I normally never leave comments but since I tried to follow this video with no luck. I have to say if you aren't experienced with this sort of thing, I highly don't recommend attempting what is done in this video without other material to follow. Some things that are done are just not included in the video. I'll just use an external keyboard. I still appreciate the effort put in this video.

Thank you, just replaced my keyboard on my Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming laptop. I had intermittent arrow key and one of my numbers stopped working. I saw your video and it looked like there was no user fixable parts on the underside of the keyboard so I replaced the whole thing. The battery connector and battery screws were most awkward bit. :)

I watched this video many times in order to help me with my disassembly. Thank you. But I would like to suggest that in the future, you should take the audio from the left or right and make it mono, because this video only plays in my right ear which was very annoying and uncomfortable.

Question does this model have a backlit keyboard? I’m trying to figure out if the one I have is broken. Is there a way to test the laptop to see if the backlight function is working or not beside just replacing the keyboard?

Yes! the keyboard is riveted on with plastic rivets. it is somewhat time consuming but you can pop off each individual rivet on the old keyboard, apply the new keyboard, and then remelt the heads of the rivets onto the back of the keyboard with a soldering iron. i used some 3d-printer filament for areas where the original rivet did not have enough plastic remaining.

@@wc8189 I do this regularly. We use a hot glue gun, and a flat piece of metal dipped in IPA alcohol each time to press the glue drops into place and flatten them out. The alcohol prevents the metal from sticking to the glue.

Good video. I had to teardown mine to re-paste the cpu and gpu. Now, I just need to replace the battery. Dell got some garbage batteries (Forbidden Capri Sun?!). And UGH - Toshiba drive in this. I worked with Dell AIO (Optiplex 3030) at work and never seen so many Toshiba 2.5 500GB drives fail. We ended up buying a lot of 240/256GB SSD drives to replace them.

Revised instructions: Remove the five Torx screws that hold down the battery. Carefully remove the battery and note that you should replace the battery if it is damaged. 2016 vintage batteries are at end of life (EOL) now. Mine expanded in my laptop, bursting out of its seams, putting pressure on the chassis, and luckily it didn't catch on fire. Next unscrew the hard drive. There are four screws captured by rubber anti-vibration pads. Try not to damage the pads and reinstall the same way. Now remove four flat screws that hold on the plastic grille. There are four clips. You can remove the grille without breaking any clips if you're gentle. Next remove one flat screw just to the left of the trackpad. Now you will need to remove somewhere around 20 2.5x5 screws and 2 2.5x8 screws. The video doesn't mention the sheer number of screws. At least they're all labeled. The keyboard should come off easily if you have removed all of the screws. If the clips seem to be holding on too tightly you probably missed some screws. After I found all of the screws not mentioned in the video, I only broke one clip off of the old keyboard, and nothing on the chassis. Once you have the keyboard off, follow the steps in the video. Total time is about 90 minutes. I recommend that when re-installing the screws you turn them backwards until you hear a click. This insures that the screws are threading in correctly. No need to overtighten. You are not fixing a car. This is a delicate piece of electronics. Snug but never use a lot of strength.

Every video I've watched the jump cut removing the keyboard panel when they can't pull it off straight away...what's causing the jam? I've removed every screw and trying to remove the panel and there's something in the middle holding it. But no one shows how they solve that?

Thanks for your video. I purchased this laptop back in March 2017 and the keyboard has been adding extra letters for most of the time that I've owned it. I was very disappointed to find out that you have to tear the laptop completely apart to replace the keyboard. I guess that's why it was only around $1,000 new. I've had the replacement part (minus the trackpad) for quite a few years and I'm finally going to go forward with the repair as you document it and remove all 20+ screws. Dell did a bad job with this keyboard: The electronics are poor and they made it difficult to replace. Other than that the laptop continues to work fine. No issues besides the keyboard.

Where is the plastic latch at 2:40? I ended up breaking one of the plastic holdings for one of the screws trying to remove the part.

If I only have the keyboard and not a whole face with trackpack palm rest etc. how would remove the rivets, And then replace them? From the comments I know I’m not the only person wondering, it would have been cool if the audio wasn’t only in my right earbud, and if there was a link or description of the screwdriver used to take out the battery too.

Usually the screen has a specific connection and the motherboard is suited to its particular power delivery. I wouldn''t recommend trying it

I tried to replace my keyboard but after removing all the screws that's keeping the whole pad in-place I still couldn't lift the thing because the battery's screws were also needed to be remove and i don't have a screwdriver for it 🤦🤦
