I'm a classical guitarist, and the ironic thing is that audiences prefer to see the performer reading from the sheet music (even if they know it by the heart). But I agree; memorizing is to me a sign that you've done your homework.

@@OktoberStorm Definitely! I follow a lot of Japanese voice actors and they always emphasize the importance of reading and keeping the script on hand to make notes. Knowing John’s comedy background, I find it so interesting how he chose to memorize most of his lines and if his experience of doing standup had anything to do with that.

I assume he's had to memorise lots and lots of routines (since obviously he can't bring a script on stage lol). It is interesting, I wonder if it's instinctual to him to memorise the lines. But I do agree that since he can, he could read back to the lines to makes sure he knows what he's saying next.

For those wondering: Death in this movie is extra scary for Spanish listeners, because Wagner Moura is Brazillian, and speaks Portuguese. As such, his accent is incredibly alien for any Spanish speakers; its English but he does not have any Spanish-speaker mannerisms. Its like listening to someone speak in an accent you never heard before, and it gives you goosebumps because its fucking Death. Contrast it with the stereotypical dragged accent of Banderas, and you get such a conflict, especially when Moura speaks in actual Spanish.
