Man this brings me back. My first "gaming" rig was a Dell Inspiron 530 with the E7200 (I think.. C2D @ 2.53 ghz anyway) 4GB ram and a 9800 GT video card. Served me very well back in the late '00s into the early 2010s. Decided recently to build what I dreamed of owning back then. I picked up a EVGA 680i SLI board, C2Q QX6850 and 4GB Ram.. waiting on a pair of 8800GTX cards for SLI and we're ready to crank on some old games. Subbed.. keep up the good work!

@DLMtechgarage3 жыл бұрын
depends, if the motherboard for the PC has 3 or 4 pin fan headers you don't need them. If they have that funky 5 pin header then you have to get the adaptor yourself as the fan companies don't sell that adaptor with them.

I'm looking into a full tower case to swap in a Dell Optiplex 9020MT, & since I have a replacement PSU with long cables, reaching the power button seems to be the only issue, which a Dell forum poster mentioned in this pasted reply: "Just a side note in case you do not already know, 9020 power switch uses Dell stereotypical 5 pin header similar to that in 9010 or 990. Pinout is in public domain. You would need to wire new case power button to it." So what would you suggest I do as a solution if I get a full tower case, would a separate Harbin adapter for the said Optiplex power button work?
@DLMtechgarage3 жыл бұрын
I would just add more wire to the power button and butt connect the wire or solder it in. You can get wire on amazon or any store, use electric tap, wire loom, heatshrink or whatever you prefer to clean it up. That would be the easies way in my opinion for the distance.

@DLMtechgarage2 жыл бұрын
typically hdd are cheaper and you can get more storage for cheap... SSD tend to cost more for less storage. the preferred is putting it on the SSD but when I do these budget builds I only use a 120gb SSD which fill up quickly. Since SSD prices are more reasonable compared to when I started, I typically get a 512gb for the builds and that seems to hold over well!

Long story here, hopefully you can point me in the right direction as I might be overthinking stuff. I don't actually want to switch the motherboard out, I just want to upgrade the PSU; given my Dell Vostro 5890 which is pretty much like the Dell XPS 8940 and Inspiron 3880 (as proprietary and generic crap as it gets, they all even look the same), came with a Small Form Factor 2-rail 12V 18A 460W PSU. I managed to get an RTX 3060 Ti last week, and even though my PSU should have around 212W per rail according to my friend, that's barely squeaking by since my 3060 Ti model should produce around 200W. Based on what I'm seeing, my Dell Vostro's 5-pin power switch is also proprietary to Dell's PSU cable connections correct? Or does it get its power from the motherboard? I would like to get one of those 650W SFX small PSU to replace the stock SFF 460W Dell one, but if the Dell PSU has a cable connection for the 5-pin Dell power switch, then I wouldn't be able to turn my PC on with the Dell case's power switch anymore correct? Great tutorial by the way.
@DLMtechgarage2 жыл бұрын
From my limited knowledge of those dells, the only thing I recalled need was the psu adaptor but looking at the board things seem different. Not sure and would have to do alot more research
@mecha_korta27612 жыл бұрын
@@DLMtechgarage Oh well. I guess I'll undervolt my 3060 Ti for now. Any wattage peak will shutdown my PC for sure if I don't. I think that Dell 5-pin adaptor did the job for you; you pretty much replaced the stock Dell switch with the new case's power switch. I think I would have to get that 5-pin adaptor, and then get one of those external power on/off switches instead of the whole PC case. I hope undervolting works, that way I won't have to do extra unnecessary PSU changes.

Not a particular fan (pun) of a downdraft HSF. The 9020 case I have at work has a ARCTIC Freezer 7 Pro cooling a i7-4790 with 32gb RAM. not sure, never messed with one, I would reach out to the company harbin repair and asked their opinion. they specialize in this and probably could provide some insight.

Hey would you be able to put link for the case you used please?
Nice video, very helpful, I'm in the process of a case swap myself and I have several questions : The semi-modular PSU I'm using come with 2 non modular cables : 24pin (the big one designed for the mobo) and a smaller one 2x4pin. Is it best to connect the mobo to the PSU via the 24to8pin adapter, or directly use the non-modular 2x4pin it also come with ? The case i'm using (pure base 500DX)come with 3 non-rgb fan, what's the best way to connect them ? I have several 5to4pin adapters but only one system fan socket + the CPU fan. Should I use a Sata to 4pin ? or some splitters ? Anyway thanks a lot for this guide it's very helpful ! Cheers

use the adaptor for the psu and as far as the fans, def get a splitter or hub

Been preparing to transfer my T3600, but 'testing' a bit. My obstacle to proceeding has been the case fans. Checked the pins, used converter, using fans in spec with the Delco fans and still my replacements burn out. Annoying (expensive!). Then the PSU is nonstandard as well; not to mention the 2011 is slightly tweaked as well.

@@balkardhindsa Hello Balkar, no need to apologize, that's what the community is here for. As far as the front panel goes, I ended up swapping everything over to an NZXT A340 case instead as I already had the case. The only problem is it will always prompt me to press F1 from boot up every time which I don't mind as I did not use the front panel io. Other people have plugged it in to avoid it every time they boot but I wanted it to be a clean build and it's not the worst to press F1 every time I boot up. If you would like me to take video of my swap I would be happy to do so including all hardware, NvMe SSD, Water cooling, routing etc, just let me know👍.
