Does unarmed bullying and intimidation justify lethal force? The shooter must not have been paying attention in class to get his concealed carry permit. Self defense doesn't always involve shooting someone. The guy should not be allowed to carry a firearm at all. The jurors must have consisted of enitled millennials? Geez!

@@simonw1313 No, you misunderstand, an *assault* is a legal term, the definition of which is: Assault refers to the wrongful act of causing someone to reasonably fear imminent harm. This means that the fear must be something a reasonable person would foresee as threatening to them. Assault doesn't require a physical attack at all, that's *battery* which is the act of causing unlawful physical harm. Someone being threatening and getting up in your face alongside 2 other goons totally counts as assault per the legal definition.

Bullying in schools doesn't stop because teachers and administrators are: lazy; bad people; or both. Typically, teachers and administrators will punish the bullied kids...because they are easy to blame. They can blame one kid and ignore the 10, 20, 50 kids doing the bullying. Plus, the bullied kid usually comes from a less powerful family.

I think the standard of behavior when a person is put in shocking situation is way off base. Not this case, this is just strange af, but if someone sticks a gun in your face who is going to react rationally? Maybe some hard core military guys or hard core police officers, but almost ALL of use would act irrationally because of the physiological response to insane situations. I think the guy in this case should have been more clear with a warning before shooting, but I've never had some idiot come after me in a mall food court so I don't know and that is why I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt in this case. Did he handle it well? No. Would the other 330 million Americans have handled it well either? I doubt it. Dude is did not behave abnormally for a human in a novel/stressful situation, especially with our politicians prioritizing violent criminals over law abiding citizens. You can NOT count on the government to protect you and you will see a lot more of this because the most ignorant among us are being impowered over rational people.

This is the definition of “F*** around and find out” right here. This guy is not pranking anyone, he is bullying and intentionally intimidating random strangers for his personal gain. As someone who has been mugged before, I can 100% feel Colie’s fear and anger, especially with Cook being much larger than him. I also believe that Cook targeted him due to his smaller size, not knowing he was armed and instead assuming that he wouldn’t retaliate. And as dark as it is, the footage of the incident is quite satisfying. Cook found a victim that wasn’t gonna put up with his harassing behavior and he was clearly shocked about it. That one round fired was indeed self-defense.

I approached him and we talked about stuff. Two large guys approached us and started to make weird comments. I though that they knew my friend and they were busting his balls. Then one of them punched me in the head and I fell down. With me on the ground they started beating my friend. I was in complete shock and when I regained my vision, I run from there. My friend was not so lucky and got seriously beaten up. I am not proud of running away and leaving my friend behind, but at that moment I genuinely thought that they were going to kill me. that case in Ohio with the white kid is interesting because he appears to pull up on these black kids (who already have records) and starts shooting them with this gel gun BUT that doesn't make sense to me at all why you would pull up on three older black kids (adults) and just do that...I mean there must be more context because you would only do that if you had a death wish. and well that wish came true, but the self defense part of it is the issue because afaik you are only acting in self defense so long as you have a demonstrable reason to believe your life is actively being threatened. like that cop who shoots that woman who stole the alcohol when she was driving straight towards him. but the black kids clearly decide they are not in imminent danger at some point (if they ever did) and then they proceed to beat the kid to death. I mean his spine was broken and he was lying face up on the ground, and that was only enough to get assault charges. I mean, with the YT prank my most generous take is that "it was just a prank" and if they didn't get what they deserved at least the verdict hopefully deters pranks in the future. for the other case my most generous take is that the white kid definitely should not have acted up like that but it wasn't self defense when they stomped him to death and the only implications of the verdict are that we need to return to a segregated society.

What people need to understand when it comes to 'pranks' is that the person being pranked does not know the intentions of the prankster. Sadly, the world is filled with situations where people are randomly attacked. Delivery people can be especially vulnerable as they could be carrying cash and whatever they are delivering. Approaching someone like that in a menacing way is looking for trouble. The delivery guy was much smaller than the prankster, making him even more vulnerable. If you are going to get into someone's face like that after being told repeatedly to stop, you are not very wise and looking for trouble whether you realize it or not.

A whoopee cushion is a prank - this is not. Some people seem to be looking for excuses to harass and assault others and think they can get away with it - even get _paid_ for it - by calling it "prank videos." They aren't. They're crime videos. This was bound to happen. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm sorry it came to this for the young man to learn (I _hope_ he learned!), and I'm glad he lived through it. We ALL did some foolish things when we were 21. As for the shooter, yeah, he was pretty quick on the trigger, but he also had to work his way through the justice system. I feel bad for him, too - _especially_ bad for him. As the OP points out, there were several aggravating factors, he was at work, carrying cash, delivery drivers are known to be targets of robberies, he was outnumbered, the other guy was physically larger than him, etc. And then we can also see that the shooter did not stop attempting to move away from the threat, did not aim for the chest or head, did not mag dump into the bigger man assaulting him. My fear is that rather than learn from this, the perpetrator of the real crime here may use it to boost his (very negative) influence!

That was probably a misinformed/stupid jury. They just took the fact he discharged a firearm literally and found him guilty for it. That being said he could have just brandished instead of shooting straight away.

@@mattsmith1126no you cannot this isn’t a fucking movie. Brandishing your weapon that close is extremely stupid and that’s why it isn’t taught.

if you pull a gun that close you have to shoot right away, or else risk the chance of having the weapon taken from you.@@jackwilson5542

The delivery driver was just trying to make a living. And the harasser was preventing him from making his next delivery. Lawmakers: Take heed. Enact some laws to have harassers fined and jailed.

Pranks, if you absolutely must, are for friends and family. Directed at strangers are assault.

I don't understand how there aren't lawsuits all over the place about this pranking is antisocial behavior, and it's obviously assault. How the DA let's it slide I do not know. Though I'm not sure what the DA is supposed to do anymore. Doesn't seem like they do much these days.

a prank isn't necessarily assault. Assault is specifically defined and is a physical thing that occurs to the victim. The shooter in this case was not assaulted, but had reasonable fear of imminent assault or robbery, which qualifies his actions as self-defense. Also, I don't think pranks necessarily need to be directed at friends or family, but they should end quickly and be totally harmless. If a 'prankee' is repeatedly telling you to stop and trying to get away from you and you won't let them, then it's not a prank anymore. It's harassment.@@kaufmanat1
