I had this same situation a few months ago with social media and I was getting annoyed by how much I used it (without even realizing it). I gave myself a week and a half off - deleted all the apps and didn't touch them for all that time. It is interesting to do - I recommend it to anyone, all of a sudden you have a bunch of free time, and your thoughts go different places or you just figure out things to do. It impacted me positively and even a bunch of my friends did it after. Now - I have set a time limit per app per day on my iPhone (1 hour for me) which is also helpful at least to be mindful of how much you use it. And don't try to just replace social media with playing more games or such - just take time off the screen. Sit there with your thoughts a bit and with Taylor. Go in the yard and stare at the water or whatever :D People need to realize social media apps are designed to manipulate your brain into getting addicted to the constant dopamine boost they provide. Be smart about it :)

Hi Maxx, Taylor, and Dood. I reduced my screen time by placing time limits. I don't have an app to do that, but I don't go on social media (FB and IG) from Mondays-Fridays. I don't consider YT social media but that's just me. I don't have TikTok or Twitter or whatever it's called now. It has helped me because I go on my phone when it's intentional. Like I put on something on KZbin or Spotify when I'm at the gym, cooking, cleaning, even now at my corporate desk job. I also found it heartbreaking when I would see posts about animals being euthanized at the shelter or posts for lost/missing or dead pets from the local groups I'm a part of. I know I cannot help every animal but it's still disheartening to listen or watch sad upon sad news. I try to average 3-4 hours a day. Now I'm at 3. Some days I'm at 2. I don't go on my phone when I'm in line or waiting for my name to be called up for an appt. That helps reduced my screen time as well. No matter because or how long you are going to do it, it'd be great for you! I do understand it's hard because we viewers or listeners rely on your posts to connect to you, too. Have a great week and a fun time in Spain as well. Ever forward!

Imagine living a life not being inundated by outside stimuli. Imagine a life without having your thoughts and emotions continually influenced by input created by others. Btw, phone usage has far more implications on your brain and personality than just the time wasted. Who would you be if you didn’t consume any social media? Could be cool to find out

I don’t cut social media out completely, I just don’t follow accounts I don’t feel bring significant value (positive entertainment/motivation) to my day… and I don’t browse the For You or Search pages. I follow only about 130 people, and only 2 “influencers”. This way I only spend about 30 minutes or less per day on social media. And then because I don’t browse things I don’t intentionally follow, I’m able to use social media without wasting tons of time. Moderation is key. I think full addiction and cold turkey are both not practical or sustainable solutions long term.

in a previous borderline workaholic phase of my life, I limited my use of apps so I could cram more focused work time into my days and looking back on that, I was miserable and didn't know it. so I think experimenting with reducing app usage and screen time is a worthwhile one for awareness of our time. time is one finite resource we can never get back. my screen time is currently as high but I'm not sure it bothers me. thanks for making me think about it! Also, ladies love Chevrolet chivalry... facts.

I’m not going to lie, I feel like Maxx was put in an awkward position on his last podcast with Joe and the guy who moves around too much. I was about to have a less than favorable opinion of Joe but then the part of this vid where the door hits Maxx’s hand with the drink. Joe looked genuinely concerned, asked about his elbow, and instead of getting mad, Maxx just laughed it off. It’s a cool representation of growing up and your male friendships evolving. My buddies and I have followed Maxx since the OG days and we’re getting older. We still jest (like the podcast), but it’s also different with each of us reaching different life milestones so we all can pull back a bit now and be like “how’s your elbow? [b*tch].” IN CONCLUSION, thanks for letting us grow up with you, Maxx.

I ran into the same thought process as you over the last few weeks My work requires me to have access to social media so my fix for it was to use greyscale on my iPhone. That made it feel more like a tool than anything. Dropped my screen time from 4.5-5.5 hrs down to 2.5-3.5 hrs Then if I want to watch KZbin, I make it a little harder for myself by keeping it on my iPad. I ended up not having to delete social media on my phone because it is horrible to look at in black and white 😂
