they never said it in the film this could’ve really cut deep if said. “I never fell for “The Legend”, I fell for you.” I definitely think she lied about not showing up at Santa Coloma to just not mage Puss feel worse about himself.

Usually when looking at deleted scenes movies I think, "Why would they delete this? It would've made the movie so much better!" But this time is different. This is one of the few times I'm confident in saying that these deleted scenes would have made this movie objectively worse. I'm glad we eventually landed on the final product.

The shaving scene is enough to get the idea that Puss falls in love with Kitty again. In the deleted cuts it just looks like they never met each other before and they fall in love for the first time. And especially, in very cliche ways. The shaving scene is hilarious AND quite unusual for what we typically see in such relationship developments.

Ngl, I cringed at all of this, especially the peeing scene. It was uncomfortable and weird. I am very surprised how these are so different from the movie. What I don't like about the montage is that they show too much of Puss and Kitty's romance. I love what was in the movie because it's more subtle and real, it makes sense for them to be still conflicted at each other because of the betrayal. Puss was a jerk in the Wall O'Snakes, I didn't feel that it's serious enough for his character development. It feels like a turn on and off. He betrays them, then Perrito convinces him and Puss agrees, then he betrays again to both Perrito and Kitty. He's on the verge of his death and he still acts easy-going, it doesn't make sense for him to not have any fear. When death is near, anyone would fear and rethink their lives. And Puss fearing the embodiment of Death nearing him is a smart move.

The fun thing is that everyone kinda got their wish despite not making one. - Goldie wanted a family, and she learned she already had one. - Kitty wanted someone she could trust, and she met one. - Puss wanted his lives back, and he got one that was worth eight more. - Wolf wanted to see an arrogant, death-defying prick die. And he did. Purrito didn't really have a wish, but one could argue that attaining comradery was a wish he didn't know he wanted. Jack didn't really get his wish (unless you consider magic coarsing through his body and killing him), but that makes sense since he's, as Jimminy puts it, an irredeemable monster. This movie is a fucking masterpiece.

As far as the 3rd (which was my favorite out of all these), it doesn't match the mood of the rest of the film and would've made Puss a major jackass. He does betray her in the final cut but the difference is the tone of the scene. In the final movie, there was desperation and guilt. In this scene, he's stoic and cold about it. The peeing scene was a bit disturbing in my opinion so I’m glad that was cut. Sort of wish that second scene was in there cause it helped the relationship between Puss, Kitty and Perrito to grow as a trio. It helped them both to just appreciate the little things in life. Then again, the montage would’ve taken away a lot of the plot’s material. For the third deleted scene, as much as I love Perrito standing his ground against Puss and showing some anger towards his actions, it doesn’t really fit up to Puss wanting to get to the star. Fear of death is the reason for his quest and us doing everything out of desperation. I’m glad they cut it out cause it made Puss more like a villain. I do like the idea that Puss doesn’t think he’s good for Kitty, but the approach here was wrong. If they kept this scene I think wouldn’t be as likeable since he’s probably the second most popular character in the franchise behind Shrek. Overall I’m glad all three scenes were deleted.

They made the right call on all of these. Peeing scene was weird, a bit too inappropriate, and obnoxious. Montage made it seem like we were skipping over interesting parts of the journey for sake of some quick, cheap, not very good laughs. Wall o’snakes makes me dislike puss, whereas the final product that was his panic attack peritto had to ‘therapy-dog’ him out of made puss look vulnerable, flawed, then submissively honest about his shortcomings. It made him so much more relatable, literally my favorite scene in the whole movie, easily.

It's quiet often with movies I watch, like The Lion King, Kung Fu Panda, that there's at least one or two scenes that I wish stayed in the final product. But for this movie, this is the first movie that I've watched, that I'm glad none of the deleted scenes made it in! Like each one, would've sorta killed the vibe or ruined the characters that they built. It were to seem Death wasn't as used or he was used differently in the deleted scenes compared to the final product and I'm very glad they used him in the way they did, as a way to help pivot certain plot points, like Puss running to the star out of pure fear of Death literally watching him run, rather than feeling like he just rolled back to his old self-fish ways and learned nothing. While the montage would give a nice showing of Puss, Kitty, and Perrito's relationship grow. It would just alter the vibe and atmosphere that the final product gave, like it would just feel like another plot-less montage that many other movies have to get to the point of the plot, instead of taking the path that they took in the final product.

The third one is weird, because not only destroy Puss entirely character in 30 seconds, but also the assumption that they slept during the path makes that at first probably it was settled like a multi-day journey. Which, it's not bad... but its weird. That could also being the reason behind the 2nd scene(the journey is too long, so here it is a fast forward scene lol), and how they said "He gained Kitty trust at this point", which he didn't entirely do until the end. A multi-day path is a nice idea... but I think it could only fully work with almost the entirely movie around Puss, Kitty and Perrito. Also, them sleeping makes that actually they are too far away of the others(they have the map, so they know the other positions, or not, because when they zoom in the map doesn't have any character icon) that they could actually do nothing for a few hours and still comes first.And... how maybe the ending was only Puss and Perrito reaching the end? Because I don't see a realistic way of Kitty to catch up with them if they... well, abandon him first, without some directions, and with lost time because she was sleeping. Maybe the path was more like a Maraton, and not a 100m sprint. (In the final cut this doesn't happen, you could see during transitions that they are not that far away for each other, but simultaneously changing "sectors" of the map, so the path to the wishing star could be done in less than a day. You can see that the bears fell slept and actually its that what makes them lose time and gives the opportunity to Puss and Kitty to arrive .)

I feel like all three would've made the film weaker. The first one just feels a bit awkward and while funny I don't think helps much, the second while fun I feel just doing some of the usual romance tropes with Kitty and Puss actually makes the connection weaker than them talking through their issues, and the third just feels like too big a betrayal to like Puss after, especially compared to how it actually happened. I really enjoyed seeing these scenes and it's fascinating to see how the movie changed, but I think the filmmakers landed on the right version of all the ideas that were seen here in the final movie.

Oh yeah, I'm glad these scenes were not spared on the cutting room floor. These three samples really made me cringe... The manipulation scene was shortened to go straight to the point about its function for the final cut, which is about the trust issues between Puss and Kitty. And Peritto no longer has to be involved in their situation. The 2nd jolly montage scene is lazy at best when it comes to showcasing the nuance between Puss and Kitty. The final cut explores everything a lot better, and it is also sprinkled throughout the 2nd Act, instead of rushing it through in just one scene. And I would have really hated the deleted betrayal scene. Something interesting to say about it is that I'm glad there was no "campfire scene" in the final cut. It's kind of a lazy cliche at this point to use as a self-reflection scene, I assume. Instead, they got creative with it, such as when they were sailing on a trunk through the River of Relaxation.

I think all of these scenes are great, in the context of a different approach to the movie. They’re deleted because they don’t fit the final vision of the characters they settled on, but if you tweak some things here and there, they slot right in, and I think that would make this movie a good watch with all of those character modifications. The final product is great, but that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t work in a different manner or a character, let’s say, Kitty, was handled in a different way.
