John- I've been subscribed to your youtube page since I started shopping for an FJR or Versys about a year ago. I ended up w/an FJR and have enjoyed watching your mod videos too. Like you, I purchased a set of Delks recently but the exstall/install instructions from the company were weak. I remembered you had posted your vid of the exstall/install so I re-watched it and blammo- it all went so much more simply. Thanks for posting!

I own 2019 fjr1300, same sweet color, phantom Blue. At about 400 miles I had a second gear ring break on me. Very long story short, after waiting close to 6 months to once again enjoy my FJ, Yamaha hooked me up with about $3500 dollars in OEM touring goodies, Yoshimura's sound awesome as well :)

@@ozarksbackroads5484 is there a big difference between your previous FJR and the new one?
@ozarksbackroads54845 жыл бұрын
well the new one has the six speed transmission with helical cut gears so no more gear whine and a higher final gear for the highway. Also the gear shifting is much smoother, the clunky gear changes are gone. The electronically adjustable suspension is nice too but I usually just adjust the suspension to suit me and leave it alone so that's really not a big deal for me. The all LED lighting is nice also. It is a more refined bike than before... I think it is worth the upgrade cost for me.... Thanks Sir.... :) @@ozarknative8170

I assume that the Delkevic mufflers allow the engine to rev out much easier because they are not EPA restricted and are more free-flowing? I recently test rode a 2018 , FJR and the stock mufflers did not let the engine rev out as fast I hoped it would.

That FJR is beautiful. I have a question, though: How does the heat coming off of the FJR compare to the Versys? I just traded in my '05 (First Gen) FJR on my new dealer leftover 2017 Versys a week ago today. I don't have any experience with the later model FJRs, but the heat coming off my First Gen was horrendous. I've read and heard that this is a common complaint with First Gen FJRs. Riding when the temp was over 85 degrees was borderline unbearable, and I live in Texas, so that just didn't work. That was my only bike for 5 years and I found myself wanting to ride less and less...even thinking I was getting bored with riding...and I've been riding nearly 30 of my 39 years on the planet. I'm hopeful, and nearly certain, that the Versys will be much more tolerable in the heat. I enjoy watching you work on your bikes. I wish I could send my Versys up to your garage for a few days' worth of mods ;)
@ozarksbackroads54845 жыл бұрын
Hello there, I have not noticed much heat coming off the Versys. I spent a few weeks on it out in western Colorado and Eastern Utah last summer and I did not notice any heat coming off the engine. I guess its pretty well controlled or I would have noticed. I am sure you will have a blast on your new Versys they are great machines..... ride safe..... Jon Smith :)
@wlewis001fjr5 жыл бұрын
Living in TX and having a 04' and an 08' FJR; heat was fixed on Gen2 model with a heat shield. Which is what most did with their gen1 model, add a heat shield under the gas tank. Now I have the gen4, no heat issues whatsoever, wife had 2012 vstrom dl1000, no heat issues, naked bikes are free breathers.
@ozarksbackroads54845 жыл бұрын
I have never noticed much heat coming off the Versys engine. The FJR makes considerably more heat and can be an issue when riding stop and go in hot weather. I imagine you will like the Versys much better on that issue.... Thanks Sir..... :)
