If you get the opportunity, it is a truly fascinating country, I hope RTC run a tour there in the not too distant future. It doesn't look as though foreign travel will be on the cards this year maybe things will be better early next year.

Lovely collection here! There's Garratts, vintage electric locomotives, some beautiful British-built steam, U.S.-style diesel locomotives, and of course the unusual Palatial State Monorail Tram locomotive!

It's an important collection, not only is it a part of India's history, it' a a part of the history of the countries that built the locomotives on display - England, Germany, Switzerland , USA and of coarse India. I am English and seeing so many British products reminded me that Britain was once a great manufacturing nation, sadly not the case anymore. It is to India's credit that most the rolling stock used on it's railways today, is also made in India.

Timsvideochannel1 While its good to see that some attempt is made in preserving these old timers, I still wish they could be housed indoors. Just seeing them exposed to the elements and rusting away makes for sad viewing.

Great u spotted that. YES, it was used in the film Gandhi, and some of the coaches also I believe. Recent Bollywood productions as Rang De Basanti (2006) have also used rakes and locomotives taken from National Rail Museum, Delhi

Actually... that bulldog nosed locomotive that looks like an F6 is probably an old electric loco with the pantograph down. I think it was called the WCM 1 or 2 or something

+pega17pl This is a wonderful museum as it shows the history behind most of the locomotive builders in the world, rather than just a history of India's railways. It's well worth visiting.

+Timsvideochannel1 Sure my doctor will forbid to watch your videos. They cause too many bouts of wanderlust.
