This bread should be a winner. I make steamed breads every week by choice. Sometimes I steam, sometimes I bake, but if I had to choose one method, it would be steaming. The bread is softer and keeps better. I have made a number of different recipes in the steamer on my stove top, and they all work although I do prefer some over others. Both yeast breads and quick breads work. My only concern is that the breads made with white (called all purpose in the US) are so pale when they are done. They look sad to me although they taste wonderful. I have solved that problem to my satisfaction by sprinkling herbs or seeds on the top for visual interest. Breads made with some whole grain flour in them have a healthier brownish color, but they are all good. It is certainly easy enough to make bread without an oven. If all you can manage is a pot of boiling water in an emergency, you can still have bread if you have the ingredients on hand. Thank you for showing people how to do it.

used to love cooking this when i stayed in south africa . Did it one day at wife's cousin but used a microwave and boiled it for four hours , couldn't cut it or break it ended throwing it off a seventh storey and it broke the paving stone . Thanks will defo give it a try here in Scotland

Hi Jeremy, Great Recipe I am gonna give it a shot. Is that a normal portable electric element your using? Or are you actually using an induction hob to bake with? If its Induction, what brand is it and what kind of boiling would you go for low, med or high boil?
