I had a 2005 FJR that I recently traded in on my 2017 Versys 1000, which is how I found your channel. Your FJR is absolutely gorgeous. I'd have another one, someday. The first gen was a good bike, but was incredibly hot to ride. I don't think the newer ones suffer that same issue.

Love the FJR, had one for many years. Small tip on changing your oil - wrap a piece of aluminum foil over the plastic fairing part that you have to pull out a bit. It gets oily, your fairing will not. Great looking bike!

Again thank you, as always very informative and didactic in your explanations on every aspect. Only two things I can add as a positive suggestion, the oil filter torque when installing a new one should be just hand tight, the black seal "O" ring on the filter, locks itself as it warms up, even if you tighten it by hand, you'll notice you still need a lot of force to take it off. Also on the sinc and link of the throttle bodies, it will be easier to see the difference between the two bodies if you "T" each body per two mercury lines of the tool, so you can see both bodies vacuum against each other at the same time. Love your videos, and your dedication to the sport. Thank you

I like the new ride! I also am a believer in the leather Corbin. Been riding them on my GL1800 Wings for many years. Don't know how I ever rode without it! I'm not saying they are best or better than others, but my Wife and I sure like them. I see you are running my oil brand also. I personally know two GL1800 Wings with over 300K using that oil. The extra washer was from the crating materials, it was on the spacer and on the axle in the crate, I just looked at the assembly instructions and while you can see in the pictures, it does not specifically tell you to take it off the spacer and discard it..... I did a screenshot but cannot attach it here. It does tell you to "before tightening the pinch bolts, stroke the front forks several times to make sure of proper fork operation. That would have aligned the forks properly and prevented the binding you discovered.

@thepangolin5022
@thepangolin5022 4 жыл бұрын
Don't bother "torquing" an oil filter ...just do it up do it's very hand tight...that'll be enough....torque wrenches are great if you know how to use em...if not, don't bother. Only things on a bike that need a torque wrench are big end bolts and head nuts.

Hello, Sir! I am out of Kansas City. Love your videos! I have always ridden cruisers (currently Vulcan 1600 Classic and a Voyager). Been studying the FJR the last several months. Contemplating the new experience. Would love to meet up with you sometime. I ride down to Arkansas often (my favorite weekend getaway). Maybe we can share some breeze when the weather gets nice again. Does that sound like something you would be interested in? Would love to pick your brain a little, and a fella could always use a good riding buddy. I have seen the entire continental U.S. on my bike (minus North Dakota and New Mexico) and much of Canada including Nova Scotia, logging around 150,000 miles total. It seems to me that you share a similar passion for riding and appreciating this beautiful earth. Let me know if I can contact you sometime and how. -Heath

@@ozarksbackroads5484 That is awesome! So you went from a Vulcan 1600 to an FJR? Amazing! That is what I have been going back and forth on for months! I have 90,000+ miles on my 1600 and she still goes strong and looks amazing. Would still take it anywhere though she does burn a little oil more than she did back in the day. I know all about the machine and have taken good care of her since the day I brought her home brand-new. Now I am really interested to know your story and how you settled on the FJR and how you compare your experiences on the road with the FJR vs. the classic. Thanks so much for responding and I really hope we can meet up someday. Maybe we run down to War Eagle Mill in Arkansas if you know what I am talking about. Nice little day trip.

Nice video, but being the bike is under warranty, I'd suggest a trip to the dealer rather than disassembling when you find an issue. Should there be wear on the forks at a later time, they would be obliged to replace them under warranty, regardless.

that washer belongs in the bin! it's part of the crate as the front wheel is not in the bike.

Spend more time tinkering than riding. Why? Wonder if he does the same with a new vacuum cleaner?? A day or two to let oil drain! ... what? That reminds me. ....i must check the calibration on my adjustable spanners. Best book a week off work. ...toodles!
